It is quite salty black liquid. Served mainly with J a p anese food. I think it is made from bean curd. Since when has j a p an ese been a rude word?

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Could someone please tell me what miso soup is? What does it taste like? I keep reading it mentioned and it's on the list of allowable liquids pre-op and post-op, but I have no idea what it is. Thanks in advance.

Hi P ixie, when I was craving something savoury I found a cup of miso soup really hit the spot. I bought some powder from the asian section in coles and you just mix it in hot water.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
P ixie, Sorry about the toasted sandwich image!! I decorated a gingerbread house with my kids tonight!! Glutton for punishment or is that just glutton!! No I was pretty good I tried a couple of smarties and that took away any craving. But I figure lapband is about eating normally that means a LITTLE bit of everything not a lot like we're used to. It's all about reducing portion size. But it well get easier. Just concentrate on healing and don't worry about the food thing.
What about starting a new hobby? Do you have any good books? sewing? or gan1se photos? Mmmm what else could you do that isn't strenuous?? How long are you housebound? is even a walk around the backyard out of the question? You poor thing! So whats happening on days of Our Lives? is it still on TV?

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi Debra,
Thanks for your message. I think that is half my problem - I am now suffering a severe case of 'cabin fever' - I'm so bored!!! I have been confined to my house for nearly three weeks now. I can't drive or hardly do anything apart from lie on the couch and watch TV because I had a full open operation. Then because I am bored - I want to eat. I am so terrified that I will stretch my pouch or do something silly! I have now logged onto calorie king and am keeping within (well below) my 'calorie allowance' so my weight should still come off. Can't wait to get busy so my mind won't wander to food. I might even try to drive tomorrow!!! I have to get out of this house!
Have a great weekend - relax and smile!
Love,
P1xie xo
PS - God I have been dreaming about a toasted cheese sandwich!!!

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi Pi xie, I know how you feel, Today I ws home with the kids. They were upstairs playing with their friends. So i sat and watched tv. Then I started to want food. I made them toasted sangas. There was a left over one just sitting there all golden brown and cheesy.. So I nibbled a corner and it went down ok. So I kept on nibbling. so 2 triangles later and no ill effects for someone who is supposed to be on liquids for another week!!! I'm probably stretching my pouch, I know but it makes me less scared about moving on to real food. Tonight I made roast pork & veges..I blended mine with gravy ,mashed pumpkin, blended potato and broccoli. I ate it after the kids though because I didn't want to gross out my nieces who were over for dinner. It was yum, pork abit salty. I k now its a slow long journey so don't berate yourself for those slips. when you have fill you can forgwt those corn chips. I'm not due until 15th Jan for my first. Should be interesting my change my appt for a day when don't have to go to work next day.

Thanks DD - I know you are right. I think I was just starting to be in panic mode. I think I started eating out of boredom. I had a full open op so I'm house bound and bored out of my brains. I seem to have my act together again. All the very best! Love, P1xie xo

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi P1xie,

You say "Hopefully I'll behave myself tomorrow" like you have no control over that. Come on, you know you do. Think about the resolve you must have felt when you first made the decision to get banded. Think about the doctor's reaction if he/she were reading this forum. You're stronger than you give yourself credit for. When I feel like you're feeling, I make a list of all the healthy things I like to eat. Once you start you might there are more options out there than you first thought. Keep those things around you.

I know you can do it. Do you?

Love dd

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi guys, I'm wondering if you can help me - I'm struggling with the mushies stage - my op was only two weeks ago, officially I should have only just started mushies but I have kind of noticed that I can bascially tolerate most things. I'm bored so I am starting to get head hunger. I am starting to get worried because I actually managed to get through a 200g packet of corn chips, through out the course of today. I seem to be craving savoury food where I'm usually a real sweet tooth. The only thing that really stops me from eating, is my scar stretching (I had a full open operation). I don't seem to be having any problems with things going through the band - I'm naughty, I've tried jelly lollies, wine, corn chips and cake. I know they say the initial four weeks is a time to let the band settle and not to concentrate on losing weight, however, I don't want to go back to my bad habits but at this time of the year, with all the goodies around, it is proving to be a bit difficult. Any advice? Hopefully, I will behave myself tomorrow! I think I will have to relog on to calorie king and start counting my calories. Is there anyone else struggling and shoving more food in then they should?
Love,
P1xie xo

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi mylastresort_2lose, I was banded on the same day as you. i was advised 2 weeks after banding that i can go onto eating mushy foods but no bread, (have had some no more than half a slice a few times, but only toasted as per dietician confirmation haven't had any probs so far) & anything chewable to chew chew chew. hopefully my answer is satifying. Take care.

Hi Chezz,
Don't put yourself through it just yet, it's really hard watching other people eat and drink when you can't. Kara

Chezza,

It this time of year it's fairly normal as the doctors as sooo busy with people getting fills in/out before Christmas.

It is good to give your body some time to adjust to the band so don't be in any hurry, it's not a race to shed the kilos. it's now a lifestyle.

I was banded on the 12th Nov and have also been told by my support to start on more 'normal' food. I am nervous about this though, is it too soon? Today I did have a piece of toast with spagetti. All went down okay but should I be eating this yet?

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi
I was banded on the 5th of Nov. I have started eating normal foods. I have had no probs with anything. I have had toast, dry biscuits etc and all good. I havent tried red meat yet. Scared it might not go down to good. I am finding the band good, the only hard thing to get used to is not drinking after eating.
My fill is on the 16th Dec.
How is the weight loss goin? I gave lost 7kg since coming home.

San,

Moving up to 1 cup of food should be okay but remember to take your time eating and chew everything!

If increasing the amount concerns you then try having four meals a day instead of 3.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi Everyone,
Yes it seems that each doctor has their own set of rules. I was banded on the 12th Nov and my support told me I can now start on soft foods. I have only been on mushies for a little over a week, today being day 17.

I am a little nervous about moving onto the next phase as I read that a lot of other doctors recommend a longer period on mushies. My support told me that I should be now moving onto more 'normal' food. A couple of days ago I ate a little piece of chicken and rice, all went down okay. After I ate that I was worried I had done the wrong thing and phone my support. She said if it went down okay not to worry, if I wasn't sick then it was okay.
I have read so much and am now totally confused, I just don't want to do the wrong thing. I am starting to feel a little hungry and find 1/2 cup no longer satisfies me. My first fill is on the 12th Dec.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I have been on Mushins for almost a weel.

Brekkie is usally a weet bix or up and go. For lunch I made a macaroni beef thing from teh Annette Syms cook book and pureed it and added a little bif of light cheese for extra protein.

Dinners usually consist of pureed chicken and vegies and for a snack it is just a small tub of yoghurt or custard. So far it is keepign the hunger at bay and since my first fill isn't till January..I am hoping it stays that way for a while :)

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Thanks everyone for your comments/advice.
I've been having: breakfast: up & go, or an opti, or poached eggs, or weetbix. Mid morning: Small puree fruit containers or yoghurt. Lunch: Mashed potato & tuna or baked beans mashed or soup. Afternoon tea: same as mid morning, maybe a latte. Dinner: Fish mostly, as I find it goes down better, and puree veges. Yoghurt or icecream later sometimes.

Would love to try a cruskit with marmite, but I'm frightened too!
I think I start soft food next week, that would of been 2 weeks on mushies. As I'm not having a fill till the 10th December. It's very scary at first!

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi all, I'm on my 2nd week of mushies also, but have been really enjoying it! I know, sad isn't it? I made up a huge pot of veges, and mashed them, put them in little containers and in the freezer, then i've made up a quite thin tuna mornay, and have put it on the veg like a sauce... mmmm. I also made a sheperd's pie, just mince in gravy with the mash on top, that one was a winner! scrambled eggs, stewed fruit and custard, porridge, lentil and vege soup (lentils make it really thick and creamy). I was told that cruskits were good to eat in the mushies stage, as they melt in your mouth, but i've been a bit scared to try that yet. Hope that gave you some more ideas.
Cheers,
Renae
