Hi,
I get frustrated because I can't see alot of improvement, it's only when I look side on that I realise just how much back fat I've lost and around my belly. Sure I've got heaps more to go, but by Christmas I shoud have knocked off 20 kg. The reality is, that had I not had lap band surgery, I would still be 120 kg and more after Christmas. I'm a third of the way there, and it's been easier than giving birth, looking for a job, moving house and raising kids!
My ear lobes haven't changed! LOL

Hi,
I get frustrated because I look at myself in the mirror and I don't see a lot of improvement, but others do. It's only when I look at myself sideways that I realise I've lost heaps around my back, neck and some of my belly. My clothes also are smaller and looser. I have more anergy, and can do more in a day on my legs than I used to. I also have saggy bits under my arms. My ear lobes haven't changed! LOL

Hi Jude & Jen
Boy can I relate to you both. Like you Jen, I read everyone's messages and then get depressed that others have lost twice as much as me. But like everyone else has said, when I step back and look at the big picture, I have lost 13.5 Kgs and that equats to nearly 1kg per week, so hey, I'm doing pretty good afterall. I cant remember when I last weighed this much.
Something funny that I have noticed, my earings now fit me better, because my ear lobes aren't as fat. Now my studs don't fall off anymore. Who would have thought that your ears put on weight. |

Judith,
Everyone loses at different levels, If you only lose 1kilo a month you are winning. And i have had three fills now and i dont think i am at full restricton yet. It has only been 14 weeks since our ops and that time has flown imagine what you will look like in a year!!! Keep going you will be fine.
Onwards and downwards(in weight that is) |

Hi Jen,
Keep faith girl, I know you can do it and you haven't put any weight on, which is good. Keep an eye out on the restriction you have and don't put up with not or hardly being able to eat as that is no good!
Now that you have restriction, you will start losing that weight you want to lose for sure.
Cheers,
Dom |

THANKS eveyone, I think the main thing for me to do is, not compare. Yes i have lost and I'm fitting into things I havent worn in years,I am feeling better.
Unfortunately my job makes me sit at a computer 5.5 hours each day.
I am going to the Gym which is great, so really I have nothing to complain about, I just expected things to be different.
Thank you all again for your support,I makes me feel heaps better.
Something funny/embaressing happened to me today in Mitre 10, was trying a diet coke while walking around- coughed, projectile vomit, hands full of slime and my friend nearly wetting herself laughing
How can someone be sad when things like that happen
LOL

Well everyone, Ive been a bit embarressed to come on here as for 7 weeks now I have pretty much maintained the initial loss. Finally I think I have restriction. I was banded on August 11 and I think its just that there wasnt enough fluid in. Now every meal I am finding it hard to swallow foods unless nearly liquid but Im now not wanting to eat much. I hope the next 4 weeks will at least allow me to get under 85 kilo. Im trying drinking cordial atm (hate taste of water so hope Karens theory works) For those that have been a little slow like me , remember its a marathon not a sprint
just use it in conjunction with more excercise and more water and it will eventually come off. Just have to remind our bodies they need a kick along to get it moving.
Hugs

I seriously advice you to listen to your body & take care of yourself. If you can't see your surgeon's dietician write down what you eat and do each day and fax or e-mail it over, have her look at it and give you some advice. This can never hurt & might help a lot.
but most importantly: look back at what you HAVE achieved: a 15 kilo loss. This may sound weird, but go to the supermarket, put 15 kilo of flour into a basket and hold that: that's what you've lost sofar! Be kind to yourself and treat yourself to something nice, flowers, a music CD or just some bath salts to luxuriate in for a few hours. You are worth it and you deserve it!
Go with the flow Jude, it is a lot easier then fighting your body. I know you will reach the goals you've set for yourself, sometimes you just need to adjust the timeline. It will still all be worth it.

Hi Jude,
I agree with Karen, don't be sad, you HAVE done fabulously!
I did what Robby did and checked your stats: you are really doing fine!
My starting weight was 132.7, I am now 119. I was banded 19 Aug, Which makes that a loss of just under a kilo per week.
You were banded 6 days before me and have lost one kilo more then me. By my calculations you are losing weight at about the same rate as I am.
You could say that you are doing better then I am, as I weighed a lot more then you did when we started!
That's as far as I will let the comparison go as, really, this journey is different for each and everyone of us.
Just like you, most of my weight was lost in the first weeks and like you I have had (and still have) moments where I thought this band is never going to work for me. When I met the GP that does the fills at my surgeon's clinic he told me that regular, sustained weight loss does not occur until your are getting restriction. I do not have restriction yet (7 ml in an 11 ml band) so I have no choice to be a little more patient & that's very hard. I console myself with the fact that almost 14 kg is gone, never to come back!
If you are really that worried about the fact that the weight loss is not going the way you want it (at least that is what I am reading between the lines & forgive me if I'm wrong) keep in mind that your body has (and is) changing big time. It needs to adjust to it's new "regime" if you want and it will take it's time. Forcing it to do what you want won't work. Your brain & body are stronger then that and won't let you. It's a preserving mech *** m that will not allow you to hurt your body too much. It's hard to do, but it's better to learn to listen to it then to try and fight it.
Ofcourse you can force it, but the results will be that you will become (very) sick. Being kind to your body will get a better response from it! |

Hi jude, dont be sad you have done fabulous, you will never see that weight again. I was 158 kgs and now have made it to 127.4.. But i had heaps to lose. Maybe you are not eating enough. I find if i hardly have anything i dont lose as much as when i actually eat. I think your metabolism needs to be pushed along. I am more of a grazer so i tend to pick small amount about 5 times a day./ I also have a physical job (vet nurse), 5 dogs that i need to walk twice a day, and i do all the housework, lawns etc. I never sit down!!!! Are you drinking enough. Also if you go to the gym heaps you are probably putting on muscle and that weighs alot.
Have a break and just walk lots. keep moving around but dont over do it..
And drink , drink , drink..
Yesterday i had 1/2 yogurt for brekky, some nuts for a snack, 2 cruskits for lunch, a weight watchers icecream in the arvo and 3 party pies for tea. doesnt sound ideal but got up today and went from 128.3 to 127.4... strange hey.. Good luck and keep up the good work. We are all different.
Tell me what eat for a normal day!!!

Hi Jude,
I jsut scrolled down and found your stats. I'm not sure why you think you aren't doing well. Haven't you ever watched the Biggest Loser? Larger people can lose more and faster at first. I believe Karen and Jeff have substantually more weight to lose than you. In fact, the more weight you carry, the more effort it is to walk around in general, using up more energy, and burning up more fat. I think your results a right on track, don't be discouraged. Don't you have a support group, like a dietician or psycologist you can talk to? They would tell you that everyones journey is different, and that you are moving in a positive direction, downwards!

We were all banded around the same time you are both doing so well, I'm about to give up, and i'm getting depressed, I go to the gym 3/4 times a week yet not losing.
Can you both email me what you eat/drink each day so I can see where i'm going wrong.
I dont know what i'm going to do as I dont see dr D until February.
Judithh3@bigpond.com

I guess i am lucky i am now 13 weeks post op and still have not brought anything back up once. I have just had my third fill this week and am still on mushies too tomorrow.
In a sense i am waiting to start PBing so i know when i am close to he green/red zone. Is this the wrong way to think? I now have 9ml in a 14ml band but have experienced no real discomfort yet.
In fact i am absolutely loving this journey.!!! and just hit my first goal this morning of 30kgs!! |

| That's exactly what I was saying, too many banders are putting up with all sorts of long term discomforts and they shouldn't have to. At the end of the day it's not all about restriction, but combing our food choices that help us lose weight. You can still eat a small meal of rubbish food and sabotage yourself. Having more restriction to counter act that is not a solution. Too many will end up living around the red zone for the results, and I don't think that's necessary, that's all. |
