Can you contact your surgeon & ask for a fill early? I had my 1st fill yesterday 0.5 ml(4 weeks post op today) and found out that I already had 2.5 mls in there from the day of surgery - that's why I havent been hungry until recently. So my total is now 3ml. I have been able to eat anything & everything too (except the bread incident we've discussed). In the book by Prof O'brien (love that book)it clearly states that the 1st fill is at approx 4 weeks.
I have 2 suggestions tho: Maybe you don't have as much to lose? Or maybe you also have some fill in already from the date of surgery?
Don't be dispondent - it has worked for so many people & it will work for you too.

Hi all,
I'm day 18 post op. Is anyone else feeling really low in energy? I'm not eating much because I'm still not hungry so I'm thinking that it might be the cause. I am sore on my right side but I think I pulled a muscle trying to get out of the bath last night! lol....it's not sore anywhere around my cuts.
Anyway thats my update, and 13.5kgs down so I'm happy with that!
How's everyone else going?

I know we are bringing up the rear of the July group, but don't forget us.
It's great to hear how everyone is going - it has really enabled me to see how we all react so differently.
ONE MORE SLEEP. YAY.

Hi everyone - 10 days post op here. Took my dressings off as instructed, but they dont look ready, so I redressed them, will wait a bit longer. on the good side - this morning i packed away all my size 26 and 24 and got out the size 22 and 20s, im not throwing the good ones away, I will wait and cut them down and resew them.
Still tender where the port is, especially annoying that the button of my jeans is right at that spot, have to keep them undone.

Hi terratime29
I am also 1 week post op today.
Yes, I am looking forward to being off the liquid stage, best I can handle is v-8 juice. I have no idea what I have lost because I have weighted off the scales for ages. For that i will have to wait until I visit my dr. or surgeon, on the upside lol my dr moonlights as one of the guys who adjusts the band for my surgion so -) |

| Hey just wanted to say how much better I am feeling today. I am 1 week post op and would not wish my last week on anyone. Was much worse than expected but now really started to feel good. Still got a little shoulder pain but each day it gets that little bit better. Hoping it will be gone by the end of the weekend. Also only sore around the port site now and internally I dont feel so sore. On the upside I am now 5.3kgs lighter than 3 weeks ago (2 weeks opti and 1 post op). Not at all hungry but still looking forward to finishing the liquid phase |

Hi Annie
I am only one week post op and dont feel any hunger, maybe this will come as I heal. Remember the time after surgery and before the 1st fill is for healing. Dont stress about it. Once you start your fills I am sure things will improve. |

Hi Annie,
I actually feel the opposite to you, I have been banded over 2 weeks ago and I'm not hungry at all. Is there any chance of getting your fill earlier than another 4 weeks? Maybe once you have a fill you wont feel the way you are? 8 weeks after surgery is a long time to wait for a fill isnt it? I have mine in 2 weeks which will be 4 weeks after surgery.
Maybe you should give your doc a call and let him know how you're feeling.
Hope it all gets better for you

Hi everyone who has been banded in July.
I'm wondering if anyone else is feeling like me? Despondent!!!!
I have been banded for 4 weeks, have been hungry since day 4, have discovered I can eat anything and everything.(But dont)
Apart from having scars on my stomach and a lump the size of the bottom of a lge duck's egg where I presume my port is, it's like nothing has happened.
I really thought I would feel a tiny bit of restriction, not feel so hungry. I drink plenty of water, have increased my protein and my 1st fill is still 4 weeks away.
I kind of wish I'd had the vertical sleeve.
I'm usually pretty positive but right now I feel like a damn good cry .. but that wont help will it.
I'd love to hear from anyone who might have experienced this & what they have done.
Thanks for reading my whinge.

Hi Mel,
I have sort of resigned myself to the thought that I will have to wait 2 weeks. I felt much better this morning, but during the day at work I was coughing a fair bit. I am home now and feel better again, but still have the occasional coughing "fit". I am hoping that I will improve a bit more by tomorrow...but I am not holding my breath. If I cannot be done, then it is better to defer, no use risking problems just to get it done now. Anyway, I don't think the anaesthetist would take any risks, so I will go by whatever she says. |

I hope you are feeling better and it is all ok for Friday, will be dissapointing for you if it doesnt. But its better that they dont do it if you are not well.
Let us know what happens.

Well done, Mel, it is a nice feeling with double digits.
When I have my band, which is supposed to be Friday, but might not happen due to my cough, but when I eventually do have it, my first goal will be to become overweight LOL... (rather than Obese that is). |

I'm back from banding! Went in at 5pm, operation at 8pm and discharged at 10am this morning. Just woken up from a nap and had my first drink at home. All good so far.(touch wood). Western Private Hospital are past masters at this procedure and have the whole thing from admission to discharge and all points in between down to a fine art.
One more day of opti and it would have got violent! |

Hi Impea,
Not sure about the coughing, I didnt cough but everyone is different. I always think that its better to be safe than sorry and give the clinic a call, it cant hurt.

Hi Everyone,
Feeling better this morning, so if I keep improving like this, then maybe Friday will still be on. I hope so, it would be so disappointing to have to keep waiting (and staying on Optifast... getting really sick of Optifast now). My lungs feel clearer, I have been using my asthma meds more, which seems to have helped, or maybe it is the antibiotics that have kicked in, whatever it is, there is definitely an improvement. So Fingers crossed it will be ok.
The July list is nearly completed now, Ariane today, Debbie, Di and myself to go. Good luck all. |
