I just received an email from the Hobart clinic regarding costs just in case anyone else in interested.
"There are three costs involved in lap banding – the hospital cost (about $6500) should be covered by your health fund, the anesthetists should cost about $300 out of pocket, and the surgery is $3300 minus your health fund rebate of about $800, leaving about $2500 out of pocket, which we let people pay off over time after the surgery."
I sent my quiry yesterday and got a reply today. |

Hi, Dr P was fantastic. I live in the north and he is most happy to schedule my fill appointments on the weekend. I was banded on the 26/3, have lost 7kg so far. The op was fine and went home the next day. At my pre- op appointment (1st meeting) he went through everything, gave me lots of time. He is very relaxed. His cost is $2000 of which you have an out of pocket of $1200 from medicare and mbf. I got my surgery date booked one week after my appointment. I dont know about super but you could ask him via email. I emailed him via the ask a question link on his website which is : http://www.hobartobesitysurgery.com.au
Follow the links and you would probably get an email with all your questions answered in a week or less. Good luck and hope it all goes well! vettie1234 |

Hi all
Just an update on my costs
The dr charged 3300 and I got 800 back from private health and medicare. The anaesthetist charges 600 and I got 400 back from private and medicare. The xray afterwards cost 250 but got it all back. The theatre was nearly 10000 including the cost of the band but that was all covered by the private hospital/doctor deal they have.
So all up I paid 2700 out of pocket expenses. Not bad compared to some on the mainland and in my opinion VERY VERY good decision.
regards
Mshell
PS Vettie good luck for Monday I will be down in Hobart for my second fill that day so will think of you.

HI
I had my lapband done on the 6th march 2007 and was done in Hobart private hospital bye Dr Wilkinson therefore i dont know if they do it in public but the waiting list which i last heard would take 2 or 4 years wait. I have lost 5 kilo since 13th march 2007 and will find out if i lost any more. As for the cost if you are in health cover you get approx what the others have mention in the post. If not will cost you just under $10,000 for it.
Hope that helps. You can always email me on darylpeta @ hotmail.com
Cheers

Hi there,
Im having my surgery next monday the 26th with Dr P. He advised me that I would be out of pocket around $1200 for his costs and approx $600 for the anaethasist. He said that he (and he believes the anaethasist also) are very easy going about the payment of the gap as long as you keep up regular payments. He doesnt act like he is in it for the money at all! He was just lovely, really kind and reasurring and very much the professional. Am very excited about my op on Monday!!! If you want to know more email me on vettie1234@yahoo.com or reply to this message. Talk soon maybe and all the best, Vettie |

Hi Tess
I am from Tassie and will let you know any information regarding lapbanding I have had from my surgeon if it helps you at all. Unfortunately this is only done in Hobart by two or three people. I don't know if it is done in the public sector as I went private. There are a couple of other people on here who have sent me messages but they also were private. You could ring the surgeons in hobart and ask if they do public lists.
hope I can help.

Hi Tess,
there are threads such as FAQ (frequently asked questions) where you can post any kind of question regarding lapbanding. It is so hard to keep up with new threads, there are way to many atm.
Hope that helps

WELCOME
This board has many sections so 'click' on a topic to find out the information you are interested in and if you have further questions please post it on the relevant topic rather than starting a whole new thread, as you will find many of your questions will be answered there. By looking back over past pages you will find a thread to suit you - Please AVOID making new threads unless there is no thread that covers your topic. The message board can become quite hard to navigate other wise.
Please remember many of us have bonded as we had the surgery at the same time or have met up and tend to keep track and talk to those who are at the same stage. Don't be discouraged if you don't get a response or people talk "around" your post. Keep at it and don't give up - we are generally a pretty friendly lot.
On all the pages you will see some numbers at the bottom and top of the page, indicating past topics, its well worth scrolling back, as many of the things you want to know have been addressed before. You will find a huge range of topics such as:
* Cost - range from $2 000 - $18 000 - best to ring around the surgeons in your area.
* Surgeons - scroll back to see which surgeons in your area.
* Pre and post op advice
* Optifast
* General Advice
* Get Togethers
* Inspirational stories
and many more.
The General Chat topic can be used for anything but it moves pretty fast. Use the 'Introduction' topic to let us know who you are and then spend sometime having a read on the other and past topics.
WARNING - SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE FROM A PROFESSIONAL, THESE PAGES ARE ONLY MEANT AS A SUPPORT TO EACH OTHER AND DOES NOT SUBSTIUTE MEDICAL ADVICE FROM YOUR DOCTOR.
PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND OR POST ON THIS THREAD – it is not a discussion topic rather some friendly advice to our new visitors. |
