Today is day 2 of Optifast and i am starving, my stomach growled so loud you could hear it from the other side of the room lol. I hope this gets easier. My concern is that i don't alway want to feel this hungry, is it like this during the early stages. One of my problems is i don't drink enough water has any one got any suggestions for this?.The thing that is keeping me focused is i lost 1.5kg in just one day.
Last night was just a shocker for me i just could'nt sleep besides the hunger pains i could'nt stop dreaming about the surgery good thought and bad thoughts.I know the days are ticking down but it can't come soon enough.
Congrats to all though bandits who are well on their way and good luck to all the future bandits. NARELLE |

| Hi Arn - if you are using blogger you go to the ticker website make your ticker and then at the end copy the HTML script provided. Then go to your blog in the edit page click on add gadget. Choose add HTML or third party script. Paste your HTML into the box provided then save. To change the ticker you need to go to the ticker website put in your pin number (set up when you make the ticker) update your weight details or whatever, copy the HTML script again and go back to your blog click edit on your ticker and paste in the new script. |

| Hi guys n gals. well here I am, day 5 post op, and lost 2 kgs. I don't know what I was expecting, but its easier than I thought. Clothes are looser, and for the 1st time, I actually felt hunger pains. Ususally I just eat, whenever, but last night, hubby and I went shopping, and it was later than usual(for me to eat), and I had the most horrid belly pains. A glass of V8, whilst I cooked his dinner, then I put the extra vegies in the blender, with some beef stock, til it was liquid. MMMM soup never tasted soooo good, lol, I was famished. Good luck to the future bandits. If I can do it, so can you.cheers, Robin |

(I meant to post this in here but put it in General Chat)
Hi all. Hang in there all those on liquids or Optifast - those stages will pass quicker than you imagine. Day 8 post-op and I got the green light for mushies today, which was unexpected. I will have salmon and mash for dinner tonight (this has been the meal I have been craving most pre- and post-op). Despite my enthusiasm today for getting off liquids, I would prefer to have had some appetite suppression. Perhaps like others, I sometimes irrationally feel I will somehow be immune to the effects of this lapband and not lose any more weight and this has been heightened by my appetite returning full strength a couple of days after the operation. I guess that's a natural feeling for anyone who is a veteran of many failed diet and exercise regimes in the past. Does anyone else feel the same? |

Hi everyone
just wanted to mention to any of the group that are having problems with optifast, i told my dietician straight up i could not cope with the optifast taste so he said i could go on celebrity slim or tony ferguson and use there bars for a change as well. I have noticed noone else mentioned any other shake except for optifast, so thought it would help in leading up period and even after.
As far as surgery was concerned i don't think anyone goes in without worries and concerns, like i said i cried all the way in and all the way out, but i know as much as it is hard we need to get healthy so we can avoid any of the obstacles that extra weight brings.
its just a huge adjustment that we all will get used to - bring on mashed foods i never thought i would look forward to that.... |

| Nangala, You'll be just fine, you just have to find that little voice inside your head that keeps on pushing you through.I am also worried about the future and my lifestyle change, especially when unfortuately the Aussie way on living is entertaining and B.B.Q where a big slab of steak often gets thrown on.I know we have to make a few sacrafices but i just keep reminding myself of my health & family who need me and i want to see my 2 daughters grow up.So when it comes down to it i just think it's only food look what i'm getting in return.I am here for you just like many others we can all do it, we just need to stay focused and think positive. Keep smiling :-) NARELLE |

I was 165kg & have been banded for 12 days. I was in a flat out panic in the few days prior to surgery - as are most people if you read this thread you'll see you're normal!
Prior to banding I had the same concerns as you for my long term ability to live with the band. Again, if you look at the threads here, you'll see what you are feeling is normal.
Just give yourself a bit of a break. You're doing what you need to do and you should be proud of yourself for making this decision. If you don't have someone who's "on your side" in your daily life, you'll still have people here who are, and are going thru it with you.
Chin up & good luck for tomorrow, be sure yu let us know how you go.

Hi Everyone,
After reading everyone's posts tonight I have been reminded how much there is to think about having this procedure. Whilst the constant is that we all have to lose weight and get healthy, the journey up to and through it is so different for all of us.
Today I had a cardiologist appointment - we are having everything checked out before the op - I am glad I have decided to have the op, but wish I hadn't allowed myself to get in this predicament in the first place. Stuff I will have to talk about with the psychologist on Thursday!!!
Good luck everyone - we are an awesome month!!!!

Hi everyone,
I am having my band in 2 weeks (27th July 09). I am very excited and have to do 3 weeks of optifast beforehand. i am now on day 10 (I will be glad when thats over).
I am a bit worried about the surgery though as I have very severe sleep apnoea and have been told that I could have some problems coming out of the anesthetic (respitory failure). The anethatist has said they will send me to ICU to be watched after the op. I'm a bit worried and I hope they remember to send me there! I am having my surgery in Wagga. The doc is reluctant to put the CPAP machine on me when I come out of the op in case I swallow some air into my newly created stomach.
Has anyone else had this problem?? |

Hello,
Im 170 kgs and I am getting banded on Wednesday.....
Very nervous about the op but more nervous about the changing of eating lifestyle for the rest of my life. SCARY for me with so many bad emotional eating problems/habits.
Anyone feel the same way or is it just me with this problem??
Couldnt even follow optifast 100 % for 2 weeks......feeling a bit depressed just thinking about it.
Please if anyone would like to chat with me feel free too. |

| Hi Guys. great to hear so many successful stories of July bandits already. To those on Optifast or soon to start, I have now been on it for 6 full days and I have to say I am not minding it. My dietitian gave me the option of having Sustagen Hospital Formula. I bought that because my mum works in a chemist and they don't sell optifast. The first few were not the best, but now I quite like it. The trick is that you need to use really, really COLD water. I have also been putting in some ice cubes. I shake it up in one of my sons drink bottles, but today I bought a proper shaker that I can mix in and then drink. I almost look forward to it. So I would suggest to anyone who is having a problem with the Opti to try Sustagen. I have choc flavor, but it also comes in vanilla. I have also been reading about peoples troubles with constipation. My dietitian recommended Fibresure. It is clear, tasteless and can be added to everything. I had it in my shake tonight and it made absolutely no difference to the taste of the shake. Off to the psychologist tomorrow . . . very worried about never being allowed to leave! ! ha-ha! |

| Hi Kate - gawd how scary! Hope you are ok. There is a lot to get used to isn't there? I think this band will be a great tool to help us stop and think before we stick anything in our mouths. I am a 'gulper' of water - I can easy chuck a glass of water down in about 2 seconds - gotta stop that or I might explode! Pretty scary way to learn the lesson tho! Lizzy |

Hi Kate,
It is very unlikely that you have done any damage, if you have recovered from the blockage. I dont think the band is that sensitive, just take it easy for the next few days. It's a hard lesson we all have to learn chew and eat slowly. So don't worry.
Cheers Shaz :) |
