Re:December 2009 banding Reply to this message
Hi december Banders,

I have just been banded on the 2nd of November and all is good so far.

I felt I should offer some advise on who to tell and what etc.

I told quite a few people and now regret telling some of those. One of my well meaning friends insists on complementing every day about how much weight I have lost (even on the opti prior to the diet, when I hadn't lost much). I know I am that overweight that people are not going to honestly notice my weight loss till much further on. I know she means well but I am getting really tired of her focusing so much on my weight loss (when I know its hard for anybody to see any noticable changes in me yet). I think I would have got much more genuine complements if I hadn't said anything and just waited till people genuinely noticed.

I read on one the these threads (a little too late) that a good thing to say is that your having a hernia operation because the operations are very similar regarding eating and operation site etc.

Think twice before you tell too many.

There are alot of sceptics out there.

Love Leanne

I quite liked Celebrity Slim for him as it is a generous (60gm) serving and I felt slightly more satisfied.... but after some more research I have ventured across to a health and fitness meal supplement drink which offers a greater variety of nutrients to assist my day to day energy levels. I work in a very strenuous job with a lot of heavy lifting which sounds like it would be great for my health, but unfortunately for me, the other half of my time is spent driving in traffic which is when i really struggle with eating and drinking badly.

Re:December 2009 banding Reply to this message
Hi all! This is my first post re: lap band. I am eagerly awaiting my banding on December 11th. I have completed most of the other appointments as well as 2 seminars. I feel like I want to talk more to people about it as I can hardly hold back my excitement. It's all happened pretty fast as I only found out about banding 6 weeks ago when a friend told me how successful it has been for he work colleague. Since then I have spent countless hours on the internet collecting information and researching the procedure, not to mention success stories galore. I haven't heard much negativity at all and have dived head first into getting it done. I have had to finance it as my current health insurance won't cover me, but even at the price I am paying, I don't think it is too much for my health and for a better quality of life. I am 30y/o, 187cm, 165kgs, and 47 bmi, but just the thought of success is making me feel i am going to relive my 20's again.... but better! I have been trialling various shakes as I know from past experience the can be horrid, and I have cut bread from my menu. I have already lost 7kgs without much sacrifice, although I started going to the gym and exercising which has seen my muscle mass and weight increase slightly again... but I feel great! Will keep you all updated.

Hi Kaz
I put on 4kgs before opti -- in a goodbye to the world scenario-- (thai, italian etc etc) I then lost 6kgs on Opti. Probably not what should be done, but I've forgiven myself -- lol
I hope it wasn't goodbye to the world just goodbye to eating so much of the country at once--lol

cheers katy x

Has anyone started overeating to make up for when they are banded. I have a horrible feeling I am going to put on weight before I start optifast.

Hi all

My BMI is 41.1 but i have heard mixed views on whether I will have to optifast it (hoping if I have to that they will let me do Tony Ferguson). Anyway see the dietician on Thursday so will know my fate then. 34 days till banding.

Hi everyone!!
Good to see our time finally getting a little closer. Its been so hard to get into my surgeon and have been waiting anxiously since mid year to get to my op date. I am having a gastroscopy next tuesday and then my op date is 16th Dec - YAH can't wait!! As nervous as I am about opti-fasting during the pre-chrissy celebrations and being banded for chrissy I am just so excited to think it will be my last overweight, hot, self conscious and uncomforable christmas. I am in Coffs Harbour NSW.
Best of luck as our dates get closer.
Oh and my BMI is 37. Can't wait to get that baby movin on down!!

Cheers,
Jess

Hi Kaz
I am in Brisbane. I have made my appointments for dietician, exercise guru and started my pre-op diet. Although I don't officially have to start it till next Monday, I thought I would start a week early and give myself time to adjust prior to having to(mind over matter). I have to officially do 3 weeks pre- op as my BMI is 50.7
Long way too go just hope being an old girl won't be too much of an obstacle.
Great to have found this website it's fantastic to be able to talk to people in the same situations and so interesting as well.

Re:December 2009 banding Reply to this message
Hi All
Well I am due to be banded 1st December, providing I can get my Super funds released to pay for op. This is something I have thought about for a few years now even went to get referral from GP and looked into how to finance, then decided I could do it on my own with Tony Ferguson to help, well I did really well and then as with every other time over the last 40+ years I gained it back then with some GST as my doctor put it. So I have decided that I need it done NOW so I have told only a copule of people till after it is done cause I don't want to be talked out of it again. I see it as my last chance for a nomal life.....

I have several reservations about the op, I am sure will require a steep learning curve e.g. not drinking with meals, EATING SLOWLY, CHEWING WELL, and maybe never to eat fresh bread again or enjoy a nice peice of steak, but I guess things have to change dramatically I need a miracle.
My aim is to learn to enjoy exercise and become an exercise junky(hate exercise) and to choose healthy options to eat to live instead of the other way round.

Well enough chatter from me for now, I will watch this site to check how everyone is going and I wish you all well. Bring on the band I say......

Pat

Re:December 2009 banding Reply to this message
I have told my partner and kids. I also told my boss because of the sick leave (unfortunately getting a new boss so will have to tell her too). Not telling friends because they can be fickle. Haven't told my parents (they will worry and try and talk me out of it). Last conversation I had with someone (non band related) about weight they just said "Well if I put on some weight I would just diet and take it off before it got out of hand" The girl was a size 8. So I don't think there is a lot of understanding out there. So keeping it on a need to know basis. I am in WA. Where are you?

Re:December 2009 banding Reply to this message
Hi Katie
I am also getting banded before Christmas. I also have 2 Christmas parties 5 and 6 days after the op (1 a buffet). I think this will be the first Christmas I don't put on weight (except when I went on the only eat rice diet) and look forward to how I will look/feel next Christmas. Oh and its my birthday in December (I'll be 15 days post op) and we always celebrate with dinner - need to think of something else (any suggestions)

Re:December 2009 banding Reply to this message
Think about how much you will enjoy next Christmas if you are 30,40 or even 60% closer to your goal weight. If you choose to have the band then enjoyment everyday and on special occasions has to be about something other than food. The band is a good decison but you have to make it work. Mack
