Mind you, I really like having my up and go for breaky, soo =)
Biggest problem I have had is the itch on the wounds, and yeah I know they are healing , lol but i have had to sit on my hands. |

Hi Qui - I have had that feeling like something is stuck in your throat, I thought that it might be from the breathing tube, it is just starting to go away now, but a still there a little. I ended up taking painkillers last night as I overdid it yesterday, I agree with you glad I have 2 weeks off work - I thought I would be up and at it alot quicker than this. Think I had forgotten that I am 10 + years older than when I last had surgery and 30 + kilos heavier......
Got to go to a meeting at my eldest daughters school this afternoon, it will be intersting to see how I feel after 2 hrs sitting in the hall.
Have a good day
Arn :) |

Day 6 today, and feeling ok. I have back pain across middle of back this morning (tired sort of feeling, same as I got when sitting up too long the first few days). I did not take any pain killers last night when going to bed, and slept allright. The incisions are good, no pain there, I still feel tenderness in the port area. How long will that take to go away? I sleep on my tummy, but have to move slowly when I roll over to my side or back.
I also feel as if I have something stuck in my throat, hope I am not getting another cold. The Optifast is going down quite easily today. I am so glad I have 2 weeks off work, it would be hard going having to go to work like this. |

Another interesting day today - first day out of house doing jobs, had to go to daughters school for uniform fitting for high school, parent teacher interview - went to local shop for bread milk etc and I was absolutely stuffed, with terrible gas pain - the incisions are great, hardly any abdo pain really, but the shoulder is at times unbearable.
I was a very unhappy camper this arvo/evening - but all good now.
How is everyone else going???
Cheers
Arn :)
PS: Sorry to vent on you all!! |

Hi All,
Well its one week today and I'm feeling heaps better I see the dr and dietitian tommorrow and then on to mushies.
Sleeping is still unconfortable(tummy sleeper) but other than that I am great.
I treated myself to a boost smoothie yesterday but I was very full.
Have added my details to the list.

For Bella
Potato, Leek and Bacon Soup
Ingredients
10 small potatoes (peeled and diced)
1 leek (washed and sliced thinly, white part only)
175g bacon (diced, all fat and rind removed)
1 tbsp butter
1 garlic, crushed or diced finely
1/2 tub of light sour cream
3-4 cups of chicken stock
Method
1. Melt butter in a large saucepan, add garlic and leek and cook well.
2. Add bacon and cook well
3. Add chicken stock and bring to the boil.
5. Add potatoes and let them cook until tender, approx 20 minutes (I let mine cook for longer)
6. Remove from the heat and blend (I did it with a hand blender while it was in the pot)
7. Put sour cream in a bowl and mix it so it becomes a little thiner and add some soup to it and mix it, then add this to the soup and whisk it. |

Hi Julyites
I had my clips out today and it was a breeze. I go to see Dr for a fill on the 18th August. My birthday is this Friday so that is going to be pretty uneventful this year. Has anyone else been on Liquids for their birthday? Maybe I'll treat myself to a Baileys and Ice (just one). Still getting used to what quantities I can have and yes my stomach is protesting loudly as well.

Arn,
You probably need to add more really really well vitamized meat to your soups. (So my Drs practice nurse told me when I was 'starving' 5 days post op.) The protein is sposed to help reduce hunger pangs. I have a protein powder in my V8 juice and it seems to help a bit. |

Ummmm, so much to think about. I thought I was going really well and I am sure that I am, but after a great day of not much pain, I was sitting on the lounge, having my shake and then the worst wind pain or something - I thought I was having a baby - the worst gas pain I have had so far on this journey, from the pit of my gut to my left shoulder tip!!!!!
Anyway, all good now - heat pack, digesic and degas tablets !!!!
Will look into a more starchy soup Impea - not sure about jelly though, will email the clinic.
Thanks for all the helpful hints.

Cup of tea Arn? Might help.
I find my tummy rumbles even tho I am not hungry tho. Then I think, am I head hungry or really hungry?
Its been hard to break a habit of eating when I'm not hungry, just for the taste of it or comfort of it.
And yes water helps a lot. Although I still find it hard to drink heaps!

Hi everyone
I've been flat out & haven't popped by for a while. Lovely to read what everyone is up to.
I am 5 weeks post op on Thursday and really happy with the decision. I still get a bit peckish between meals but not hungry enough to lash out since my 1st fill last week.
The only things I've tried but can't eat are bread & hot dogs. Think I'll live without them...
So glad we all made it thru without chickening out!
Love to all

For those on the mushy stage I found potato, leek and bacon soup to be great, can make it runnier if you need to. If anyone wants the recipe let me know and I will post it.
I am on solids now and today I really wanted a piece of bread, but I didnt want to take any chances so I had a piece of toast with vegemite and cheese. It was very very yummy and I had no problems with it at all, toast is very easy to chew to a paste. I was very full after one piece of toast, but I left the crusts at the edges!

Hi to all Julyites
Felt my port for the first time this morning when I moved in bed, so now Ive been running my hand over the spot all day, its quite amazing, lol.
Bella - lol I have never worn a bikini and I doubt I ever will, but I am looking forward to lying on the beach and snorkeling on the holiday we have booked for the end of the year.
Julie - I read a tip on here that I have been using with success, get a tin of the chunky soups and tin of baked beans for extra protein, puree them together and thin if needed. Ive been experimenting with all sorts of different flavors, even added chilli sauce to one.
I have a special breakfast to go to Friday, so I thought I had better experiment to see if I could eat eggs yet, scrambled eggs went down very nicely at lunch time, so I should be ok on friday.
