Good on u Rose. I am sure you won't have been the first person to question the charges.

storminateacup,

I am off tomorrow to Dr's. I will be asking why they charging such excessive fill fees.

I am quite annoyed by this.

cheers,

Wow, wow and wow!
At the time I was banded there was a "ruckus" on here as the surgeon I got ot do my op is expensive up front compared to some. BUT, this was over 3 years ago now, I was $4000 out of pocket after top cover blah blah, BUT when I have a fill I am charged a $10 needle fill, for a fill or unfill.
IF I jsut go to see the doctor for a chat to check on the next step, discuss if I need a fill etc and he doesn't actually do one, it is a free app also.

I have read of many people I your prediciments Rose and Linda. It is a alot of money when you have already outlayed so much. And yes, you both no doubt went into this knowing that you had to pay for fills, but possibly you both didn't realise you would need so many adjustments. ANd in your case Linda, you are starting your fills all over again after your trip!
Everything you touch is money though!!

Linda,

I think I should go to your doctor as it is much more reasonable.

This fill charge is beyond a joke.

I feel that they should have been upfront with the charges, and feel that they are just being greedy.

thanks, Rose

My doctor charges $140 for a consultation and adjustment, whether it is in or out. The refund from medicare is $34.55 for the consultation and $78.70 for the adjustment. Total $113.25 leaving me to pay $26.75.

Re:8ml and still no restriction!!! Reply to this message
Hey storminateacup,

The fills started out @ $120.00. Now they are $200. It was a very expensive episode for me a couple of months ago as paid for fill, then had to go a week later for and unfill of point 3.

That worked out @ $133 bucks per mil approx.

If this every happens again I am going to speak up and get them to bulk bill me.

It was a complete rip off.!!!!

Rose,
I've never heard of a doctor charging for an unfill but not for the actual fill (plenty charge for both thats for sure)!!! That's a bit rude lol!
My fills were all free...... but of course the doctor just bulk bills medicare so they are hardly missing out hey!
I have a friend who pays over $100 for a fill, poor girl!

Tan,

Forgot to mention. I dont know about your doctor, but mine charges to take fill out. So not only was my overfill an awful experience, it was also a very costly experience to have it taken out.

Cheers, Rose

Re:8ml and still no restriction!!! Reply to this message
Tan,

Restriction is a funny thing.

It takes a while to get it right. Either too little or too much never seems to be just right. I have a 10ml band banded in Oct 08. At 8mls of fill i could eat the horse and the Jockey. At 8.3mls I was P.Bing, and had the worst reflux ever. But 8.2ml is perfect for me. Point 1 or point 2 of a mil can make or break you.

Yet my friend has a 10ml band and has 6mls of fill and can eat very little.

We are all different and what works for me may not for you. As are our losses, I have only lost 15kilos since Oct 08 yet my friend with the 6mls of fill has lost 30kilos.

Hang in there, be patient, it will all come together for you Im sure.

take care, rose

Tan,
Some friends suck from time to time. When youare pregnant there is always that friend who takes it upon yourself to let you know they had 250 stitches inside and out and most first babies are 14 pounds and they nearly died on the table blah blah blah.
There are a lot of people who just because they have a band feel they are an authority on it. Each band and each person is different. Only you, your doctor and dietician can get your band working properly. You may end up with a total of 2 mls in your band or you may end up with 10 ml in it, you will find something that suits you though and your weight loss will take off again.
Stay on mushies for the first few days and then try and have 3 meals and 2 snacks a day like I suggested a few posts back and see if that helps. You need to eat to give yourself the energy to keep going and the drive to go for a walk etc.
You will be fine luvy!

Tan it is amazing how small an amount can make a difference when you get close. If it doesn't work this time can I suggest that next fill you stay in town for awhile get what might be an overfill and see if it is too much or just right and you are in the vicinity to go back if you need a bit out. I hope that makes sense!

Hi Tan,

Don't be to dissapointed my surgeon says everyone is different with the amount of fill needed. He has a patient that has 12ml in 10ml band?? Not sure how that works but it must. Are you hungry?

Hey Maddie and Debs

I have an appoint for a fill tomorrow. I am guessing 8.5ml in 10ml band, so fingers crossed I will have some restriction....i feel more confident since posting on these boards that it will happen. I have friends that have had the band and keep telling me that there is something wrong with my band, blah, blah........and they have lost heaps, so here is hoping that i can get on the weight loss band wagon tomorrow. I will let you know how I go :)

Hang in there Tanny and Deb. I recall it took me about 4 months to feel any restriction at all, and around 9 months to get to the sweet spot. It is a long and slow process for some.

Just keep at it, keep going back for fills until its right.

Cheers
Sue

As you get closer to your "sweet spot" the fill lasts longer and longer and you might only need to get a top up yearly.

Re:8ml and still no restriction!!! Reply to this message
Hi fellow Bandits

I was banded in August, with a 11ml band. My first fill of 5ml, was at 6 weeks (would have been better if the doctor was available to do it at 4 weeks) and my second fill of 3ml was at 10 weeks, so I have a total of 8ml in my 11ml band. I felt good restriction for the first three days after each fill, but then it subsides a bit and the hunger returns. I too, am hoping that the next fill has a longer effect. When I have good restriction, I do really well with no effort at all, but when the restriction eases, I find it more of a struggle, so I definately know what good restriction feels like.
So far I have lost 12.2kg, but really look forward to loosing heaps more.
Thanks for posting your experiences, it has really helped me at a time when I feel a bit down about not loosing big amounts of weight.

Cheers, Maddi

Re:8ml and still no restriction!!! Reply to this message
Thanks for your replies. Hang in there Deb! It will come. I haven't lost anything in the last 7 weeks but I have been having fills during that time and I am booked for another fill next week, it is a 4 hour round trip for me to get a fill, so I am hoping I get some restriction soon, I tend to err on the side of caution and go for a smaller fill each time rather than risk it and have to go back. I knew that I would have to travel for fills, but was hoping that I would get there sooner than what it is taking.

Re:8ml and still no restriction!!! Reply to this message
Snacking isn't a problem if you have set snacks tanny.
My restriciton is perfect for me and I have 3 small meals a day plus mid morning snack, afternoon snack and even a small biscuit with my bedtime cuppa if I'm hungry.
Many other people will tell you to only eat 3 times a day and someone on here the other day was told by their very grumpy doctor to never eat breakfast!
My suggestion is spend some time finding healthy snacks, fill the cupboard with them. Don't get me wrong I still love chocolate, but I have been at goal wieght for over 3 years and can still maintain everything with small portions.
If you haven't lsot anything for 7 weeks thats a real good sign that you need more restriction. Why not have your fill, if you don't notice much difference after say 4 days (sometimes it takes a couple of days to feel any change and experiment with foods) then make another appoinmnet for a fill. The quicker you find your sweet spot the better it will be!
Good luck!

Re:8ml and still no restriction!!! Reply to this message
woo hoo, you girls have given me hope that I am getting close. I seem to have nothing, but have had a couple of definate PB's!!!! I eat really healthy choices, I was diagnosed with BC at 36 and had the lap band to get my weight off. So I am really conscience of my food choices. I am still hungry after meals and find that I still need to snack between meals but some of that may be "head" hunger. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post, I am on a bit of a high knowing that it may be getting closer. I haven't lost anything for about 7 weeks. Total lost since June is 11kg but most of that was in the early mushie/liquid stage.

Re:8ml and still no restriction!!! Reply to this message
isnt PBing an indication fo some restriction? otherwise, thered be no reason to PB.

I had a hole in my tubing and therefore, no fill so no restriction (after about 8 fills). there was definitely no PBing during this time - all food went straight down.

Id say youre really close - when you get close you can go from almost nothing to not being able to swallow your own saliva in a 1/2ml fill. Shouldnt be long!

Re:8ml and still no restriction!!! Reply to this message
Hi Tan,
I would imagine that you do have some restriction as thats why your got your mince stuck. You jsut probaboy don't have enough!
I think I have 8.5 in a 10 ml band and I am perfect.
Sneak up on your mushies after your next fill. No doubt with 8 mls in the doctor will only put half a ml or so in, this is a better way to go, sneak up on it to avoid an over fill!
Do you feel full when you have eaten? Are you eating the right foods, consistency wise? How is your weight loss going?

8ml and still no restriction!!! Reply to this message
Firstly Congrats to all those doing well with their weight loss.

I was banded in June this year and I now have 8 mls in a 10ml band and still no restriction. So I am now starting to wonder if perhaps I have a faulty band. If have had a PB from eating some mince too fast, so I know the band is in there but I still have not felt restriction. I have another fill scheduled next week, so fingers crossed I will feel it then. Just wondering if anyone else has had so much fill with no restriction???

Thanks

Tan
