Hi all,

Good luck to all those being banded soon. Can't believe that July is almost over!

Well I'm day 15 post op and am going ok apart from a little hiccup along the way of severe heart burn the other day which I took a heartburn tablet for and before thinking that it might need to be cut or crushed up I took it and it got stuck! Not much fun for the next couple of days.....but that has all settled now!

I have to say that I am still not hungry at all, I still cant stomach anything in the mornings, so I eat about lunch time and depending on how I'm feeling I have something for dinner but its usually only a little bit if anything. The upside is that I've lost 12.5kilos from my starting weight before optifast. So thats made me happy!!

How is everyone else going?

Mel

Morning All,

Off I go to work today for the last time before being banded tomorrow, it's a strange feeling. 6.2 kilo's lost on Opti so far so hopefully the liver has shrunk nicely.

Qui, how are you feeling?? Hope you are on the mend.

Hope everyone has a good day and is healing nicely if banded.

Cheers

Arn :)

Do you think that nerves mite be settin in. Optifast is great for very quick weight loss, but it would get very boring, you would not be able to sustain it and you will be back where you started.my thought was that i am taking thae easy way out, i should be ableto do it myself, but 25 years of dieting shows me that i cant.Have the surgery mate and yo will be able to enjoy normal foods for the rest of your life not just optislim.

Hello creature_2484, thanks for that, I will ring the doctor tomorrow and tell him. It is still 3 days and a night to go, so hopefully I will be better by then. I don't feel sick, but I am worried. It would be so disappointing if I had to defer this now.

Hey Qui, I had a cold on the day i went for the surgery. I rang on the Friday before (had surgery on a monday) to tell them and they said they would assess me at the hospital.

The anesthetic guy will ensure your lungs are ok on the day. Mine were ok- even tho i was still unwell.

Generally they dont cancel unless your lungs have an infection. Why dont you just ring the DR and let him know.

Cheers and Good Luck

Hi Sarah, I am in Melbourne and going to The Avenue. I feel ok, but have been sneezing today and got a runny nose today, had a cough over the weekend, but that is better. I think it is only a cold, and more a head cold than a chesty one. If not better tomorrow, I will ring the doctor just to be on the safe side.

Hello Di No they haven't said anything about vitamins. Did you get a pack when you first went to see them? In it has some vitamin suggestions ie Supradyn +5ml plesmet syrup or Fergon Elixir. I checked at the chemist and Fergon is no longer made. You seem to be going great on Opti, I'm just okay have lose a couple of kilos but it's a lose not gain. Good luck for Friday and hope to see you there.

Hi Narelle. I had my op Thursday and was released Friday.
I am having trouble with the sip sip sipping lol.
Pureed fruit is gross lol, Easiest I found is the v-8 juice, but am still finding it hard to do the nutritional fluids x 6 plus the sips every 10 mins of other fluid.

Hi everyone,
I am now a bandit "WOW".I had my op on friday afternoon and was discharged Saturday at 10am.My op went well but my recovery has been slower than i thought. I know it has only been nearly 3 days may i'm just excepting too much.I am suffering from quite intense shoulder tip pain which i'm using a heat pack on, this seems to give me some relief, and wind problems which i'm taking mintec for.The main other problem is i am STARVING this has come as a shock because i really thought i would not feel like eating. I am being good though i know how inportant it is not to stretch the band.I hoping this stage will pass.I relise the recovery will take some time so to all the people about to go through, be kind to yourself, and take your time in your recovery.NARELLE

Hi Everyone

Well todays D day for me.I need to be at the hosptial for 10am and am meant to be in for 1pm op. I am staying relatively calm and slept not to badly I have a very slight cough and cold so I hope that wont affect things to much. I dont feel unwell or anything. I had those if I can lose weight on opti thoughts but then I dont know if I could keep the weight off and this is where the band can help.

Good Luck to everyone else this week.
And to those recently banded hope your recovery is going well.
Hope to see you all soon xx Leanne

Good luck to the remaining bandsters to be for this week (including me for Friday).

It's day 10 of Opti for me and I'm down 5kg. I'm really happy with my efforts so far, I've even been to a birthday party and knocked back cake (that would be a first for me). I do however think I'm having those pre-op concerns again. I've been thinking things like "if I can lose weight on Opti why don't I just continue with it and not have the op. Maybe I can do it this time". Did anyone else have this thought pre-op?

Question for dnwaiting.....
Has Dr Anderson or Dr Yaeger spoken to you about vitamin supplements post op?

Take care July Bandits.

Hi guys well I am back home from Darwin and feeling fine. I was banded on Wed (22nd) and the only pain I have had is some shoulder pain. I am a bit tired today as I overdid the shopping in Darwin yesterday. I have not been really hungry but my brain wants me to eat everything in site. Good luck to the last of the July group this week. Hullo to everyone - I have been reading with interest everyone's comments and progress - it is really encouraging to hear so many positive responses - keep it up! I am scheduled to have my procedure on Thursday 30/7 at Dudley Private Hospital in Orange, do I qualify as a July Bander? Visited the dietician yesterday, been on Optifast and greens only for last two weeks, have lost 6 kilos and am really pleased, practising my sipping and slow chewing, what a brave new world!

Re:Anyone getting banded in July 09? Reply to this message
Most of my pain was caused by 'wind' from when they pump gas and air into your abdominal cavity to help make room to do the op. Panadol will not help this pain. They told me to walk as much as possible, but a nurse auntie of mine said to try peppermint tablets or pepperming tea. I have 'mintec' tablets 3 times a day which i got from chemist and have peppermint tea. You basically have to burp or 'fart' (which the p'mint makes you do) to get rid of the air and thus, pain. soda water is supposed to be good, just dont drink too quick or that will bloat you up too. I started tablets y'day and have only had 1 tea and pain is much better today. Worth giving them a go. i know how painful it is so i feel for you. Best of luck

Hi thee, i'm another July lapbander, i had my op last weds, i too had to be in there at 7.00am, they started preping me about 9.30, in and out of the ward with this and that, I was taken into the op waiting area where i had towait for about 15 minutesand i actually had my op aout 11.00. i too took a magazine to keep mind off. it was surprising that i was quiet calm, kept telling myself to take deep breaths and to have a positive attitude. The surgeon had a quick chat to me and said, lap band is the main op we do here, you are going down a well worn path, so that made me relax even more. I was told to have a normal tea the night b4 so i treated my self to a kentucky drumstick, small coleslaw and a real coke. No chips thou. Good luck, keep in mind what my surgeon said, it is becoming a well worn path.
