Hi Arn/All
Yes I am now officially on mushies. Had a pouched egg and 3 tbsp baked beans for dinner, and it was yummy.
I liked the dietitian, she was very thorough, and spent a full hour with me.
Wk 3 is to be with thicker soups (too thick for straws), and not to puree soft foods anymore, but chew them well. Any food soft enough to cut with a spoon is ok. No more fruit juice or vegetable juice, but to swap for soft fruits and well cooked vegetables. Fish, eggs, legumes...
wk4 if confident with foods from wk3 to gradually increase to a more solid consistance, and introduce dry crackers, hard cheese (low fat), mince, chicken. No bread, rice, whole pieces of meat at this stage.
Wk 5, introduce the breads etc, fruits with skin, and red meat, gradually. This will then be the form of eating from then on.
She also said to look at the stomack as a boiling pot, and anything that you boil that disintegrates (potato, pumpkin, etc..) to use sparingly as this does not fill you up (goes through quickly), but things that will stay in the stomack for longer are the foods to use (whole grains, meat, eggs, vegetables that does not cook into a mush, salad vegies, etc).
She also said to take one Centrum per day, but to break it in half, and if not getting enough milk products for calcium to also take a Caltrate (also break in half as it is too big otherwise).
She was happy with my weight loss so far, but said that during the next couple of week it could come to a stop or slow down or even go up a bit.
I will most likely have a fill either when seing the surgeon in another week and a half, or after 5 weeks post op. |

Well.....I'm not a happy camper!!
As you all know I went for my first fill last night, and after the fill I had to "gulp" a mouthful of water to make sure it wasnt too tight. I told the Dr that I had a gurgle in my throat afterwards and he said see how you go!
Well I havent gone great. I was having a bit of a burning pain from my chest to my throat and my throat felt a bit blocked and I started having trouble getting fluids down, so I called his office and spoke to the nurse and she said that I obviously had too much fluid and the gurgling is the first sign. So I had to drive another 1.5hours each way to go and get half of it taken out.
I feel much better now but am a bit annoyed with my Dr.
Arn the Dr said to have fluids last night because of the gurgling or else its just mushy foods. So after having half out I have had mashed potato for lunch and am having some pasta for dinner and its fine. Will start back on solid food probably tomorrow or Sunday depending on how I feel.
Kate....yes I cant believe I was having doubts....I am very excited about the thought of trying for another baby at the begining of the year. I have a goal weight I want to get to before that tho, so might be a little later depending on how it all goes!
So thats my long story!
Hope everyone is travelling well!

I'm so pleased for you that the Dr said ok to the bub!
Can you believe it was just a few short weeks ago you were having second thoughts about being banded?
Isn't it just the best decision you've made? It certainly is for me!

OK guys I'm back.
He was running 1 hour late, lucky my little girl was soooo good!
He put 1 ml in, I felt a jab (like a blood test) and then he pushed a bit to find the centre. And put it in and that was that!
Then you have to gulp a mouthful of water to make sure it goes down and there is no burping or gurgling. I gurgled a little bit in my throat just as I was walking out and he said to see how I go and if I cant get solids down he will take some out. And to thin soup tonight, but I'm only having some warm milk because I'm not hungry.
Then mushies tomorrow and then should be fine for solids on Saturday.
I'm just glad the first one is out of the way.
Oh and I asked him about trying for a baby at the start of the year (which will be 6 months after the band) and he said that it is fine! YAY!
He also said he was very happy with my weight loss!

Hi Mel
Let us know how you went with your first fill. I am having my first fill next Tuesday and don't really know what to expect. How much did they put in? I think I remember the Dr saying they would put in 3.5ml (I think) Could you eat and drink okay?

| Good luck Mel, you will be fine. Maybe drink something before you leave the office so you know it is going down... at least that is what people say to do. I have not had a fill yet, so no expert. |

Hi all,
I have my first fill today, well tonight really because my appointment isnt until 6pm and I'm 1.5 hours away....not happy about that. And I have to take my little girl who is almost 3 with me because I have no one to look after her.
I'm a bit nervous about getting the fill. How much do they put in? Does the needle hurt?
I know I'm being silly but I think it's fear of the unknown!

Hi Nel
I saw one at Aldi, also 29.00 I think, I might get that one. It also had several containers with it.
I was really disappointed when I opened the instruction book for the one I bought at Myers... it is only suitable for herbs, garlic, hard cheese and nuts.... |

I've invested in some Gladware 250ml plastic containers. They come in a set of 5, are dishwasher and microwave safe and should be useful for my new bandit life at a really cheap price. Available at any supermarket near the gladwrap. I make up batches of food and freeze them in meal size portions ready to go for dinner or lunch at work. Mashed potato, sweet potato, pumpkin and carrot all together is a delicious mix. I've made apricot chicken, spag bol, tuna mornay and shepherds pie. All nice and mushie-proof. Brekkie is porridge or 1 weetbix.
I love mushie stage!(haven't lost a thing in over two weeks though)

Hi Arn and everyone else
It is cold in Melbourne (as usual, for this time of year), and was very foggy this morning.
I was up with the birds this morning as I could not sleep. Feeling great today (except for that darn back ache, still there).
Arn, are you on mushies already?
I know what I will have as my first, if it is allowed.... soft boiled egg with a bit of salt and pepper, mushed up. I just cannot get it out of my head, so that is definitely what I am having. HAHAHA, must be the head hunger teasing me!!! |

Hi Qui and everyone - my hunger isn't as bad now - but I do get very hungry when it is time to eat. Very real hunger pangs, which is great because I had got to a point that I never got the signals of hunger or fullness before the band. I had to eat so so so much before I felt full.
My first mushies keeps changing - what should I have??? What did others have ??
What a beautiful day it is today here in Sydney...
