i was wondering if tofu is considered mushies?
I honestly can't bring myself to eat blended tofu because they're already so mushy? And yet i LOVE tofu, all kinds of them.
They practically mush in your mouth or is just that me trying to fool myself? LOL the line gets blurred sometimes.
Well if i am allowed to eat tofu... a good way to eat it that i found is to steam it.
Put it on a plate, dress with sesame oil, fish oil and some *** anese shoyu sauce. Then i ate it with a soft boiled egg.
It sounded like a lot of food, but its not big in portion. The flavour on the other hand is yummy.
Mmmmmm why do they censored ja pan? |

I also ate cottage cheese (I like the flavoured gerkhin one!) - it never got stuck and I could have a tub of it spread over the whole day.
Soft boiled or poached eggs are good for breakfast if breakfast is able to be made to your liking/preference.
A small can of tuna or salmon with light mayo mixed into it. Smoked salmon if you like that too. Soups if you're not too sick of them yet!
Let me keep thinking....

| Travelling Mushies? I am getting banded tomorrow and in 3 weeks time I am in NZ for a quick 5 day trip. I was planning on taking my optifast stuff and shaker but as I will be travelling - any recommendations on other foods? I was thinking avocados mashed, or banana mashed etc any other thoughts? |

Hi Everyone,
Just had a rather yummy mushie meal and thought I'd share it!
From Woolies/Coles I bought a 4 pack of these vegetarian chick pea patties (sold in the cold food section with all the soy cheese and vego 'meats'). Warmed it up in the microvawe, drizzles on sweet chilli sauce, mashed soft avocado, extra light sour cream. Lightly mush it up with a fork - delicious! And a good hit of protein to keep the hunger pains at bay!!

Ness,
Maybe towards the end of the mushies stage. Really you shouldn't though. Maybe ask one of your team.

Thanks Mack, So better cut out the yoghurt. Any suggestions on best to drink? Should I just stick with protein shake and stock? Guess I'm in the wrong Forum, should be Straw. Thanks to Mack and pyrenna. I should have started asking questions here as soon as I got home.
Cheers

At this early stage you should be on the straw diet Tyreena. If you can't sip it through a thin straw then you can't have it.
The hospital and the surgeon should have given you post operative instructions.
This is a great place to ask becasue you are talking to people with real life experince especially Pyretta who is a legend!
Good luck, Mack |

Thanks Pyretta,
It has calmed down somewhat. I found a recipe book on the internet and have purchased it but it wont come thru for a few days. The problem has eased as you said. I have been so determine to do the right thing. Dietician and GP said I could puree some veges and beans and chicken and make sure it is very thin, that way I would be getting nutrition. Anyhow feeling better now though a bit weak and unsure of what to eat.
So we shouldn't puree anything at moment and just drink clear stock? I've bought some V8 tomato juice and prune juice, made some stock and have xantrax in morning. I'm also going to have borocca - but leave it for a few hours to get rid of bubbles. Is plain low fat yoghurt OK?
Thanks again for your reply, really appreciate it.

tyseena,
At this stage I would think you should still be on runny liquids. If you were banded less than a week ago most surgeons have people on liquids for 2 weeks before allowing them to move to mushies. The tightness and restriction you are feeling means you are probably putting a strain on you band too early into the journey. It will be from the swelling and will dissipate with time.

Hi, Just needing some advice. I was banded last friday. All went well, woke with virtually no pain and was able to walk around soon after. Left hospital feeling great, but seemed to have conflicting info re what I should eat. I kept up with clear soups, optifast on Sat and Sunday, pureed some vege and chicken on Monday and had a little yoghurt plain. On Monday night I started to feel a tightness in my chest, burning, lots of burping. Lasted all next day and I could eat little, kept sipping water. Also have had no bowel movements since last Friday before surgery. Have had some prune juice and tomato v8. I am unsure what I'm supposed to be having, been conflicting info. But the way I feel now is that I'll never need a fill because I am bloated and couldn't fit anyting in. I burp continuously. Has anyone had these symptoms. I had a hiatus hernia repair at the time of banding.
Love to hear from someone out there. I have kept this a secret so don't have anyong to talk to about it.
THanks
Tyseena xx |

Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering whether anyone knew whether I could freeze potato bake? I am starting mushies on Friday and hubby has missed potato bake so it's first up on the list (with some protein too! LOL). Can anyone tell me whether it's freezable or should I just do a tiny portion (enough for hubby and me?).
Thanks everyone - I'm an okay cook but clueless when it comes to what freezes sucessfully or not.

That's great Cath - thanks for the tip about the slow-cooker.
I've already cleared a space on my bench for my slow-cooker to sit as I have a feeling I am going to be using it almost everyday whilst on mushies and probably alot more in general now than in pre-band life.
I've sorted warned my hubby that our cuisine is going to have alot more casseroles etc being done in the slow- cooker but he's fine with that (for now!).
My thinking is if I'm the one shopping and cooking the meal it's darn well gonna be something I can get down my banded gullet!!!

| Your slow cooker is great for cooking suitable food. Adapt the risotto by putting all ingredients except the rice and cream in the slow cooker and simmer on low for 4-5 hours. Don't be alarmed by the amount of fluid. Just add the rice and cook of 45 minutes. Cream goes in just before serving. |
