Yeah Nicole I was the same, fortunately I had health fund. And I had my superannuation early released to cover the gap. So it cost nothing out of pocket only lowered my super a bit...so that didn't bother me. The Holy Spirit is a nice hospital, that is where he does his surgery.

My scars are pretty much unnoticeable now, although I have a small pucker (fold) now around my port scar as the skin is loose...oh well!

If I can be of anymore help, just ask.

Thanks so much Shell, That's what i wanted know. I just thought i'd get some general opinions and pick my guy that way. :) If i get 6 different people say one particular doctor is great and he's near me i might consider him.....and weigh up the things that are important to me. I have to say though. i LOVE the idea of minimal scaring and no nasal tube. :)

Hi Nicole
My surgeon was Dr George Hopkins. He is a no nonsense kind of guy but has always been respectful and never made me feel uncomfortable about my size (which was considerable when he first met me!!! lol) He took the time to explain everything to both my husband and I at my first consultation although he is always very busy and dashes in and out of fill consultations most of the time.

He is very highly skilled and worked and trained for quite some time with George Fielding. He charges for his fills ($130 and you get $103 back) I don't know what he charges for his surgery now but I think without any health cover it would be around the $16,000. But you would need to check on this as I really don't know.

He does NOT use the gastro nasel tube. He has several clinics, one at the Wesley, one at The Holy Spirit Chermside and one at a day hospital somewhere near Enoggera I think. (not sure about that one as I haven't seen him there)

His staff are very friendly and helpful and have always been only too happy to help out if I have had a problem.

Hope this helps.

Thérèse

Hi Nicole
I think you will find that most surgeons a pretty good but each person who responds will gives their personal view.
My doctor is at John Flynn (Gold Coast) and have found the whole experience professional and good. The staff are great and very understanding, the dietitians really know their stuff and have been working with the lap band patients for over 6 yrs. The doctor is very very good and even though I have only been banded for around 3 weeks, the scars are healing nicely and I should like that they won't be too obvious. When I woke from surgery there was no nasal tube.
Hope this helps.
