Morning - Just waiting for a call from the hospital to say "Thunderbirds (or is that Thunderthighs?) ARE GO!"
My op is booked for tomorrow (9 July) and I think I have completed the pre op check list.
1. Optifast complete - or should I say OptiFART complete. That stuff makes me produce enough gas that I could quite easily propel a hot air balloon to Canberra and back.
2. Pre Op shopping complete - I bought a nice platter for my dining room table, an ear thermometer and a nice handbag. Was I supposed to buy other stuff?
3. Packing complete - I have packed 43 pairs of clean undies - something out hospitals makes me think of my mother, bus accidents and clean underpants - go figure.
4. The kids have been shipped to their grandparents and the cat is booked into the cattery - or is that the other way round?
5. I have left out my will in case I cark it on the operating table and have put in a special prayer to jesus/allah/buddha etc that if I die can I please be a size 8 long legged super model angel as it was really sukky being a short legged fatty boombah human.
I know there was something else I was suppose to do ... now what was it ..... oh yeah .....
B R E A T H!!!
See ya on the other side bandits! Lizzy xoxoxo |

This document that lots of people are worried about...
I guess I looked at it this way - my chances of dying during or after the surgery from complications are pretty minimal, however my chances of dying from not having the surgery are around 90%. I chose the good odds!
Hope that helps.

I drove on day 5. No problems - & I live in the boonies on a really cruddy dirt road full of pot holes lol.
I think I might go for a little walk around the house paddock today - feeling that good. This is day 6 post op so that should help anyone freaking out be a bit reassured.
I love the list that's been posted - looks like my list - sure it looks like a lot of other peoples too.
I'll let you know how I go with my walk later today!

For all the July bandits freaking out as the date draws near; I think it must be a normal reaction, I certainly felt the same but then I thought about how many had gone before me and survived and I told myself I was being rediculous. I also wrote a list of why I was taking this step which read something like this:
1. I have not been able to maintain weightloss in the long term EVER!
2. There may be risks with surgery but far greater health risks by remaining overweight
3. I had seen people at work who were failed dieters and this worked for them so there is no reason why it wont work for me
4. If I had to have an emergency operation at any time the risks would be significantly greater than this op if I was still so overweight
5. I have high blood pressure and am a candidate for diabetes
6. I wanted to live my life more fully without letting my weight hold me back
7. I want the tray on the plane to be able to sit flat and worry about squishing the person next to me on the flight.
8. I wanted more energy - everything was becoming an effort at the weight that I was
When I started to worry about the op I would stop and not allow my mind to focus on it and used to focus on me in a pair of size 12 jeans or shorts on holiday doing something I dont do now such as playing tennis, snorkelling, cycling etc.
I am sure everyone will be fine - in the larger scheme it is a short operation and the aneasethic time is short which makes it safer.
My friends who have had their bands for quite a while now live much fuller lives, seem to have more energy and eat smaller but not miniscule meals.
I have lost 12kg since starting down this path and 2kg post op a week ago. I am more excited by what I will lose than what I have lost - this is such a turnaround for my thinking!
Anyway, I am sure you wont need it but best of luck to all the July bandits! |

Wow, our list is really growing and it is so good to hear from those that have already been done. I am feeling more confident by the day after reading all the posts.
Kate - what day post op did you drive??? I am hoping it will all be good after 4 or 5 days....maybe I am being a little wishful.
To all our banded friends please keep the info coming of you can, it is so helpful, good luck to the next group of bandits as I am at the end of the month I am absorbing everything I can from all of you. You will all be old hands at this when I get done!!!
Nite Nite

That is an amazing loss no matter your starting weight!! I dont know i get the feeling my weight loss will be slow as it always has been even with healthy food and lots of exercise i tend to lose not much at all
Lol @ baked beans mmm soup uhm nope cant even stomach the thought but i will be soon lol as for baby gel my daughter loves it lol so i guess ill be giving that one a try soon
Optishakes make quite a bit of money on ebay so if you wanted to give it a go or sell some on here if your allowed im not sure i wouldnt mind buying some as they are so rediculously expensive lol
Well make sure you keep us updated with everything so good to hear from you! |

Hmm feel the need to point out that I had a very high start weight - 165kg, so that would be a contributing factor to the rapid weight loss. If you start out at 130kg I imagine your losses would be slower to sart with.

Hello Soon!
Yeah, I must say I'm thrilled with the taste of things a month ago would have made me gag!
I've blended baked beans into a runny soup with water and five spoons this morning filled me up until about 3pm (told you it was gag worthy) I have also had some baby food fruit gel which was a pleasant change too. I actually quite liked the Opti coffee shakes but suddely can't even stand the thought of them now! Unfortunately I have 6 unopened boxes in my pantry that I suspect will never see the inside of a glass....
