Hi there,
im so sorry that your feeling a bit down. Dont be too disheartened, you cant help it if your levels drop, although i do completely understand how it makes you feel. Rest over the weekend and dont think about anything untl monday.
Im feeling a little down myself today. Boy trouble......just dont understand them or the silly games they play. So of course, in my ordinary old fashioned way i feel like cr ap and have tried to make myself feel better with food, only thing is,,,,it still doesnt work! |

Hi Shan
I am feeling rather down and I can't get the motivation to go to the gym this week. I am foggy in the head and really really tired. I usually get like this when my thyroid levels are not right. I am having a blood test this afternoon to get them checked.
You should be stoked.. try to keep the positive thinking going I feel that that really helps to keep you motivated and helps you to keep the weight going down.
It's something I haven't been doing lately and my old bad habits have started to creep back in and my weight hasn't moved because of it. I am writing this week off and get prepared over the weekend to start fresh on Monday. |

Hi Shan
I am so sorry to hear your weight hasn't been dropping as quickly as you want. I think seeing a dietician would be worth it. They may be able to help work out why you are not losing. I really hope you don't lose faith, the band has been the best thing that has happened to me and I hope that it will be for you too. |

HI there,
i started at 122kgs, lost 6kgs before surgery and now fluctuate daily between 113 and 110 so not that much really.
I was banded in November last year, really was expecting more to be honest. People are telling me to be patient. I have only just started to get restriction in the last 2 fills though so hopefully things will start to pick up for me soon because i really dont want to loose faith ....anymore than i have anyway!

Hi Aur0re,
Which little town out of Mackay do you live? I live in North Mackay, you don't often hear from people up this way. If you wish to email me privately ejohnson1474@yahoo.com.au I would love to chat with you.

| I had my last fill about 6 weeks ago and that took me to 6.5mls. I struggled for weeks to eat anything more than soup. Now I have it under control. It's tight enough for me at the moment, I have some restriction, I know when I am full or overfull. |

Hi
Yeah it's dark when I leave home but about half way its light. I didn't walk this morning as it was so foggy I couldn't see my driveway so I didn't feel safe. I don't live in a city I live in a small town just outside of Mackay in Queensland. A lot of people leave for work around the time I am walking so I feel really safe.
The dietitian costs me $50 a month plus I have health insurance so I get back about $10 so it costs me $40 odd.
I had my surgery on the 5 January. My starting weight was 137kg, I lost 4kg before the sugery and I have lost about 26 with the band. About 30kg in total.
My mother-in-law had the band in October 08. She has only lost 20kg. She was only 90kg when she had the surgery so she didn't have us much to lose as I did.
How are you going?

I just struggle to get up in the mornings in this weather, plus isnt it dark at that time of the morning?
I realise that sounds like another excuse but im a bit of a fraidy cay! |

Hi there,
thanks so much for your post, i have found it to be extremely helpful. As i said the exercise isnt the problem, it has to be the food, i have started keeping a food diary again to catch myself in slipups that sometimes i dont even realise im having.
Are you running a 'tight' band? I had a fill almost two weeks ago now and am running it a little tight but as im not seeing the results i really dont want to have any out, not sure that i need to either, maybe i just need to slow down and choose more wisely!
Do you mind me asking hw much your dietician costs each month. I really want to see one more regularly and want them to help me work out a well balanced weekly planner and educate me on the 'good' and 'bad' choices for people with band...you know what i mean
Thanks again for you reply, i really do appreciate it. How much have you lost if you dont mind me asking? and when were you banded?

Hi Shan
I too have hypothyroidism and have found it hard stable my levels. I have blood tests every 6 weeks, sometimes I’m hypo sometimes I am hyper.
I have 6.5ml in a 10ml band. I see a dietician every month and she keeps me on track and has taught me a heap which has helped me to lose the weight.
The most important thing I have learnt is to measure my lunch and dinner portions into 1 cup portions. I also cook my weeks meals on the weekend and freeze them into 1 cup portions that way I can't eat more and as I leave home for work at 7.30am and don't get home till 7.30pm I don't have to worry getting home starving and eating the wrong thing or be tempted to pick up takeaway on the way home. Here's my typical weekday.
6am - 1/2 hr walk (every day)
7.15am - Breakfast - 1/2 packet of quick porridge oats (about 17grams uncooked oats) made on water + dash of milk
10am - Morning tea- 1 cup of tea + 1 slice low fat cheese & 2 x 9 grain vita wheat
1pm - Lunch - 1 cup of whatever (this week’s menu is pumpkin soup, minestrone soup, spag bol made with lots of veg, apricot chicken & rice, salmon, rice & veg rissoles.
3pm - Afternoon tea - 1/2 cup custard
5pm - 1 small apple
5.30pm - Gym + 45mins Cardio (4 times a week)
7.30pm - Dinner - 1 cup of whatever been cooked.
On weekends for breakfast I have 1 slice of 9 grain toast & 2 runny eggs. I try my best to stick to this but sometimes I blow it with chocolate or ice-cream. If I do I just go to the gym for an extra day or two to work it off. For the past 3 months I have lost on average between 2 to 3 kilos a month. I have just added personal training to the mix once a week for added motivation so I can push through and get out of the 100’s and into the 90’s.
Sorry for the long post.
Good luck. |

Hi everyone,
i suffer PCOS as well as subsequent hypothyroidism. I was banded in November last year and dont seem to have lost anywhere near the amount you guys have lost. I am really starting to struggle with the not loosing a great deal of weight as i thought i would have honestly lost more by now. Its not lack of exercise, im definately exercising enough, im pretty sure im not putting the right kind of calories in or something. I have a 10ml band and have 7ml in it and have only just really got restriction. Can you guys please give me a typical days for food a quite well adjusted band....please....because im really starting to get OVER it!!!
Cheers

Hi Tanya
I have PCOS and had lapband surgery with Dr Copp in early January. So far I have lost approx 30kgs. My starting weight was 137kg. I had struggled to lose weight with PCOS for years and have not been able to carry a baby to term. My OBGYN suggested lapband surgery. Since losing the first 15kgs my periods now come every 28 days when I have gotten under 100kg I will start trying again for a baby. I never feel hungry but I got head hungry a lot at the start where I thought I was hungry, starving sometimes and tried to eat and eat and only ended up feeling sick and bloated and in pain. I got over that hump by doing an activity like walking, crunches, star jumps anytime I felt like I needed to eat. Good luck with your surgery in Sept. |

The banding and subsequent dramatic weight loss in only 6 months has all but ceased by PCOS symptoms (for which I have suffered since I was 17). I used to have pain, my hormones were out of whack and now I feel brilliant. The main symptoms for me for irregularities and pimples. I don't get pimples and certainly have zero pain like I did before. I am excited to see what happens when I go off the pill eventually. 47kgs lost.
For most PCOS sufferers, getting to an ideal BMI is the "cure" so to speak. It certainly is most of the battle. And who doesn't want to lose lots and lots of weight? There isn't a negative to it..well that's my opinion anyway. I've worked very hard but have 110% submitted to this new way of life. Oh yes, and I also have an underactive thyroid. Supposedly hypothyroidism sufferers find it hard to lose weight, too. Well obviously that is a load of codswallop..lol!
Hope that helps,
Cat |

| I am debating the same issue. glad to see others are available for advice. I feel like a failure b/c I am so committed to excercising & dieting and I have only lost ten to fifteen pds after working with my gen. physician for 2 years. my ob/gyn appt today made me realize having POS stomped all my efforts. my dr. was very forward but does this lapband really work? can I have children? with POS its already a challenge will this effect it? your advice will be greatly appreciated! |

Hi Tanya,
I have PCOS and I had a lapband done just on 7 months ago. I have had a pretty good result to this point. I am on track to meet my weight goal by my 12 month mark.
Please feel free to email me on ejohnson1474@yahoo.com.au and I will be happy to talk with you.

Hi Bear,
Thanks for the invite, although I would like to come to a meeting, I live in the country, so I'll have to rely on online info. So if there is anyone else out there with PCOS, I would love to hear about your lap banding journey. Thanks again

Hiya Tanya
The Brisbane Bandits are having a get together on Sunday 24th May at the Coffee Club at Milton. It would be a good opportunity to ask others there about PCOS if you were able to come. We have lots of fun, even started a Trivia comp.

Hi Mel
Thanks for your reply, I would really appreciate hearing about your progress. I have heard what the Dr's etc say about the band & POS but it's so much better to talk to someone who actually knows what it feels like.
Wishing you great success.

hi tanya,
i have pos too. i was just recently banded havent even had first fill yet.but i can feel a difference with the amount of food i eat. pos or not the band does reduce the amount you can eat. my dr said that the weight loss with the band will help with the pos. you should ask your gp. i have started to achieve weight loss already. but time will tell:) ill keep you up to date.
