Hi Everyone,
The girls and I have just returned home from Harry Potter with 2 other families, what a fun night - but what a challenge sitting around listening to people eating the whole movie!!!
Anyway - had my psychologist and dietician appointment today at the Clinic - fantastic - so thorough, dug up some good stuff from my past about my eating habits etc. Lots of good handouts and then the big one - Michelle the dietician said NO MORE DIET COKE OR FIZZY DRINK EVER!!!!!!! Yes I am shouting - OMG - I love diet coke and a G & T under the palm tree on holidays!!!
I said "never, ever" and she said that Diet coke is especially bad as it leeches the calcium out of your bones and teeth and the acid eats away at the band eventually, let alone the effects of the gas......
So now I am thinking no diet coke, no burgers, no steak - think I will need a whole session with the psych about the DC addiction!!!!! lol.....
Anyway, tomorrow is the pre op visit at the hosp for bloods, ECG etc etc - then on the down hill run ......
Hope everyone is well - just had to share my woes!!!!
Nite Nite

Well good luck with and I hope it all runs as smooth as mine did. I couldn't cop that Opti muck and fortunately the Doc reservedly told me lean meat and fish would get me by,well that's as I understood it so that's what I did and it all went off as what I could only describe as perfect, If not for the little Key hole cuts I wouldn't know I'd had it.
So mate keep positive get your hospital form happening and I understand fully what you mean when you say it's all becoming "very real" and sadly something you got to do but get it done shove it in the Post Box and make sure you get to the hospital on time. If it was me I would ring your Surgeon and see if he can tell you what time you could expect to be going in and hopefully they'll be able to tell you to save you sitting around for hours on end waiting as that does your head in.... Good luck... |

Oooow... I got the letter from the hospital today which I have to fill in and send back... 2 weeks to go and it is my time (last on the list for July). Have to be in the hospital 7am, so I presume I will be done fairly early in the day. I got a bit of a touch of nerves when I saw the letter, it is making it more real. Filling in the details tomorrow, and sending off the cheque to the surgeon, so then all should be ready to go.
I am doing allright on the Optifast, but ran out of my normal vegies today, so I had some pumpkin, I really enjoyed that, I know it is not one of the allowed vegies, but I thought it better to have that than give in to temptation and have something really bad.
The list is getting shorter, good luck to all of you that go before me (which is really all of you left on the list), and hope the ones alreay done are doing well and feeling great. It is a big step, but I am happy to have made the decision, and feel that for me it is the right thing. According to the letter received today, I also have to make an appointment with a dietitian, so I will do that tomorrow. |

Congratulations You do well. You did very well indeed.
What a great inspiration to anyone considering the procedure, but not sure whether to take the plunge. I am sure you have put a few minds at ease. And yes, you will never look back....I was banded a year ago, and 27 kgs later, and nearly at goal, have found it to be the most worthwhile expedtion, and intensly rewarding.
Keep up the positive posting, so that others too may be rest assured that they are making the right decision.
Cheers Sandi. |

Hey all, I finally took the BIG step and was banded last Friday 10th of July.I had the surgery in the Calvary Hospital in Adelaide by a very professional surgeon.I took out my Private Health with the intention of being banded in July last year and with many mind changes through the past 12 months "will I or won't I?" decided yes I will. The worst part of it all for me apart from waiting in my room (nearly 5.5 hours)was when they finally came and wheeled me off to theatre.Thankfully I had my wonderful caring partner by my side right up to the theatres entrance doors. And as the doors the fear set in! what I was worried about I don't really know, but after the many different faces all swarming around you advising who they were and which part of this procedure they all played a part in a quick swap from the bed onto their work bench the needle in your hand and a rubber plunger (well that's what it felt like)put over your nose the next thing BINGO I woke up in a room with several others lined up like Used Cars in a car lot.
From there it was back to my room and a few plugs up your nose another connection in my hand and off to sleep. I even got up at 3.00 am when a nurse came in to check on me for a pee. The confusion rather funny when she handed me the special stainless Tea Pot but I insisted I'd do it the conventional way ie: stand up and take aim (with 100% accuracy). She asked how my pain was and upon assuring her it was minimal she convinced me to having some panadol in my drip. And it wasn't panadeine forte as I have reaction to that just the normal mild strength one. Then 8 .30 it was off to drink that white glug a couple of Xrays and back to my room to wait for my surgeon to give the all ok and then i was out of there. And have not had a single pain killer since I left Hospital.
If any one out there is worrying about having the op all I can say is GO FOR IT you won't look back... |

Hey all I'm 2 weeks banded today!
I consider that I have had a fairly easy time of it, however having said that I had pain, I needed to sleep a lot, felt nausious & dizzy & lived on Panadol, Senna & De Gas!
So I think it's safe to say we all need to remember that we HAVE had sugery and need to rest & recuperate.
I didn't feel anything close to "normal" until day 7.
Be kind to yourselves & YAY for us for doing it!

Hi bek I am also still quite nauseous i am day 6, i just found out that i should not have been prescribed anti inflammatorys after op so that explains some of it and the bad reflux i have had, but surgeon advised still normal to be very sore and nauseous. I suppose we are all different, but i am there with you on it just not quite as bad

I am now 6 days post op and to be honest I would have thought the nausea would have passed by now. My doc gave me some wafer things to put on tongue supposed to help with nausea but not having much luck. I can only manage to be standing up for about ten minutes then have to lay down again I feel really faint. By the way don't want to scare any future bandits because I do not regret having it done at all and I guess everyones experience is different. I have lost about 3.5kgs in 6 days so that might have something to do with. Hope everyone is going ok!
Good luck to all current and future bandits!
The July group is fantastic.

Hi Am,
When i saw Dr first up he told me that my health insurer would probably not cover me as my BMI was not huge (it's 31)- that did not stop me I got it in writing that all was okay to go ahead. When I saw Lee, she also mentioned that Dr Chan was a little apahensive about doing it. So al in all I am hoping that he does make me very comfortable about it tomorrow.

Dont worry I am day 4 of opti and it does get easier. As said its not really going to make a huge impact if you slip up a little I know I have but hey its not like you ate a 1000 calaries of something but I have found the hunger has passed and the bars are more filling for me so I would recommend those.
I have kept busy and avoided the panrty but its hard when you making the kids lunches and stuff.
My 4 year olds been very supportive giving me compliments like well done mum for having your soup!
Have a good day everyone xx |

Thanks guys, am feeling better today.
If anyone is suffering from the wind pains Mintec helps, you get it from the chemist, it is a little capsule and it is the same as drinking the peppermint water. And surprisingly rubbing tigerbalm on your tummy (obviously avoiding the wounds) helps pass wind as well.

Oh Narelle, Don't beat yourself up you haven't failed, just had a minor set back. I am on Day 2 of Opti and last night at about midnight and this morning at around 5 I was awoken with the a growling stomach that could be heard miles away. last night I locked myself upstairs in my bedroom when my kids went to bed to avoid the pantry......I really understand how you are feeling. Let's remember some surgeons don't even require their patients go on Opti so - I am sure if you get back on the straight and narrow today you will be fine.
WE are all with you - take care and good luck today.
Cheers

| I failed!!! Only day 2 of Optifast and my hunger got the better of me.I had the shakes and vegies but the hunger pains got too bad so i had a sandwich and some snacks. Are the bars/soups/mousse/ a more filling option.I'm getting nervous that my date is getting closer and i haven't done the right thing, is it too late???can i repair the damage i've done??? I know people have been writting that it gets easier but when you really enjoy food this is really difficult.I know i have to think to myself forget about yesterday today is a brand new day keep focused and get back on track.Today i have to go to Bunbury to see the Anethatist so i'll just have to stay busy and not think about food. hi guys
i am day 5 now and i also am very sore still like lizzy says and enjoying a nanna nap before my husband goes back to work. I also havent lost much on the scales which is a real drag (there are other words i would like to use but we have to be clean) it is frustrating considering how much I am not eating. I am also quite nauseous in the mornings, i think it is from the anti inflammatory tabs, is everyone taking them still.

Well done Mel - congratulations! Get a heat/wheat bag for the shoulder/wind pain - it works wonders. Also dont forget to take pain killers - it helps.

Hi all,
Well I am now a bandit! For those of you who don't know I was banded on Monday.
I had to be at the hospital at 11am and didnt go in until 3:30pm, it was a long wait. I was in recovery for a little longer than usual because my heart rate went up to 142 and I was apparently grey!
I was discharged at 10am the next day. And since I have not been feeling very flash. The pain at the sites are sore and I have a bit of swelling and bruising but it is no where as bad as the shoulder pain or wind pain that I am having. It is very uncomfortable and painful. I know its different for everyone but I wanted to share my story.
Even though I am in a bit of pain I do NOT have one single regret!
Will keep you updated on my progress!

Ha Ha Lizzy - Nana Nap - I love it and I love them. I plan on having a few of them in the following weeks. I don't think you are a weakling, their are no prizes for pushing yourself too hard. Rest when you need to and look after you.
Sleep well
