Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi Steph,

I had a similar problem with a boiled egg the other night. I didn't mash it up first, I thought that chewing it well would be enough. I was wrong! I think I ate it too quickly, and well, it stayed down but I was pretty uncomfortable!

I have lost nearly 10kgs since the week before the op, so thats four weeks. I guess thats not too bad. My dietician and surgeon were both happy with my loss and how I am going. I get a fill next Thursday, and not soon enough! I am starting to get hungry during the day. I usually make it through ok, but I think I am eating too much at dinner time. Once I get the fill, hopefully I won't be able to fit that much in!

Good to hear that you are going well. I am looking forward to getting on to normal foods! When are you getting a fill?

Basher.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi Basher,
I've started on mushies too and been doing okay. The other night I made chicken schnitzels with veg and I put a small peice of chicken (minus the crumbs) thru the blender with gravy and had the mashed vegies and it was unreal. I actually can't remember a better meal in my life LOL.
But I am now back to work and not feeling at all hungry and have to force myself to have a couple of meals a day but today I was so tired and nearly falling asleep at my desk that I decided to pick up tea on way home and bought a piece of fish and chips. I ate half piece of fish and 3 chips. Big mistake!! They ended up getting stuck and only now am I feeling like I may be safe to have a drink.
You are doing really well with the food. I'm pleased for you.
So far I have lost 10kg since 3rd July.

steph.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I just thought I would post and let everyone know how I am going on mushies. I am enjoying after a week! I am having porridge for breakfast, mashed eggs with a bit of mayo or salmon & mayo for lunch and mashed vegies for dinner. I see the dietician again tomorrow, and my surgeon, so hopefully I can have a fill as I am getting quite hungry eating only half a cup at each meal! I have only lost 1.5kg this week, but I knew the loss would slow down once I started eating a bit normally again.

Steph - I would love to hear how you are going!

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi everyone,
I have a really tasty recipe that can be vitamised
500gm diced chicken breast coated in flour
1 large jar of v8 vegetable juice
1pkt of french onion soup
1 onion (diced)
1 capsicum (diced)
half teaspoon of sugar
cook in a caserole dish in the oven for 2hrs
very tasty and the meat is tender because you slow cook it. I like to have it with mashed potato but you can have it with pasta. Enjoy KBenfell

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I have just tried the most tasty recipe ever, I had a small amount of mexican refried beans which are very mushy with a dollop of sour cream, hot salsa, guacamole and spicy capsicum dip.

I heated the refried beans with a small amount of cheese on top in the microwave and added the sour cream, salsa, guacamole and spicy capsicum dip.

It tastes AMAZING!

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi,
Thinking about mushie food got me through the optifast pre op. I played mind games with myself. If I craved something, I imagined it in the blender. McDonalds is not appealing because you would need to water it down - (my sister said just to add your coke)it turns you off so the opti works. I am day 7 post op and still on opti for another week. The mushie game is still working for me, and next tuesday, I can have mushies..yippee
Good luck,
Karen

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi Steph,

The new job is pretty good thanks! Going well so far.

I am going onto mushies on Thursday too, and not soon enough! I am thinking that I will stick to protein mainly, mashed eggs with some mayo and finely chopped lettuce, tinned salmon with onion and mayo, that sort of thing. I also live on my vegie soup, I used to eat it all the time before being banded, so it is great that I can still eat it. I have it for lunch every day and it is so healthy.

I am down 8 kilos since being banded. How are you going?

Hi Basher,

How is the new job going. What do you take for you lunch while on the mushies stage? I am going back to work next week and am wondering what I'll do although I may just stick with protein shakes for my lunch until I get used to mushies which I am due to start on Thursday.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Yes its normal...and honestly food choices on the mushie stage are easier than the liquid because you just mush up what ever everyone else is eating with some extra gravy or milk or something... you will be fine I promise.

And your allowed things like cruskits if your out etc cos the go to gel in your mouth.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Is it normal to be thinking about they type of mushie food you will be able to eat before you have the op??

I think I will be ok with the liquid side for 2 weeks as I will be recovering at my daughters for a few days and she had the op a few years ago

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
actually any of the 'chicken tonight' type sauces would be good to wizz that chicken in.

and also fish with white sauce or salsa.... sounds yucky with the salsa but it isnt.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I use one egg and add cheese so it melts through.. its yum.

Try using thigh fillets instead of breast they arnt as dry and wizzing them with the gravy is a great idea...or some curry powder and yogurt

If you eat cottage cheese its good for protein in the mushy stage too... I put pickles through mine cos Im sick!

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
hi lizard,

i generally found i could only eat one large egg, however everyone is different i would say start with one you can always make more (or make more and only dish up a small amount and pop the rest in the fridge for tomorrow)
as for the chicken breast pieces how about wizzing tehm up with the gravy with a stick blender then you arn't breaking teh rules but getting teh protein.

just some ideas:)

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
How many eggs do you all use to make scrambled eggs?

I'm thinking of putting some BBQ chicken breast pieces with some potato and gravy, would this be OK? My body is SCREAMING at me for protein!

Thanks for that Unzipping! I didn't even think of salmon and mayo, and that sort of thing. I will probably live on that!

I guess sardines would be ok too, with some mashed tomatoes or something.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I stick to mostly protein so mashed up eggs with a little milk or mayo and add some curry sometimes.

I mash salmon with egg and finely chopped onion and egg and mayo.

Yogurt

cottage cheese.

Chicken and cauli flower and a little gravy with the wand blender put through it

Basically anything can become a mushy if you own a wand blender.. Having protein instead of a lot of carbs will get you through the mushy stage with reduced hunger.

Breaky can be eggs mashed or porridge or weetbix.. Remember when you start they need to be really runny almost a liquid. So there is a lot of gravy or milk added and then mashed or blended.
