Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
i did 4 weeks soups n then 4 weeks mushies too its not that bad and you can blitz anything tasty once you start the mushies you will feel better

you can blitz all vegies with gravy or a nice sauce
most casseroles will be fine just add extra gravy if needed
it may not look too great but it will taste just fine

hang in there it gets better

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Im going crazy I dont know what to do. I just got the lapband surgery done on December 30th, and Im still on the all liquid diet. The sight of jello, soup, and popsicles is beginning to absolutely disgust me. I can't wait to get to my puree food diet, which should start on Thursday. I've been reading everyones posts, and my diet has me on a puree diet for 4 weeks, which means I'll be going 6 weeks total without solid food, it sounds like hell. Did anyone else go through this? Does anyone have any advice on puree food ideas I can have?

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Judes,

The band doesn't stretch but the pouch above the band can. As for knowing if it has stretched I have never heard of anyone knowing. If the band has slipped is another one of those things, Some people have pain when they have slipped, others can eat more, but some have no idea at all.

I hope that helps answer your question.

Hello again. Thanks for the responses everyone. Again though, just wondering if anyone can tell me how you can tell if the band has slipped or stretched... if it's possible to tell?

Make sure you have protein as it sits with you longer. You might have to eat more often rather than more at a sitting.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Serina - Aaarrgghh I feel exactly the same! I can pretty much eat whatever I want and as much as I want, exactly the same as pre-op... nothing has changed with me. I'm ultra worried about stretching it or shifting it too. Can anyone tell me how you can tell if that's happened? I swear, I'm counting down the days till I get a fill! I don't want to be the same fatty I always was!!

THANKS, I OFTEN GET WORRIED THAT I AM EATING TOO MUCH AND I AM GOING TO STRETCH IT OR THE BAND WILL SLIP. I AM A BIT OF A PARANOID PERSON. SO STRANGE THOUGH I ATE MY LUNCH AND HOUR AND A HALF AGO (A LITTLE OVER HALF A CUP OF BAKED BEANS) AND I AM THINKING ABOUT MAKING A CUP OF SOUP - SOOO HUNGRY

Serina,

Perfectly normal. It means you have healed and are ready to start with your banding journey. Make sure you have regular fills until you get the restriction you need.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hey everyone i was banded 5 weeks and 1 day ago. I am due for my first fill in exactly 1 week but for the last 3 day i have been absolutly starving. Every hour or so i am hungry again. I am having higher protein foods but still only my small portions. Is this a normal thing to happen before your first fill?

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Tania...for the most part many bandits dont lose very much until they get some restriction and this can take some time

the only way will be to watch what you eat as in count calorie, weight watcher style or whatever works best for you

It is also perfectly normal to start to feel hungry again so dont stress too much

this is a long journey and you will get there

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi I started on the mushies stage 2 days before xmas, since then I havent lost any weight. It has just stayed the same. Very disheartening. I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen to them.
I have also found that I am getting very hungry as well. Maybe I am not having enough protein. Yesterday I had spag bolognaisse for lunch and felt the most satisfied i have felt for about a week.

Sorry guys i am just having a grizzle I suppose, I am just feeling a bit depressed about it at the moment, I know this band is the best thing I can have but just wish the weight would move a bit quicker. I am ringing my doctor tomorrow to see if I can get my first fill in the next weeek or so rather that wait til the end of January.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I finished my mushie stage yesterday and had bangers and mash with gravy for dinner will no ill effects at all.

This morning I had a piece of multigrain toast with vegemite and no problems.

I'm so releived to be able to have modest servings of "normal" food. I hope this can continue after my first fill in January.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Congratulations Linda on your NSV. It's those little things, like you said, squeezing between the gaps between the chairs, that are the best reward, Not just the numbers on the scales.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
People are so busy thinking about themselves that they honestly don't notice what or how much you are eating. I had a set menu christmas function last night. My roast dinner was over half left and the lady next to me just said "so you are not a big eater then". I just smiled and said no I want some room for plum pudding. I could squeeze thru small gaps between chairs. There is no way I could have 2 years ago.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I went out for dinner last night..a date with my husband..dinner and a movie. We went to a french restaurant. I had some terrine to start: lots of crumbly meat (no bread). Then had rabbit stew with white beans (essentially fancy baked beans) Then shared creme brulee with hubbie. Delicious food all soft enough/mushie enough. went down well probably ate a little more creme brulee than i should but went down easy.
I didn't feel any pain or restriction but stopped when i wasn't hungry anymore. Did do a burp afterwards but not productive. I think I'm getting the hang of this. I can go out for dinner and emjoy it!! Had lots of yummy protein.
The people at the next table must have wondered why I was having such tiny forkfuls but it works. YEAH!!

If I don't like them, I will forward them onto you Cat, since you seem to love them!! I do like stock cubes with hot water so maybe they will be ok. Thanks again Pyretta.

P.S.
The paste form is cheap. For 12 sachets I pay around $2.90. That makes 12 mugs of it. It is also decent in protein.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Mmm miso! It's sooo good. Yes you buy it in Woolworths in the asian section. It just tastes like a stock cube but with a fuller flavour. It is vegetarian and comes from bean curd. You can get dark and light miso. You can get it in paste form or in larger packets with tofu and nori in it.

The small packets Pyretta has are probably like mine. You just break one open into a mug of boiling water, stir and presto. It comes as a paste.

All the best,
Cat

Thanks Linda and Pyretta, maybe I'll try some of the powder from the supermarket, hopefully it isn't too expensive so if it's yukko then I haven't wasted too much money!
