If it is any help i was banded 23.08 by Mr Michell at Essendon Private. He was fantastic and I was home the next day, I would strongly recommend him.

Thanks Peter, I will keep that in mind, my first apt isn't until late November with Dr Mitchell, I have already had my first apt with Mr Winnett, and have my second apt aready booked in, so hopefully things will be moving with Mr Winnett by than and I won't need to see Dr Mitchell.

Re:Dr Ian Mitchell Reply to this message
Hi Tigger,

I was due to be banded by Ian Michell at the Warringal Hospital on July 18 but had made sure that Kate, his office manager, knew I was keen to go earlier. I got a call on June 1 asking me if I was well and if I was sitting down. Then she asked if I was ready to be banded the next morning!!!!! (apparently somebody who was due to be done had failed to tell them that he/she was on Warfarin and had to be rescheduled) So I got 18 hours warning and no pre surgery diet. (All Good)

So be prepared and if you are ready and able let them know. It may not speed thing up but... you never know.

Regards
Peter

Re:Dr Ian Mitchell Reply to this message
I am seeing Dr Michell, I have just finished my 3 pre op visits (dietitian, respitory spescialist and the shrink) and am now waiting for my surgery date(getting a little bit nervous). I found him to be very thorough so far and very nice. Looking forward to joining the banded club.

Re:Dr Ian Mitchell Reply to this message
It is soo hard isn't it. I found reductil great when I first started, it really helped with the emotional eating.

Oooh Heidelberg is really close to me,

Are you going private or waiting on a public list?

Re:Dr Ian Mitchell Reply to this message
Tigger,

We all have different goals and start weights but we are all on the same road and your achievements are just as relevant as anyones.

I am still having Opti for breakfast and lunch most days but was told to go off it for medical reasons. I just keep putting weight on when I am off it though.

I'm taking reductil now as well which has helped kickstart the losses again after yoyoing for the past 6 or so months.

BTW I have met with Ian Mitchell, he also works out of the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg. He is nice enough.

Re:Dr Ian Mitchell Reply to this message
Thanks Pyretta, I am doing well, but have stalled in weight loss. Lost 30kg so far but still have 40kg to go before I am anywhere near a healthy weight, I am gaining more than losing lately, even did 2months of du*a*ne 40mg and optifast and only lost 600mg :( - reductil worked soooo well for 6mths, but doesn't seem to do anything anymore. I don't want to go into my 30's being so large :(

Re:Dr Ian Mitchell Reply to this message
Hi, I have an apt booked with Mr Ian for September. Did anyone of you pay out of your own pocket? I have private insurance, but still have 8mths of my waiting period to go, since my orginal cover didn't cover any of the cost. But don't want to wait 8mths so have applied for a personal medical loan.

I would love for other people's comments on Dr Mitchell.

Re:Dr Ian Mitchell Reply to this message
Hi Claire,

I was banded by Ian Michell 5 weeks ago at the Warringal Hospital in Heidelberg although I know he does the procedure at Epworth and I think Essendon Private.
I was very happy with him. He answers questions thoroughly and unlike many surgeons has both a personality and a sense of humour. I went to him as I had a kidney transplant 18 years ago and he does both kidney and liver transplants which to me meant he understood both what I'd had done and what complications that may create for the banding. Also if he does liver transplants he is at the top of the surgical tree.

Regards

Peter

I have had had surgery by Mr Michelle I would thouroughly recommend him he bent over backwards to help me. He really wants to help you but you have to really want it. I love him, for the way he changed my life i could not thank him enough and he is honest enough to give it to you straight.
