Kate,

Congrats for adding a run into your walk that is fantastic - I had a giggle too about the black eyes - that will be me!! Jogging is a great feat and you should be so proud.

Well done

Hi Everyone,

Thanks Qui for the food comparison - I can't get my head around the fact that so little food compared to what I used to eat seems so much. Also my dietician said almost exactly what yours did Qui....last night I was mushing some lamb stew and rice but had quite a few whole rice grains and they went down well with chewing.

The weight loss has slowed down since mushies but still going down so that is good.

Isn't it amazing how different this is for everyone??? I am sure we are all going to experience so much.

I tried on some size 18's that I bought a couple of summers ago as an incentive (and never got into them) on the weekend and easily got into them I was so shocked - so I have said goodbye to the size 22 pants for good - what a great feeling.

Sadly my boobs are already looking like I have fed 16 children continuously - oh well, a good excuse to get fitted for good bras and chuck out the daggy old ones.

Keep up the great work everyone - I am so proud of all of us.....

I am back to work today - eek.......

Tootle

Arn :)

Hey all - I'm with Barge.
I had great loss but am now hungry all the freakin time! This has resulted in a weight gain that I am none too proud of. I get my second fill on 25/08 & I'm going to try much harder for the next ten days, than I have for the last ten days to eat less & better quality. Feel like I'm relying on will power. Obviously I suck at the will power thing or I wouldn't need a lap band!

On the up side I added about a 50 m jog to my walk today! I suspect I may have two black eyes tomorrow & will invest in a better bra before try it again. Did make myself giggle tho - I haven't jogged in about 15 years & I must have been quite a sight!
Hugs to all,
Kate

I want to send a cheerio to all those July bandits out there who have barely lost anything (compared to others) or have even put on weight.
I can say that it sucks. It is really demoralising to think that you have gone to such great lengths to have surgery, you are eating so little and it is such healthy food and yet the weight just stays put or goes on.

I congratulate the people who are getting great results but to all the silent ones out there that aren't posting because its not going as hoped...I hope for all our sakes that it gets better.
Can't wait to see the surgeon and get a fill on Friday. Maybe that will change things.

Keeping my chin up
Barge

Re:Anyone getting banded in July 09? Reply to this message
HI Arn

Yesterday was my first full day on mushies. I am not on to meat yet, except mince. but have not had that yet.

Breakfast:
1 Centrum, cut in half.
1/2 normal serve porridge with some prune juice (I have to stop prune juice once this bottle is finised as according to dietitian it has too much sugar). When that is done, I will have skim milk instead.

Snack:
1 small tub low fat yoghurt (the 1/2 normal size ones).

Lunch:
Pumpkin soup (140ml), a bit thicker than last week's soup. 1 WW fruitsalad

Snack:
Another yoghurt

Dinner:
1/2 fish in pasley sauce (the bags that you can get from Coles), a very soft potato size of an egg, and a few rounds of carrots (very soft also). This was very yummy.

I am not sure if this is ok, but that is what I had.

Hi Everyone,

I ate too much today ( I think) and I feel guilty. Let me know what you think???

1 weetbix with skim milk
1/2 cup mushie shepherds pie
1/2 boiled egg mushed
1/2 cup satay chicken and boiled rice
6 teaspoons of creamy custard off the top of a dessert my neighbours gave my children (feel really guilty about this one!!!Awful...
2 cups tea
Prune juice
2 bottles water

Seems like a lot of food - but I really don't know.

What do others think???

Also, imagine not going into Autographs anymore...

Hope everyone is well

Tootle

Re:Anyone getting banded in July 09? Reply to this message
HI everyone,
I am nearly three weeks post op and feeling a bit down due to LOTS of gas pain that hasnt subsided yet. Weight is dropping off 10.5 kilos to date but I think mostly because i just dont feel well.I bought some degas and peppermint tea after reading some of your responses and so far it seems to be a little better today.
Feel a bit silly as I honestly didnt expect to feel to bad - friends that have had it done were all overwhelmingly positive.
I know what you mean about the shopping girls- we will all have to hand in our Autograph loyalty cards. Can hardly wait for "normal shopping".
I don't mean to put off anyone yet to have the operation with above comments. I think it WILL be worth it when I recover a little more perhaps. Good luck to all wherever you are on the journey!

Yesterday I was able to zip up my sleeveless jacket, something I have not been able to do for so long. I still don't know how much I have lost as yet. Will find that out on Wednesday when I visit the surgions rooms and dietitian.

Had a small bowl of porridge with a little prune juice, plus 1 Centrum cut in half. Took 1 half before the porridge, waited, I could feel it going down... took the other half and again waited a bit, all fine, so proceeded with the porridge. I am full now, but nicely full, not overfull. Dietitian said to stop the prune juice, bit I am on my last bottle, so will finish it and then stop.

Re:Anyone getting banded in July 09? Reply to this message
Hi Arn/All

Yes I am now officially on mushies. Had a pouched egg and 3 tbsp baked beans for dinner, and it was yummy.

I liked the dietitian, she was very thorough, and spent a full hour with me.

Wk 3 is to be with thicker soups (too thick for straws), and not to puree soft foods anymore, but chew them well. Any food soft enough to cut with a spoon is ok. No more fruit juice or vegetable juice, but to swap for soft fruits and well cooked vegetables. Fish, eggs, legumes...

wk4 if confident with foods from wk3 to gradually increase to a more solid consistance, and introduce dry crackers, hard cheese (low fat), mince, chicken. No bread, rice, whole pieces of meat at this stage.

Wk 5, introduce the breads etc, fruits with skin, and red meat, gradually. This will then be the form of eating from then on.

She also said to look at the stomack as a boiling pot, and anything that you boil that disintegrates (potato, pumpkin, etc..) to use sparingly as this does not fill you up (goes through quickly), but things that will stay in the stomack for longer are the foods to use (whole grains, meat, eggs, vegetables that does not cook into a mush, salad vegies, etc).

She also said to take one Centrum per day, but to break it in half, and if not getting enough milk products for calcium to also take a Caltrate (also break in half as it is too big otherwise).

She was happy with my weight loss so far, but said that during the next couple of week it could come to a stop or slow down or even go up a bit.

I will most likely have a fill either when seing the surgeon in another week and a half, or after 5 weeks post op.

Re:Anyone getting banded in July 09? Reply to this message
Well.....I'm not a happy camper!!

As you all know I went for my first fill last night, and after the fill I had to "gulp" a mouthful of water to make sure it wasnt too tight. I told the Dr that I had a gurgle in my throat afterwards and he said see how you go!

Well I havent gone great. I was having a bit of a burning pain from my chest to my throat and my throat felt a bit blocked and I started having trouble getting fluids down, so I called his office and spoke to the nurse and she said that I obviously had too much fluid and the gurgling is the first sign. So I had to drive another 1.5hours each way to go and get half of it taken out.

I feel much better now but am a bit annoyed with my Dr.

Arn the Dr said to have fluids last night because of the gurgling or else its just mushy foods. So after having half out I have had mashed potato for lunch and am having some pasta for dinner and its fine. Will start back on solid food probably tomorrow or Sunday depending on how I feel.

Kate....yes I cant believe I was having doubts....I am very excited about the thought of trying for another baby at the begining of the year. I have a goal weight I want to get to before that tho, so might be a little later depending on how it all goes!

So thats my long story!

Hope everyone is travelling well!

Mel

I'm so pleased for you that the Dr said ok to the bub!
Can you believe it was just a few short weeks ago you were having second thoughts about being banded?
Isn't it just the best decision you've made? It certainly is for me!

Re:Anyone getting banded in July 09? Reply to this message
OK guys I'm back.

He was running 1 hour late, lucky my little girl was soooo good!

He put 1 ml in, I felt a jab (like a blood test) and then he pushed a bit to find the centre. And put it in and that was that!

Then you have to gulp a mouthful of water to make sure it goes down and there is no burping or gurgling.
