| Hello Everyone, I posted my weight a few days ago, but as I have reached the halfway mark this morning I thought I would post it again. My weight loss has been very slow since banding, only 2.6kgs per month on an average, but at least it is going in the right direction. If I continue to lose 2.6 per month, I will be more than happy. The band is a bit strange, some days it feels as if I have no restriction at all, and other days I do. Last night at dinner out with my daughter and SIL2B (on Friday), and his parents and grandmother, I had my first real blockage!!! I am not sure what it was, I had salmon with vegetables and some garlic/lemon sauce. I don't think it was the salmon, I suspect some red cabbage (there were only a few of them on my plate). I quickly drank some water, and thought I was going to bring it all up at the table.... So out to the ladies room, and I tried to burp to get it up, all this thick saliva like things were forming quickly which had a bit of the dinner with it, but not enough to unblock. I was out there for ages and my daughter came looking for me. It was really bad, because it was also painful. My daughter brought out some fizzy drink which did the trick. Still could not see for sure what the culprit was, but at least I got rid of it. I have only told my family and a couple of friends that I have a band, so it was a bit embarrasing. Must make sure this does not happen at the wedding on Friday. The last thing I swallowed I probably did not chew enough, I remember thinking it as I swallowed, but of course it was too late then. One thing that I don't understand, I thought the food stays above the band when eating and that it slowly works its way out to the rest of the stomach, and that is why we are not supposed to drink until 1 hour after foods. If that is the case, how can it be that one mouthfull not chewed enough gives immediate problem, when I would have thought other food would be sitting near the opening? |

| My hair is falling out too. I have a Blackmores slow release multi each day & am considering having a second one at night...Do you guys think it's a good idea? I think I'll make an appointment to see my dietician. I have really thick curly hair and I'm really noticing how much is falling out at the moment. Kate |

| Thanks Qui. I have not seen the dietitian for about 4 weeks but I am off to Darwin soon for a fill so will catch up with him then. I am taking elevit multivitamin every day (hope to get pregnant in a few months). Will eat some prawns love them! | Huntersuzanne, make sure you get enough protein and also take vitamin/mineral tablets every day. Did you see a dietitian? I am not sure, but I think hairloss could happen if you don't get enough protein... Have an egg flip or nuts, beans. Prawns are an excellent source of protein and are very low in fat too, but not fried or deep fried. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Hi all, well done on your great achievements and also to you walking 12km Kate! I did 7km the other day and I thought that was good! YOU GO GIRL! Well I am having a bit of a yukky day - not much wants to stay down today. Fluids are fine but I am really struggling with anything else. My doc thinks no more fills for me. (I have 6ml in a 10ml band now)...I think he's right. I seem to have these days a couple of times a week......Does anyone else have lots of restriction on some days? On a good day I can eat but only about 1/2 cup full each meal. BUT definately no bread/toast, hotchips/potato chips, steak (unless its 1-2 small bites) *sighhh* Its worth it though! |

| Hi Noose I was banded 22 July and lost 15kg in the first month. Only lost 1kg since. I have had 2 fills have 5 mls. Do not fee much restriction and can eat anything. Going for a fill again on 9 Nov. I have to fly 1000km to Darwin to see my surgeon. I was getting a bit depressed about the weight loss stopping but I do not think it is uncommon. My biggest problem at present is my hair falling out by the handful. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Well done Mel that is awesome being in the 80's how exciting. I was banded 2 weeks after you and can see the 80's not far away - I can't wait. I went to a work meeting and some people who haven't seen me since pre banding couldn't believe it when I walked in. That feedback we get is the best feeling. When they asked what I had been doing I proudly told them of the band and helpful it is to me..... | Hi Everyone, Just checking in with a little story. Yesterday was 12 weeks banded for me and I happened to be sitting in the exact hospital I was banded in early yesterday morning with my 93 yr old grandmother booking her in for surgery and my surgeon walked past to prepare for his day of banding. He stopped and looked at me with a quizzical look on his face and I told him he had banded me exactly 12 weeks ago. So we had a chat and my gorgeous old grandmother thanked him for giving me my life back etc. He was so lovely and told her that if he could help me look as good as her at her age then his job was done!!!!! It was surreal sitting there in the same place feeling like a totally different person in many ways and yet the same but happier, healthier and fitter. Some of us are having a good journey at the moment, some of us are struggling but in the end we are amazing, strong resilient individuals that have made incredibly brave decisions and no one knows what it is like to be us and what led us to this point in our lives. July Banders are the best (just a tad biased) As has been said before keep walking or exercising and drink lots of water it all helps. Tootle Loo Arn |
