Hi Cat,
that's disappointing because roast pork is my favourite. Can get it down OK now if I chop it up fine and mix with gravy but time will tell once I get to my 'green zone' if I can still eat it I guess.
Had my first fill today and ate pasta carbonara about an hour and a half later......no problems but filled up very quickly.

Tracy,
I've worked out that crackers and cottage cheese cause some sticking. Nothing comes up and out,but I need to move my arms around in order for it to go down properly. Atlantic salmon and pork have made me have a proper PB. Both times the food dislodged and went down but boy did it hurt and feel disgusting.

Woooaaahh! You need to congratulate me (or comiserate with me?) I had my first 'PB' the other day. And what a horrifying experience that was!! Tried to eat a small can of tomato and onion salmon and I must have eaten a little too fast (had not had problems with it before). About the third spoonful I knew I was in trouble. Had to do the 'teapot' trick that I had been told about and 'tip it' back out again. I dead set thought I was having a heart attack......what a horrible feeling.
Get my first fill this Friday so that will be interesting. Just gotten the hang of eating just about everything (except white bread), including steak and toast so I hope I can continue this after my fill. Time and experimentation will tell I guess. I will just need to be very carefull and chew well. Now I know what signs to look out for if things won't go down It will help me I guess.
Chew, chew, chew, Tracy |

I know what you mean, Buck. 7 days after my first fill and I've had food come up (but ultimately go back down) twice. Not sure what the deal is. The second time it was just two crackers with vegemite which I have eaten countless times.
Currently sipping fluids as the middle of my upper back is hurting. I think my oesophegus has gone on strike!

buck,
You can't live on mushie foods for the rest of your life. You really need to get over your fear. Start by taking small "nibbles" of solids foods, no bigger than a pea and see how you go.

I am back to eating mushie stuff. I think I am too scared to eat normal stuff. Every time I eat something it gets stuck.
As I have had one bad 'spew' time I NEVER want to go through that feeling again it was yuck!
My freind thinks it is all in my head the getting 'stuck' as she eats everything. |

Michelle,
The only time I had a problem with pasta was when i started getting restriction. Just take small bites of the pasta to start with.

No problems at all with eating anything at this stage!

Hi Michelle,
I'm pro not vomitting. So I haven't tried pasta or anything even slightly iffy. I have eaten processed mac and cheese without any issues and also pureed macaroni tuna mornay. The pasta was still in small chunky bits and went down fine. The only time I've had a near vommit was when I forgot to chew some salmon and swallowed a piece.

Hi Cat,
How do you go with PASTA bolognaise, as I heard pasta gets stuck. Do you have any trouble? I saw my husband eating a pasta chicken curry the other night and I thought that if its covered in curry sauce maybe it wouldn't be so much trouble, but I am still on the liquids stage so unsure about pasta....

Hello there banding buddy surfie/bucksin!
My fill went fine. It caused a case of upset tummy and wind for 3 days but then it settled down. I can still eat the same amount but boy do I feel full! I am still starving between meals, but when I do eat I feel a bit more satisfied. I have another fill appointment in 8 weeks. I hope to get another 1ml or so put in. Not sure what my surgeon's plans are. He's a man of few words..lol
I've been on mushies ever since, but I know I could handle some real food. My canteen makes this beautiful bolognaise once a week. I ordered a child's serve today. Delish!
How have you been since your bad fill experience? What did you end up doing to resolve it?

ingredience: ground turkey, dried basil, pepper, 1 raw egg, 3/4 cup of COLD water, 1 large can crushed tomatoes, 1 can tomatoe sauce, 1 can tomatoe paste, 5 or 6 cloves of real garlic, and NO fat ricotta cheese which hardly has any calories.
I enjoy cooking and Monday, Feb.9th started my pureed meats stage 3 after cloudy liquids. I bought ground turkey. Put it in a bowl and added dried basil, pepper and 1 raw egg. Mixed it together adding 3/4 cup cold water and mixed it into the bowl of turkey. then 1 can crushed tomatoes, 1 can tomatoe sauce, 1 can tomatoe paste, 5 cloves garlic sliced. Make meat balls and put in the sauce. Cook low heat for an hour. Then take out meatballs and puree them in a blender and put it in a container separate from the sauce. Serve yourself at lunch or dinner 1/4 lb of turkey puree, top with 0%No fat Ricotta cheese, and a little sauce on top. Heat in microwave a short time. Enjoy, from a friend in third stage of lap band diet |

Surfie...think of the revisit to liquids and mushies phase as a time for the weight to fall off again. I'm excited about my fill this Friday, also. It is funny how Tracie, Jedassa and I are all having them this Friday. Kismit? Not sure if I spelt that correctly.
I'm with you Tracie. I have been literally willing my body to drop this last 7 kgs to get under 100. I will go out bowling and celebrate. I haven't been below 100 since late 2000. I was exactly 100 in Dec 2003. It is my sticking point. I walked to work today - was quicker than I thought. 8 minutes one way. Walked briskly to make up for it.

I too had my real first 'stuck' vomit last week. I thought I was dying, the pain in my chest and back was hideous!
I am now back on liquids and mushie stuff as I am too scared to start to eat solids. This happened after my 3ml fill. |

I've eaten half a ham and cheese sandwich on wholemeal bread and I've even had toasted multigrain bread with crunchy peanut butter on it several times. No problems!
I'm 4 1/2 weeks post-op and due to have my first fill next Friday Feb 20 and I can't wait. I know I'm eating more than I should and my weight has stopped moving. I guess it's better to stay the same rather than be going up, but I'm looking forward to when it starts to go down. I'm still trying to get below the dreaded 100kg mark!!

I'm not game to try real bread/toast. The flat bread is lovely. Makes me very full. I have had many dreams about fresh bread, I must admit.

I had my first vomit experience on Friday morning.
I had a piece of 9grain toast.
OMG never again.
The tiniest bit got stuck...
I couldn't get it back up and thought I was going to die.. Because I felt I couldn't breath.
Then I remembered someone saying sometimes a drink can help
So I had the smallest mouth full of coffee.
And instantly it came back up... but the small bit of toast went through..
I could only drink liquid for the rest of the day.
My hot pack was my savour again because I chest hurt.
Have my first fill next sat. |

Tracey,
There are a few terms we use here you may not be familiar with PB is just one.
Taken straight from the welcome thread:http://au.messages .yahoo.com/lifestyle/lap- band/24513/
PB - Productive Burp - This is a 'bandster' term that refers to the regurgitation that most bandsters will experience at least once in their bandster lives when we've eaten more or larger pieces than can be passed through the stoma (small entrance to the stomach). Since the food has not been digested, there is no odour, stomach acid, or retching involved but there may be a varying degree of phlegm that accompanies it. PB episodes may last anywhere from 1 minute to two hours, depending on the individual and circumstances. After a PB episode, under most circumstances, it's best to refrain from eating at that meal and let the stoma rest. If it is happening constantly it may be a good idea
to try going on fluids for 24 hours to see if the inflammation goes down. If not, you must see your doctor.

Hi all,
just checking back in. I have been on mushies for a week now and was told to 'up' the texture a bit in the second week but I feel like I can eat just normal foods! I had devilled sausages with rice tonight and got through a small bowl (about 1 and a half cups) in about 10 minutes. I know I will have to slow down a bit, but without any restriction I feel I can eat everything and anything. I haven't eaten any bread as yet though because my dietician warned me not to try it as it can be very tricky. I am worried with the sort of things I can eat and the fact that I get hungry regularly that I will undo all the good work of the past few weeks and put back on the 8kg that I have lost :- ( . Can't wait for first fill. Going to try some roast pork tomorrow night but will chop it up fine and smother it in gravy. Had 2 rissoles with gravy last night and it was really yummy. (I love my meat). I have had a couple of crackers with cheese as well and made sure I chewed them up well before swallowing. I am paranoid about getting stuff stuck and I even have bad dreams about it! Almost swallowed a piece of BBQ chicken today without chewing it properly and gave myself a scare but must have been chewed enough to slip through as It didn't affect me.
You guys often refer to the term 'PB' and it dosen't sound good.......pardon my ignorance but......what is a PB?
Cheers, Tracy |

fluffy_puppie sorry posted this on the general chat and should have been here.
I am on any food that I can mush with a fork
For dinner tonight I made one of the soups Bell posted on one of these pages. It was so nice.
What I want to say was my dietitian told me not to eat any more then 2/3 a cup at a meal and over 10 mins. I am doing this and even if I feel like I would like more I don't have it and about 10 mins later the feeling is gone.
Up until yesterday it was 1/2 a cup and when I tried the2/3 today I found that I was feeling full before I had eating it all.
Ham and Pea Soup posted by lizardbell
1 large onion, chopped
200g lean ham, chopped, I use soccerball
1 stick of celery, chopped
1 large carrot, peeled and chopped
2 litres water
6 chicken stock cubes
150g risoni pasta (looks like rice)
1 cup frozen green peas
pepper to taste
1 Coat a large heavy based saucepan with cooking spray. Heat, add the onion, ham, celery and carrot. Cook for about 3 minutes.
2 Add the water and stock cubes, bring to the boil, lower heat, cover and cook for about 5 minutes.
3 Increase heat, add the risoni, cook uncovered, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes. Stir in the peas, cook until heated through. Serve seasoned with pepper.
This soup becomes extremely thick as the risoni pasta continues to swell. |
