Congrats - Day 14 - that is amazing. What is your first mushie meal going to be????
That is a really good analogy about you r stomach exploding if you mess up - I have similar thoughts and images of unimaginable pain if I do the wrong thing - I think that is what will motivate me to not succumb to the head hunger (wishful thinking!!!). Last night I felt like I was a split personality - every ad on TV seemed to have food - pizza, burgers, KFC - and the little voice in my head was telling me I really wanted it and to go get some. In the end I turned the TV off and went to bed - I think it was the worst food craving day yet!!!!
Bring on next wednesday I say.

Yah - go Mike and Diane!
Well I am DAY 14 - yes, count it 14, say it again 14, Fourteen, 1 and 4 - 14!Yippee do da day! That stage has gone SO FAST.
Terratime29 - I think waiting for the band does your head in - its the 'not knowing' that makes you nervous. You will be fine!
You know what day 14 means - mushies! I haven't had any probs doing the fluid stage. I have this vision in my head that my stomach will explode if I don't do exactly what is prescribed - it has worked a treat and I havent messed up once. Feel free to use it!
And Arn ... I know what you mean. It feels like I had my girls only yesterday and they are already taller and bossier than me (yes my 12 year old is taller gawd!!!!) Lizzy |

| Hi all, For anyone interested, I have actually created a group on Facebook, for July Bandits. I have made it a closed group, for anyone who doesn't want too many people to know of their op, just yet. In the search bar, in Facebook, type in July Bandits, or click on this link. ( hopefully it will work) cheers, Robin http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=99232547861& ref=search P.S. If it doesn't appear as a link, copy and paste it. |

hi everyone, was banded monday 20th, all is going well, just a bit of shoulder pain, but panodol is fixing that ok, fluids are going well, except kept waking up last night really thirsty. Have set aside this week to just rest up and recover, so far so good. My first appointment with surgeon is 20th August.

Thanks everyone for your "children travelling alone" stories - I know we have to let them go and she has done that flight 100 times with adults - but I think watching her walk off on her own this morning just made me realise that she is not a baby anymore.....sigh!!!
I have spoken to her twice and she is having a fab time with her grandparents.
Also - 1 week on Opti today and exactly 4 kg's gone - yea......if I have said that before I apologise but I am so pleased!!!

Hi Mike,
Good to hear from you - your menu for the day has reminded me to go and buy icy poles to suck on. Glad to hear you are OK now - it's all a bit scary. Take it easy and be kind to yourself.

Good on you Mike, wishing you a speedy recovery. It will all be worth it in the end.
My turn is in the end of the month, aaawww gaaawd... it is only the end of next week.... cannot believe how the time has gone so quickly. I am starting to have butterflies when I think about it. On the weekend I will have to stock up on liquids to have after op... and anything else that I might need. Looking forward to getting it over with. |

Hello, well as of yesterday 7pm I was banded. Pain was intense in recovery. Got better quickly.... Was up and about 2 hours post op. Had a bad day today, barium was not good. Had wind pain, although no sholder tip pain, so that's great. I have been on free fluids today and am tolerating them well now (not so well in the beginning of day). Have been taking panadiene soulable regullarly. Today I have had; water, apple juice, pain relief and icy poles. I am very satisfied hunger wise...
I was regretting this, this morning but am now ok.
Good luck to all.

| arn66au, my daughter travelled half across the world on her own (assisted passage) at 16 to visit family. When she arrived at Heathrow, the stewardess asked her if she would be ok to find her way on her own to the next flight (different terminal) as they were so busy with elderly passangers that needed assistance, my daugher said yes, and off she went on her own..... I nearly had "kittens" when I found out, but all went well, and on her way back to Australia she did it totally on her own. So no, I don't think you are a bad mother, we have to trust kids with a little responsibility, even if it is hard to let them go sometimes. |

you are not the worst mother, your daughter will benfit greatly from this experience.
I had heard of a woman who in New York, let her 9 year old son travel from point A to point B on the New York subway alone.
I think thats irresponsible. |

Hi Lizzy,
Lol, I love my sleep but I had to leave at 6 am to get my youngest daughter (11) to the airport. She flew up to the Gold Coast on her own to stay with my parents - I felt like the worst mother in the world letting her go with the nice stewardess from virgin. But she got there safely and was in the pool having a swim not long ago!!!
I have just been to the shops but had to leave as the food smells were really getting to me today!!!!
7 days until Op day - eek.... |

I have found this article on shoulder/wind pain. Might be of interest to all the windy ones out there.

Hi Kate,
I was banded July 10, 3 years ago. Sound like good old wind pain to me!!!!! My suggestion would be to keep taking a mild laxitive like Coloxy with Senna on bedtime for the next 4 or so days, until you actually get your pooing into check. With the huge change in your diet, wind and constipation goes a bit with the territory.
WAlking is great and possibly you need to drink more water. I can only drink room temp water..... but can suck ice, how odd!!
DeGas, is not a cure all, but it can give some relief. I always use the chewable one, and suck one while I takea quick walk around the yard. Bending and stretching will make you pass wind..... so get out and hang the washing and see "if you trumpet blows" heheheheheheh
Altenate to the laxative, you could try prune juice, pear or kiwi juice etc. I find that juices will send me straight away, but not help get me into a routine. Go the mild laxative.
Oh ... and for the sore bum, don't muck around, get to the chemist and buy some over the counter Proctocedyl. IT has anesthetic in it, will give you some relief. Also a bit of anti inflamatory like Nurofin will help you...... or sit on your heat pack. And I know all of this becuase I would say my Mum has had terrible "roid rage" as we call it, on and off for years. I am at her right now to go and get them fixed up!
All the best Kate,
D
PS: Since I was banded I do not burp. I dont' dirnk fizzy drinks I guess. You will need to work out what triggers your wind pain. Obviously over eating or more commanly eating too quickly will do it, but I have only just now realised the peas give me crippling shoulder tip pain!!! Took 3 years to work out what it was. |

Ok so I have unlady like questions... Hope we're all friends here....
I've never had wind pain in my adult life, but I hope I have it now. I've been constipated (unlady like #1)and have now developed haemoroids (sp?) & unlady like #2. So I took Senna last night and had a small bowel movement today (unlady like # 3)By mid afternoon today I developed pain in my left side & I think it's around where my port is. There is no redness or sign of infection. It feels like a stitch from running only over a larger area. Is that what wind pain feels like??? I took 2 Degas but have had not passed wind (#4 for those still counting).
My Surgen is 300km away. I have an appointment with him for my 1st fill next tuesday (1 week).
I feel fine otherwise - no temp, no pain anywhere else- not even my right side, I went for a walk but it didn't help much...At what should I call my surgen? Am I just a sooky la la wuss? I've been banded 19 days.
Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Hi Anna - we're twins!
I'm a bit like you - Can pretty much eat what ever I want. I will have my 1st fill on tuesday next week so I'll let you know how I go. 8 Weeks seems like a looong time. Since the bread episode I've been absolutely fine until this afternoon....I need some advice & will be posting a few Q's I need A's to!
Stop eating buckets of chips! Or at least share them with me lol!( I like mine with gravy...mmmm chips & gravy)
Pretty sure this qualifies as a food fantasy!
Keep in touch band buddy.

Hi Di,
It is great that I haven't cheated and it seems OK and then Bam - horrible head hunger. My kids have been great and my eldest daughter (14) has been preparing some meals so I don't have to look at it.
It is great to see the scales moving downwards lets hope it becomes a regular occurance.
Take Care
