For those on the mushy stage I found potato, leek and bacon soup to be great, can make it runnier if you need to. If anyone wants the recipe let me know and I will post it.

I am on solids now and today I really wanted a piece of bread, but I didnt want to take any chances so I had a piece of toast with vegemite and cheese. It was very very yummy and I had no problems with it at all, toast is very easy to chew to a paste. I was very full after one piece of toast, but I left the crusts at the edges!

Hi to all Julyites
Felt my port for the first time this morning when I moved in bed, so now Ive been running my hand over the spot all day, its quite amazing, lol.

Bella - lol I have never worn a bikini and I doubt I ever will, but I am looking forward to lying on the beach and snorkeling on the holiday we have booked for the end of the year.
Julie - I read a tip on here that I have been using with success, get a tin of the chunky soups and tin of baked beans for extra protein, puree them together and thin if needed. Ive been experimenting with all sorts of different flavors, even added chilli sauce to one.
I have a special breakfast to go to Friday, so I thought I had better experiment to see if I could eat eggs yet, scrambled eggs went down very nicely at lunch time, so I should be ok on friday.

Hi all, I am now 12 days post op and can not beleive how much better I am feeling in the second week compared to this time last week. Went and had my dressings removed. Port scar a bit big but others only tiny and all healing well. Have also been told to start mushies now so good buy to all the liquids only. Had a small bowl of runny porridge this morning which really filled me up. Little unsure of what foods to eat at the mushie stage. Hoping the scales keep moving in the rigth direction. 6.5kg gone (or as I look at it = to 13 tubs of margarine of my but).

Just glad we are all over the surgery and on the mend.

Bella I hope it all goes well for you also.

huntersuzanne I am looking at only having my band for 6 months or so also. I am seeing my surgeon for my first fill next thursday so I will see what he has to say about it. But I did speak to my GP yesterday (who is also my obstitrician) and he said that he thinks it will be fine to start trying after being banded for 6 months, and he has had 2 women in the last little while get pregnant and have babies with bands and all went fine, so that makes me feel a little better about it.

I hope to hear from both of you on your progress and what is happening on the baby front, will be nice to know that others are going through the same thing, not just with the band but with getting pregnant.

Take care
Mel

Hi July Bandits - just checking in. All seems good - touch wood. I was banded on the 9th. The wounds have all healed nicely. I discussed scarring with my doctor and said that I didnt want to look like I had had a knife fight with my hommies so I only have 4 really small cuts. I have a tiny one that hidden by my bra, another tiny one on my right side hip. My port scar is inside my belly button and you cant see it. The only one that you can see is just under my left rib and only about 2.5cm long. I still get twinges with this one if I stretch and move it or eat too much. I asked the doctor about this and he explained that we have had our stomach muscles cut so there will be scarring which may hurt for a little while.

I too have a really gurgly stomach - god knows what is happening in there - sounds like an alien is gonna bust out any second! Anybody got any clues why our guts are so gurgly?

I am just about finished mushies and will start solids on Thursday. I havent vomited yet - mind you went to see a stoopid movie called "Cherie" and that nearly made me chuck - bad acting, bad everything! I will weigh in on Thursday (my bandit birthday) and update the list then.

Buso.gecko - I hope you are ok. I read on another thread that you arent travelling too well. Please let us know how you are - am thinking about you.

Well done all. Take care Lizzy.

HI Arn66au
Yes I also logged in at work from home yesterday morning. I had set my 'out of office' only for one day as I was so sure I would be sent home, so I had to change that. Also, had to redirect emails that need actioning for the ones thinking I was only away 1 day so they did not worry about redirecting themselves. Just so that there is nothing urgent that does not get actioned sitting in my inbox. After having spent about half an hour with this, I was quite exhausted too, sitting straight up like that. So going to work would not be possible, I can see that now. I think we need to take it easy and recover properly first.

Re:Anyone getting banded in July 09? Reply to this message
Good Morning July Bandits,

How is our merry little group today? Today is 5 days post op and all is going well. My incisions are itchy, but good, very neat and tidy. My surgeon said all the samr things that Qui's said. I am still having Opti shakes 3 x per day as my nutritionist said and then I just top up on water, tea, an ice block etc. Have only had soup once or twice but not really interested. I do get hungry, but it is almost on cue for the shakes and like Qui my tummy runbles really loudly.

Would really like some vegemite toast - that would be awesome.

I sat up to do a few work emails yesterday and that was exhausting - had to have a lie down afterwards - I think it was the sitting and concentrating that did me in.

I getting excited as I can see double digits are in sight - yesterday I was 8.2 kilos down since starting Opti - amazing. Haven't checked today but it is so nice to see the scales going down.

Looking forward to another day on the lounge and looking after myself - loving the travel and living channel.

Have a good one

Arn :)

Hi Slimmerme38, we were done on the same day. Funny how different it can be from place to place, surgeon to surgeon. I was wheeled into theatre, but I was on a ventolin pump from the moment when surgery was ok'ed to go ahead (due to my cough), did not really have any time to get nervous as I had expected to be sent home, so when I was not, it all happened pretty quickly. Also, I don't have any visible stiches, they are all disolvable ones so no need to remove anything. The surgeon said to keep an eye out on the wounds so that if they get red, hot, or any pus, to call him straight away (not to go to the GP), but if all ok, to remove the bandages on day 7. They are all looking good, except the port one where I have a massive bruise. I am getting a little itchy now, but I guess that is just normal healing. I cough a lot, so that hurts, I was really sore in the muscles up until today, but is is rapidly getting better. I also had back ache and my neck was sore also (again, muscle pain). I sleep on my tummy too and last night I must have turned onto my tummy without realising, but it was ok, did not really hurt. I have not had anything else to eat than Optifast, a bit of apple juice, some drinking yoghurt, very watery pumpkin soup, prune juice, and tonight I had some creme of chicken soup (cup o soup), plus water. I am not hungry at all. My tummy rumbles all the time, quite loud rumbles..lol... I am not seing the surgeon until 4 weeks, and dietitian in 2 weeks time.

Hi wilson.julie89

My surgery went ahead as scheduled for the 31st July. I was still really nervous right up until I fell asleep. The whole walking yourself to surgery freaked me out a bit as I haven't really had a lot of surgery in my life - tonsils when I was little and wisdom teeth at 18. Both my pregnancies were natural births so regarding the cuts I am actually having a little difficulty with them like you. I'm restricted with movements (maybe I'm just too scared to move incase i break something), it hurts when I cough, sneeze, blow my nose etc and I have back ache. Also, I'm a tummy sleeper so I have missed not being able to do that.

Up until today I haven't really wanted to eat so today I made a red lentil vegetable soup that my dietician recommended(pureed of course). If anyone is interested, I will share details.

I have my follow up appointment with my dr on Thursday to have my clips (they look like staples to me) removed. Maybe this will give me a little more movement.

Hope everyone is travelling well.

Di

Hi Mel - I too want to loose enough weight to get pregnant however I am hoping I have lost enough to get preg by Christmas. I was banded 22/07. I know Christmas is a little soon and my surgeon will not be pleased but I am 38 and feel time is running out.

Thanks for your comment Leanne. I think I will get it checked out. I have been enjoying the soups but am looking for something to actually "chew" now. I have had some food but just make sure I only have a bit and chew it really well with saliva.
Keep well :)

Hi Cozzie

My skin is itching but I think thats the skin healing. If its not red and inflamed or painful then it sounds ok but I would go to the drs just to get checked and for peace of mind.
I am getting a bit sick of soup and opti so I have started to eat fork mashed food that the rest of the family eats and it seams to be going down nicely I have been very carefull not to eat to much. Am finding I get momments of hunger.

I havent pressed in or anything to feel my port I can't feel it under my skin but I am sure its there somewhere.

Re:Anyone getting banded in July 09? Reply to this message
Hi guys and gals,

I am day 7 now. This morning I have noticed fluid gathering under my skin around the port site. The area had been slowly getting itchy all day until in the late arfternoon I noticed redness as well. The skin when touched feels a little numb (I think cause of the fluid). There is no pus or anything wrong with the cut that I can see.

Yesterday my 7 year old son chucked a tantrum and pushed my tummy. I hope this hasnt caused something to happen. I think if it gets any worse i will see the GP. Has anyone else had this happen?

Hi Melembru,
We have been trying for 6 years to get pregnant. A couple of months ago we went to a fertility clinic and the dr there told me to come back 6mths after my band op, if I didnt get pregnant before that. It was one of the main reasons I decided to have the band.
So hopefully it happens naturally for me and good luck to you also!

Qui,
U sound like ur doing great!! Im 2 weeks post op and I cant sleep on my stomach yet...it's driving me nuts!! I cant sleep properly and the lack of food isnt helping!!

Mk Queen,
we were banded on the same day. I noticed ur weightloss... thats fantastic!!
I found flavoured milk helped with my constipation... didnt really like it before the band but have grown quite fond of it now!
Hopefully the weightloss starts up again soon for u....think long term...we will be seeing u on the beach in ur new bikini by Xmas!! :)

hi all - 2 weeks since op today, I feel like I could eat anything, but of course Im careful not to. dont feel any restriction at all, and have my same hunger feelings I had pre-op, Im careful what I have and the amount, but my weight has come to a halt, also still have constipation. At a bit of a loss as to what I can do to get the weight moving again.

Hi al,

Well I'm 3 weeks post op now! Time really flies. I need to now get into an exercise routine. I'm feeling pretty good. I'm now starting to get a little bit hungrier but still not eating in the mornings just because I dont feel like it.

Wanted to ask if anyone in our July group is planning to get pregnant and if so when? We are planning to start trying in Jan/Feb depending on how much weight I've lost by then. I have heard so many different stories as to how long to wait and I dont like reading the thread on here about pregnancy and banding because there are some not so good stories on there and I dont need to be stressed about it, just want to be positive.

Anyway thats all to report.

Hope everyone is feeling good!

Mel

Re:Anyone getting banded in July 09? Reply to this message
How are you all going? I am on day 3 post op now and feeling better every day. I am still coughing a fair bit, which is probably my biggest problem as it hurts a lot to cough. It was just bad luck that I got the cold/cough a few days before surgery. I hold a pillow over my stomach when I cough, and it seems to ease the pain a bit.
I am drinking easily, but the Optifast I have to take in 3 lots as I feel full. Having a bit of drinking yoghurt also, but not so much. Feeling a bit bloated, and my weight has still not come down to pre-op weight, so I am probably retaining some fluid still. But each day is getting better, so I feel quite optimistic.

On a different note, my youngest daughter and her boyfriend announced their engagement yesterday, so we now have a wedding to prepare for. They are trying to arrange it in 3 months time, so not much time to do everything. But it will sure be an exciting time in our household. Hope I can at least lose a bit of weight beforehand so I can look nice at the wedding.

Hi Qui,

The coughing is a killer - you poor thing. My surgeon told me that it is normal to actually put on a little post op as your body heals and recovers, soon it will be dropping off. BTW congrats you did very well on Opti - double digits, I can't wait to get there.

Have a great day everyone
