| Yay! I was looking for a November thread. I'm being banded on the 12th of November also. I'm 21 years old and I'm currently sitting on 115kgs, I was 126kgs before Opti. Have been on Opti since August, because my banding date was postponed. Looking very forward to that date even moreso, now. |

Hi and welcome Wen and Angel --- where are you both from?
I am so not telling anyone, except for my parents and my friend who is doing this with me. It is noones business, I am not even telling my children as they will accidentally tell my pillock of an ex!!!
I feel comfortable doing things on this message board as unless I want to reveal things noone would know me from Kevin Rudd -- lol
Lisa -- the sugeon asked for a barium meal in his words to check the plumbing is all working before he does things to it. They all seem to have different ways of working, ours (Ian Baxter) has a very quick progression opti/fluids mushi etc compared to others.
I am still guessing my date, because he is on hols but am getting prepared before I see him rather than afterwards -- he said there was no waiting list.
Wen -- if you have time I suggest you read one of the earlier months posts from the bottom to the top (ie in date order)---- for me that really helped --- good and bad stories. (I did Feb 09)The support they all give each other is really nice, and don't forget that if everything is going really well, most people wont bother to say anything,
I'll make a new list and stick you guys on it --
By the way -- I dont mind sharing I am 132Kg with a BMI of 44. I'm 47 and have been on diets for about 20 years! Surprisingly with not much sucess!!

Thanks Lisa for your prompt reply. Wow - this message board is good and so helpful.
By not "spreading the word" so to speak, I'm not putting pressure on myself so it's purely a selfish reason but why does the whole world need to know anyway.
I see on the board that you're being banded the day before me (that is hopefully my surgeon agrees with going ahead). I arranged that date cos it suits my social calendar - - - looking forward to heaps and heaps of social activities once this weight goes !!!

Hey Wen, congrats on your decision! I just realised our usernames are almost the same - I chose it because it's true and also very positive.
I am also not telling anyone about my surgery except my husband because there are too many people that would be ready to say I'm taking the easy way out or they'd just be waiting for me to fail.
Katy I read about you having a barium meal...I don't have to have one. Is that your surgeon's requirement or the hospital?

Hi Panda
This is my first time ever messaging on a board so pls bear with me. I'm over this overweight thing and a close friend (ex nurse) suggested looking at lap banding after seeing me not succeeding with the various diets - - so I am taking the plunge and feeling so nervous, apprehensive and absolutely scared. Having said all that - a month ago I made my apt with my surgeon for 8 Oct and yesterday rang the secretary and got her to make the respiratory specialist and dietician appointments so - - - at this stage I'm looking at an op on Thursday 19 November - - - so I guess you can put me down on the list.
After reading some comments on my doctor's message-board (is that the correct terminology) I am feeling a little more confident. I'm definitely not going back. I need to lose 50 kgs and do feel positive but like all of us I guess the thought of major surgery is rather nerve-racking.
Thanks for starting this thread. Apart from my family and a couple of very close trusting and supportive friends - no-one is going to know about my impending op as I feel it's none of their business and I need positive support at the moment.

Hey Panda
Thanks for starting the thread.
I have my barium meal on Friday morning -- one hurdle at a time I guess. bleeuchhh
I'm going to try to get APRA to allow the release of the gap I will need to pay from my Super- they probably wont -- the government are not normally on my side -- LOL
Taking the children down to White Water World for the day tomorrow -- hopefully the last time I worry about getting stuck in a tube -- aka Homer Simpson (but pink not yellow!). I usually spend the time on a sun lounger hoping no-one can see me!!
Tell us how the dietician goes -- I see mine next week. (I've actually seen her before on one of my other weight loss kicks -- ---- never mind-this time it will work!!!!)
As Dawn French says -- if we lived in the time of Rueben or some of those other painters we would be Supermodels and Kate Moss would be the brush!!!

Hey Panda! Congrats on your decision! I've got 67 kgs to lose and I'm seeing the dietician and psychologist on Oct 22. It's an exciting process, but also nerve wracking!! Keep us updated with what's going on for you!

Hi All,
Sorry i didnt check this earlier, it kind of just disappeared so i thought i was the only one!
I'm in Townsville, and provided all my blood tests are ok, i'll be getting surgery on the 12th of November by Dr Sam Baker.
I decided that once my Husband & I had saved enough money to pay for the surgery that i would get it. I have about 50 - 60kgs to lose, and am currently 43.5 BMI.
I've got my dietician appt on the 14th of Oct so i'm really looking forward to that!

Hey Katy,
I really hope you'll be in November too so we can encourage each other not to inhale paddle pops and m u f f ins (hey maybe it's the m u f f that's rude?)
This message board is a great place to be!!
Keep us updated with your progress on getting an official date.

We must be sisters from other mothers Lisa!!!
I regularly inhale food (chocolate paddlepops are my thing and yahoo lets me write that so obviously not as bad as m u f f ins - I wish!)
On the other hand if you enjoy going to the gym maybe no relation --- LOL
I too have 63Kg to lose (it was only 60 until I decided to do this so I might forget those 3 when I get rid of them!!)
I hope that the message board will be one small pleasure along the way!! I love reading the others and can't wait to get a date so I can feel like a real contributor -- pretty sure it will be Nov though.

Hi Katy and everyone!
I have always enjoyed going to the gym so exercise is not a problem for me... but I just received my hospital admissions forms in the mail and immediately I had to inhale 2 double-choc m u f f i n s (it wouldn't let me write that word for some reason)!! I am such an emotional eater which is why the band will have to be combined with therapy in my case! I have got 67kgs to lose.... BRING IT!! |

HI Shelley
I've been doing that for 10 years
A friend made me think about the diets I have done/attempted over my life and it was scary. You name it I have done it and am probably a life member. What I am not being is honest with myself tho -- if I did one of the better programs and stuck to it I would have lost weight. I am always so positive for somewhere between 1 week and 2 months --- doing charts, having a skinny outfit chosen etc etc -- but I was never able to keep going. I would sabotage myself as I was so happy with the small losses I almost ended up celebrating with food!!!
This time I may be doing the shakes to begin with, but I know at that 4-6 week point something will start to help me -- and that is the band.
Hang in there |

HI I have been drinking the diet shakes for months and walking but no success, but I am keeping them for after my op so I am already used to having them anyway.

Hi Mack and Lisa
Thanks for the advice Mack -- I have been on a "bender" for the last 2 weeks since I made the decision and have managed to put on 3Kg. I knew I was out of control as I was inhaling any food that didn't move out of my way -- but managed to avoid the scales until this morning. I am so angry at myself -- so as it is 2 weeks before we see the surgeon I have put myself on meal replacements starting today!!!
Our surgeon is away but his receptionist and our GPs have started us getting bloods/barium meal etc -- and we will probably be in surgery in early November (if everything goes well)
Lisa -- welcome to the November banders -- there are 3 of us now -- quite a team -- LOL
My friend Fattifattibumbum (great name) is doing this with me up here on the Sunshine Coast, and she will also be joining this forum. (so 4)
So we are now----in date order
Panda -- 12/11 -- Sydney
Lisa -- 18/11 --???
Katy --?? -- Sunshine Coast
Fattifattibumbum --?? -- Sunshine Coast
Here we go------ Katy x |

The November banders are begining to appear. Use the time to get ready, empty the cupboards and the fridge, read everthing you can, ask questions. Mental preparation is important. Begin to exercise more and prepare for sucess.
Good Luck! Mack |
