Hi Mel,
Is there anyone that will cover you if you are willing to pay an excess on the policy and or pay more for the policy.
It will be 10 months from the op until the time we travel.
I have had the band slip once, and I am scared to go overseas with the band on, and it not covered by travel insurance.
Thanks Jacklyn

Hi Leanne,
Sorry I haven't been well, picked up a virus and hadn't checked the site. They said that they would not cover it because of the time frame - it will be 10 months from the time of op until we go. They would not cover it even if we paid an excess.
Thanks for your help
Jacklyn

I have done some research at Sydband Jacklyn...

After 12 months of the band in situ, its no longer considered a pre existing condition, so you are covered by regular insurance. Before 12 months, it is not covered and you sign a waiver or pay an additional premium.

Re:travel insurance Reply to this message
Hi Jacklyn

Did they give you a reason why they won't cover you? Is it because you have been banded less than 2 years? I know some companies will only cover people banded for more than 2 years.

I know two people who have have been covered by 1 Cover but you need to be banded more than 2 years. I will cut and paste the post but I'll leave their names off to protect their privacy.

Leanne

‘I have had some success with the travel insurance issue. I rang 1Cover, who gave me the number of their Medical Underwriters – Allianz - phone: 1800 227 771. They will give cover straight away to the "banded" as long as you have had your band for 2 years or more - I am 6 weeks too short, but this is great news. They may choose to load the premium or maybe not at all, I guess it all depends in the individual. Unfortunately before the 2 year time period, they said that I would have little luck in getting the band covered.’

Re:travel insurance Reply to this message
No idea sorry to tell you Jacklyn. Do insurance companies cover hip replacements and heart valves... and what about pacemakers???? I am curious now. Might need to take this a bit further and see what we can do.

I am about to take off next week... not sure if I am covered now with my insurance. And I am doing Italy again next year - so will have to do a bit more investigating.

Hi,
Just thought I would let you know, I approached Columbus and also Covermore Insurance for travel cover. Both will NOT cover the band.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks Jacklyn

Hi Sam

Is 1cover and covermore two separate companies or one and the same?

Hey Guys,

Yes you will need to fill in a medical assessmen form and it can be found on www.covermore.com.au and on the left hand side of the page you will see a link for either online medical assemsment form, or a link to download and submit manually. Either one is fine for you. Alternatively you can pick up a form as well as a policy booklet from your local travel agent.

Cheers Sam

Marion

Did the Travel Insurance actually cover you for your band? Some Travel Insurance companies won't cover the band. If it's an emergency and your hit by a bus and the band is damaged yes it will be covered usually, but not in case of slippage, over fill, fill removal etc.

Hi everyone
Has anyone got travel insurance since they've been banded? Have you had to declare you've been banded? Had to get doctors authorisation etc? Is there a policy out there that covers it automatically, or with an additional premium?
