Hello all. I went for my first fill on Saturday. It didn't hurt at all but I felt a strange tightening in my throat area. He put in 3mls which makes a total of 4.5mls as I already had a 1.5mls in from the op. I thought for sure that I wouldn't be able to get water down but I did. Everything has been fine since. I think I am a bit more restricted than before the fill.
I am now in double figures which I am rapt about with a total loss of 10.5kg. I just feel so much better already! Not huffing & puffing when I walk.
I hope everyone else is travelling along nicely. |

Grrrr! I am .02 kg away from 15kg loss! I was banded just over 6 weeks ago, have 4ml in 10ml band and so far so good!
SW 110kg
CW 95.2kg
Next Goal 90 kgs by Australia Day.
I find setting myself little goals to achieve really helps.
I have a NSV moment too! Gone from 22DD bras and size 18 Knickers to 18E Bras and size 16 Knickers!
Lady in shop said its common to go up a cup size whilst down in dress size in Bras.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I had my first fill today. 1ml put in, in addition to the 3ml already in there. Didn't feel like lunch and just had some san chow bow mince (home made) about the size of a large egg that took me 20 mins to eat. Weight loss today since op (4 weeks ago) 4.5kg plus the opti preop bring it up to just over 12kgs lost in the last 6 weeks.
Trip to NZ was fine for food. Hubby would order what ever and i would have a small bit of his. Scrambled eggs for nbfast and most days I didnt eat lunch.
I did part take in some of NZs finiest white wines though! |

Hi all,
I don't feel much restriction either. I only had 1ml put in at my first fill on Tuesday- the doc said it's better to build up slowly and have not enough than to have too much. So although I am very impatient I'll just go along with it for now.
Anyway, with the 1ml I have not really felt any difference, no restriction as such, but I have noticed I am feeling full and satisfied a lot faster. For example yesterday I was busy and didn't eat regulary, got way too hungry, and when I got home I put a whole one of those big tins of the chunky soup with pasta in it in the micro. Normlly I could easily polish off a whole one of those, even though it is man-size. But yesterday, even over-hungry, I got half way through and thought to myself "I'm full, I don't need the rest" and I threw it out. Normally that would never happen!
I'm not sure if this is the band at work, or if through the liquid and mushy stage etc that I have just trained myself to be satisfied with less??
Either way it's great, I'm just worried that if it's all just my willpower at the moment, that I know my willpower has always eventually run out, and then I go crazy with food. So I really want the band and the restriction to be there as my back up!
I know they all say not to weight yourself too much, but I am weighing myself every day and I find it is a good motivator. When I get up first thing I jump on the scales, and most days they say less than the day before (7kgs so far) and that makes me SO happy and so I find it easy to make good choices in food and exercise so that I will get that little high again tomorrow! On the days when the scales say the same weight it is a little harder, esp if I get stuck on a weight for a while (I got stuck for over 10 days) but I just tell myself that if I make really good choices then tomorrow will be better and at least it's not going up!!

| I had 1.5ml put in my band, and I have hardly noticed a difference. Can still eat anything, except if I eat too fast or to big mouthfull I get pain as it goes through. I haven't lost any weight in about a month (but I haven't put any back on either) 9kg total pre and post op. I don't have much energy at the moment and with a 3 and 1 year old, trying to find time and energy for exercise. Very hard to do if they are around as they get in the way. Although I may give the wii fit a go when they are around. Can only imagine what that will be like LOL.... |

Hi Julie,
I was banded on the 14th, I have only lost 2.5 Kgs since then. I got my first fill this morning and the last thing I want is food. Yesterday, I could eat anything. Today it is back to soup. They put 4 ml in my band but then had to take 1 ml out because I couldn't swallow water (What the...?). So I will be very interested to see what happens from tomorrow on. So, don't worry about being hungry at the moment, you are still healing and your body will demand fuel to heal. Just think of it as a chance to have that last meal. LOL
Cheers

Hi Connorripley,
Well done on the maccas and chocolate things. I got my period this morning and i had massive chocolate cravings on monday. It was then i realised i hadn't had choc for about 5 weeks too. I remember not so long ago i had to some form of choc every day, even just a few spoons of nutella. It was as if my body demanded it. I guess this goes to show it really doesn't.
I was banded on Oct 20th and i dont know how much i've lost. I dont own scales as i dont wanna get obsessed and weigh myself everyday, like i know i will. My sister in law has good ones and i go to her place every 2 weeks so i will just weight muself there. The thing is though, i feel no different. Apart from the fluids for about 8 days after the surgery, i have been able to eat anything. I have had no restriction at all. But this worries me as i had the surgery to restrict what i could eat. I am getting my first fill on Dec 3rd and cannot wait, even though christmas day will be a challenge. I am up for the challenge though. Are we supposed to be still hardly eating anything in the lead up to the fill? I am hungry all the time and it is starting to really annoy me. I have even bought some more optifast to replace some meals as the silly season means more dinner outings etc. I am struggling to eat less as i can eat anything. Is anyone else having this issue?
Also, does anyone go to a support group where you meet people face to face? There is one close to me that i was thinking of going to, but im not sure.
Thanks everyone. I love reading all the posts to see how everyone is doing. Im sorry you've had problems Rebecca. And Mack, your kind words of encouragement are so uplifting, thank you. |

Hi everyone. I'm sad to hear that some people have been having a few problems. Other than my rocky start I haven't been doing too badly. Yet to get my first fill yet - that's in a few weeks time - so will see how things are after that.
I haven't lost as much weight as I was hoping to by this point in time but I've had a few good things happen in the last couple of days that have really helped me. Firstly, I had a chicken caesar wrap from Maccas yesterday (better than the quarter pounder I was craving I decided) & I was really worried about it getting "stuck" as it was the first real substantial thing I've eaten. Anyway, I did feel queasy after...not because it got stuck but because I realized that I didn't enjoy it!! So no worrying about Macca cravings! Secondly, I was looking through my food diary & was shocked to find that I haven't had any chocolate in 5 weeks. Before I could've eaten chocolate every 5 minutes! I bought one of those giant freddos & have a little bit & guess what? I put it away & forgot to eat the rest!! You have no idea how big of a deal that is. Usually all I do, all day is think about chocolate. Finally, last night I went to go to Coles & was looking for some jeans to wear. I grabbed an old pair that I had hanging in my cupboard in the spare room as I hadn't worn them in absolutely ages. I thought I'd humor myself & tried them on & they fit. Like a glove. Size 18, so I am stoked! So just remember that the scales aren't the be all & end all of your progress. I haven't lost that much weight so far but I've gained a lot of other things! |

Nessa, I know exactly how that feeling is, as I was in the same spot. I am lucky tho that my port has turned towards my head and my surgeon was able to get the fill in, by going from the x-ray. However there is still a chance it might go right over as it has come away from the wall. I hope they fix it up fast for you. I know how frustrating it is. all the best...
I know when I eat to large a mouth full or eat to quickly. I can feel it in my chest sitting there, and slowly moving (almost squeezing itself through) it is slightly painful, but more uncomfortable. I was eating fast last night as my 17 month old was very interested in my dinner. So that certainly told me I was eating to much to quickly. I hope that you can get it sorted out. I try to eat slowly, chew well, and only take small bites at a time.
My news..well nothing much is moving weight wise. I seem to be just sitting there. Even tho I eat half the amount I used too. grrrrrrr
Take care everyone |

| Sorry to hear you are having a hard time Rebecca. Oedema is caused by fluid collecting in the body tissues as a result of trauma. Every time you eat something that is too big to fit through the band the swelling increased. Go back to your post op diet and drink through a straw for at least 3 -4 days. When to start to thicken up your food again remember that you can only eat one teaspoon full at a time and it must be well chewed. You must eat like a three year old, little bites, chew well and take your time over the meal. If you don't get this under control the surgeon is likely to recommend removing the band and that would be a shame. Back to the straw diet for a few days until the oedema subsides then keep it small and well chewed. The rewards will be yours. Mack |

Oh Nessa, that's awful. Sorry to hear your bad news. I've read on other threads that it really isn't a big deal when they fix it, but I understand how you feel, I can only imagine how peeved I'd be if it was me.
Hang in there. It will be done soon and you'll be laughing!
I got my first fill today. Ouch! Took a while for her to get it right :-( Actually I am a very big sook, and it was mostly fine except for one big jab that was not good! Feel fine now. On fluids for 24hrs, but they're all going down fine.
Cheers to everyone, Tiff |

Geetings October Banders. The start of another week and the Christmas season is under way. Went to a function on Saturday night and did well! One more glass of red wine than I intended and my husband was glad to be helpful by eating part of my meal. Resisted all the nibblies. I have two functions a week right up to Christmas but this is going to be the year that I lose weight in the silly season!
Hope that everyone is travelling well! Mack |
