Hi Pamela,
I didn't take anything for wind pain, so I can't help there.
I had waterproof bandages on & they told me to take them off after 2 days. The steri-strips on underneath should come off by themselves, but I was told to remove them after 7 days if they hadn't fallen off. |

Hi again
I wondered what people are taking for wind pains as they have just started. Also did your doctors tell you when to take the bandages off? I have the waterproof ones on at the moment.

Thanks everyone that is reassuring. The pain relief I have been given is a liquid form and takes all pain away. I am allergic to codeine, morphine, panadeine forte so this is different to all of those and the pump was not morphine based either. The anaethetist was fantastic. I have a high pain threshhold because of the kidney pain so this really threw me but I have not taken pain relief today although still very sore but as I suspect I suspect it is because of the kidney and liver cysts.
Thanks once again. The good thing is it like childbirth it only lasts for a certain length of time and I still think this is the best thing I have done.

In the info i was given it does say you can take anything up to the size of a panadol safely.. I am a big sook also but apart from the initial pain i have been really good except for a real gas problem however i have been taking de-gas tablets and they seem to help.

I was banded on the 12th November & the pain when I woke up was shocking! I could hardly breathe coz it hurt so bad. My incisions are quite spaced out - 5 in total. I wasn't sent home with any pain meds or anything. The nurse told me to take paracetamol if the pain was too bad. I slept in a recliner for the first 3 nights, as I couldn't lay down in bed because it hurt so much!
Now, at almost 2 weeks post op, I feel great :) So hang in there! It does get better!! |

Thank Leigh I thought that may be the case but I am concerned that I generally need to take a codiene based medication for pain relief as Panadol has little to no effect.
The "knock you out ones" that Pamela spoke about sound like me!!!! lol! But I thought we are not allowed to swollow anything hard for the first month or so? |

Thanx CaZ |

Hey Pamela,
Dont stress at least you know they have done something, i'm starting to think they just stuck some gauze on me to make me think i have had it done...lol On a serious note i was done the day after you and to be totally honest when i woke up from surgery i thought someone had king hit me right in the middle of my chest, so everyone does have pain yours is just different and i hope it doesnt last too long, Everyones pain threshold is different however you dont have to suffer if pain continues make sure you let your doctor know. All my cuts are in the same area, a total of 5 mine are as itchy as so i'm not sure if that is worse than the pain, i think i might be allergic to that damn tape..... Take big breathes and relax you will feel better soon...
Cheers

Hi everyone
I am finally in the land of the living. I feel such a woos as everyone else said the pain was minimal but mine was and still is the worst I have ever experienced. I wonder if it is because of the fact all the incisions are in the same place right up under the rib cage and so every time you breathe it hurts. I did not complain but they put me on a pain pump and one of the nurses said "I don't know why you are on this no-one else is!!!!" Maybe it is because of the size of my kidneys and liver. The pain killers they sent me home with (still no complaints from me) are so strong they knock me out which is great). I still have trouble walking and breathing is painful. I wondered where everyone else's incisions are - are they all grouped togethr at the top? I feel like such a sook listening to all of you :)

New bandits,
Please understand that you will generally not have any restriction until you have had a few fills - that is, unless your surgeon has put fill in at banding. You may feel slight restriction soon after the op, but that is generally caused by swelling. It takes some time for any of us to feel restriction.
Also - remember that you are healing. The early stages are about healing, not weight loss. Like you, I didn't want to hear this when I was newly banded, but it's very true. Quite normal to put on some weight in those first few weeks post-op. Unfortunately that's just the way it is. Probably the only way you are going to drop some weight early on is if you use a hell of a lot of willpower and really restrict your calorie intake.
I'm sure you don't want to hear that - I know I didn't! Don't stress, it will all come together.
Good luck to all. This is a lifetime thing, and while it would be nice to think the weight is going to 'drop off', it doesn't work quite that easily.
I'm sure you'll all be fine.

| I've got my post op appt on December 6th and I am also hoping for a fill. I also feel like I have no restriction. I am on the mushy stage and trying to stick to 1/2 cup food for breakfast and lunch with around 1 cup food for dinner. And yes, I'm really hungry between meals, and No, I have never felt full up! I haven't had anything 'bad', and with these quantities of food, expected the weight tokeep falling off, but since hitting the mushies stage I am quite disappointed that the weight loss has come to a standstill. Compared to what I used to eat, I'm quite surprised about this. |

Hi leanne and Angelica
My surgeon has said something similar. I don't think they will not need fill the band - i think it is more trying to help us realise that this has to be done in a healthy manner and that it is important to get enough nutrition as well as still enjoy life.. If you are still losing weight they might be more reluctant ti fill the band. My understanding was the hunger was the deciding factor a lot of the time as this is what the band is meant to address. I was asking about my first fill even before the op as with Christmas coming up I was worried about the doctor going on holidays and things. he told me to just relax a little and enjoy the ride - the weight didn't happen overnight and neither will it disappear overnight. I guess he sumed me up fairly quickly - if I didn't jump into everything with both feet and let go of the rope maybe I wouldn't be this weight to start with.
have an amazing day all

Hi Leanne,
I agree with the filling the band thing, I am constantly hungry and still stick to my liquid diet, I don't believe going through all of this to not have a fill. My appt is on the 9th and fingers crossed he fills my band cos this hunger really hurts, not only that though, I've been putting on 200grams the past 2 days which is frustratng!
Did you get a fill when you saw your surgeon yesterday?

hi Katy and Penni,
I also can eat or drink anything without restriction and as a result my weight loss has come to a stand still.
I went to see the surgeon today for my post op appointment. I told him that I had already made my appointment to see him again in two weeks so I could get a fill before xmas and then he goes away for the whole of january. He told me that not everyone needs a fill, sometimes the band is enough. So he couldn't guarantee that I would be getting any fill. I must admitt I was very disappointed. I know I have lost weight but I feel this has been mostly from will-power as I have no restriction at all.
He told me that the band is only a tool to help people eat healthier. I suppose this is right, as I know I would be eating alot more if I hadn't gone through all this, but I just want my band tightened so that if I do slip up, and I always have before, it is there to say "enough is enough".
Am I wrong to feel that I want my band tightened, after all isn't this what we all had the operation for?
