Hi Narelle
I think he meant fibrous food, eg. dry chicken, beef, celery, lettuce. The stomach seems to have trouble breaking down the fibres. Hope this helps. |

phew
yes that was my sigh of relief. I have defiantly been a little panicky reading this forums and now actually have made myself have a sore stomach. Ahh but i am relieved its good to have people to ask questions about the band. I feel much better.

Jb,
You sound like you are healing fine and don't get too hung up on the amounts. i wasn't actually given amounts to follow in the early stages. My dietitian told me to just have small amounts until i was comfortable.

hi all
am loving this section!
Have had my band for just on two weeks and on mushies. Am a lil frightened that I have damaged my band as I haven't followed the correct serving amount to a T. I have seen one of my friends go through a slipped band and am positively frightened of this happening to me. Is there anyway you know if the band has slipped? I haven't vomited or anything like that.. fingers crossed I haven't done any damage..and will start to accurately measure my food.
oh and question, if you arent in any pain (except near the port) and not vomiting does that mean you are healing well?
cheers

You wont have damaged your band but its just best not to tempt fate is all. We have all done the chew to mush thing on occasion at this stage but its best to try do each stage straight as its meant to.
Dont stress you will be fine |

Hi lqrichmondtigers,
I am on mushies and feel same as you I resrict myself to 1cup at a time, still hungry after. Today went to a friends who doesnt know about op. all she had was homemade sausage rolls so I chewed the life out of them but I managed to eat 4 of them and feeling very full for 1st time in ages ( I thought 4 would have been eq to 1 cup )
Hope this helps Kyro |

| I'm hearing ya about feeling the same as you did before the op!! I emailed my dietitian and she said that it is normal as there is no restriction but to still stay on the mushies and only eat the perscribed amounts a day (which is about 3 cups worth!!) other wise the bottom portion of your stomach gets full and may move your band which in turn may mean another surgery. I'm seeing my dietitian on friday and hopefully she says that I can go onto soft foods!! |

yes it is perfectly normal, it means that you have mended very well. True restriction can take a few months in some cases which equates to about 3 or 4 fills.
Until then you will have to use a little will power sadly.
I do suggest eating mushy food though, from my experience it is too easy for that one little thing to slip through and do damage. Its for such a short length of time its best to do all the stages by the book. |

| Hi everyone on Mushies... I have a quick question... does anyone else feel exactly like they did before they had the op? i'm doing OK and not that hungry, but that's because I'm eating food (but chewing until it's mush). Is this becuase my band is wide open and I haven't had a fill yet? I have the same appetite as before I went in and feel exactly the same. |

Here is a receipe that I have lived on during the mushies phase.
Special Omlette
1 egg
bit of milk
3 slices of tomato diced
handful of diced ham
bit if grated cheese to taste
table spoon of parsley
whisk then you can cook it as an omlette or as scrambled eggs
bon apetite |

| Goodbye to my 'mushie' pals. I went to the dietician today and can start 'real' food. Yeh. To those are suffering from bland. Don't forget hommus. It is soft and a good source of protein to add to your meals. I also blended some marinated fetta into my cottage cheese. Once again good protein and NICE!! Good luck all.... |

wow everyone seems to be eating much more 'thicker' food than me. i am having smooth lumpless mush like mashed potato and which could be given to a 6 month old baby. would love love love to have more but there is NOTHING more important for me than lookin after my band omg i would die if i had a slipped band just cos i ate something i shouldn't have.
is everyone following the rules given to them by their surgeon?? |

Hi all
Didnt know where else to post this, was wondering if anyone else has had pain where the port is located. Mine is just under my left ribs and a little to the right. I keep getting these horrible pains on the side, almost feels like the port i bumping my ribs when I sit or move. Im 2 weeks post op (tomorrow) and I thought this pain wouldve slowly started to settle by now.
Anyways, this is the wrong place to post this but didnt know where else.
Thanks all

Thought I would share....last night I was a little lazy & I bought myself one of those fish in sauce packs from the freezer section of Woolies, I think it was in a parsley sauce anyhow I cooked it up and mashed it up with a fork, I couldnt get through it all but it was a pleasant mushie friendly meal. Nice with the sauce and no bones.
Cheers

Greebs,
it is quite common to put on weight during mushies as a lot of mushie food is calorie dense.
Just try and make good food choices until you get restriction, which may be after your first fill but also may take a few fills.
hang in there, this is for the long term so some short term "set backs" will soon fade into distant memories.

| This is really such a learning phase isn't it. Last night went to a 21st and thought that it would be okay to eat a little of the curried chicken casserole. It was the first time I had eaten any rice - but I did mix it in. Two mouthfuls then very uncomfortable. I thought that I had chewed it enough, but I guess no. Too gluggy I guess. Have another 21st tonight - will be more careful. |

charvandben - I actually had a similar experience except I was 2 weeks post band, on Monday I went back to work and for the first time since the op I was hungry. Now I have these wierd instances of hunger even when I know I am full, I think my mind is playing tricks on me and this only started happening when I went onto mushies. I dont understand it, I am making sure I have the right balance of protein, veg, carbs, etc.
Cheers

Hi all
OMG I had half a small piece of steak for dinner tonight. I chewed chewed and chewed. It was so tender and yummy. Ive been craving something with a bit of flavour and the steak was perfect. I probably shouldn't have had it as Im only 2 weeks post op but was told to start mushies earlier.
Hows everyone else handling mushies? has anyone felt hungry on them? I bought a magic bullet type mixer/blender thingy today, cant wait to use it.
Cheers
