Yeah it's def been quiet, I guess everyone is busy doing things and keeping warm!

Just thought I'd check in, lost a little this week so I'm happy about that, but ate way too much tonight which is dissapointing. I am really looking forward to my next fill (not for another 4 or 5 weeks) because I don't feel restricted much at all. Still, the weight is coming off (slowly) and I haven't been doing much exercise (tsk tsk).

Hope everyone else is going alright and not being brought down by the cold weather!

Hi all,
Its retty quiet in here lately! Where did the rest of our Junies go?
Kel I am really looking forward to your band camp report and hope you have a great tme and learn lots.

Kate hopefully as you drop weght your port will be easier to find because you certainly dont want to go through all that fuss every time you have a fill.
I dont think you will do the treadmill any harm if you are only a couple of kilos over its restriction, they are probably pretty conservative with what they say it can take.

I think I almost had a blockage this morning. I ate a piece of toast and was very uncomfortable..had to have some coffee and walk around. I think it was close to coming back to visit me!

I hope everyone else is quiet because they are happy and losing weight and have nothing to report.

Hi Kel,

They aren't sure if I'll need to do that every time, I guess they are hoping for the best because my next fill is booked in at the Dr's office.

Good work on the big walk, I need to start moving more now... I need to lose a bit more before I can use the treadmil that my sister hired (who puts a 110kg weight restriction on a treadmil?)

No band camp for me, hadn't even heard about it to be honest..

Katie :)

Katie, what an ordeal for you. Will you have to go through this every time you get a fill?
Well im offically on solids now even though I have kinda been having them for a few weeks.
Everything else going great, another kg gone, forever i hope.
Went for a huge walk for about 2 hrs today with my mum-in-law, it was really good cos it pushed me to go a little harded, it felt like even my knees were sweating!!! LOL
Going to be very sore tomorrow i think.
Hope everyone is going well.
Cheers Kel

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Went to the doc yesterday and nutritionist as well. The plan is to have my first fill 4 weeks post op and I should be on solid food for one week prior to that, so I am now eating soft foods (as opposed to puree) until mid next week then on to solids. I dont seem to be having any problems with food so far.

My incision are all good and no more pain at all. I can clearly feel my port just above my main incision.

It's good to hear your stories. It would be helpful to sign off with your DOB (date of banding) so we can see where you are up to.

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Well that sounds like a huge annoying fuss but I am glad they were able to get it done.

I have been on normal food since the day after my first fill, it was only back to mushies for 24 hours.

Tonight for dinner I had roast chicken (about half a breast, no skin) safeway crunchy salad (I use no fat thousand island dressing rather than the one supplied) and half a smallish potato baked in its jacket with tzitziki.
Last night we ate at the movies so I ate junky food but kept my serve small- chicken satay skewer and arancini and a little popcorn.
Tuesday was spaghetti bolognaise (1 cup).
Monday I was waiting for my sisters surgery and split a risotto with a friend at a restaurant near the hospital.

So like I said earlier not the greatest food choices because of my busy week.
Ive also had a couple of pieces of toast (not at the same time) and things like yoghurt for breakfast.
Ive had no pain or blockages and dont think I have any restriction...but I do seem happy with smaller serves.

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Hey Manday,
Yeah went to the hospital today and got a fill... I was surprised with how involved it was, it had to be done with a CT scan and local anesthetic.

It took a Dr, a nurse and 2 other people to do the whole thing! The nurse said to me at the start "the worst case scenario is that we can't do a fill... and that your port might have flipped over"

I was like.. ok... thanks for that lol

Anyways it took about 5 mins of prodding around and they said it was done (I did get the feeling that they werent 100 percent sure haha) and now I'm home eating some mashed potato for dinner... so far I feel no difference.

What are you eating now Mandy? And everyone else who has had a fill? Are you still on mushies? I feel a bit lost as to what I'm supposed to be doing now...

Katie

Hi all,

Thanks Barb,

Each step on this weight loss journey requires a great deal of emotional and physical effort. I am going to heal
for a while before I consider whether I will have further surgery. In the mean time I am going to make a determined effort to keep my weight under control. The one and only good part of the last six weeks has been that I have dropped another 8 or so kilos and am now at my lightest weight in many many many years.

Cheers
Sue

Hi and welcome to the June forum Kylie.
I dont have any restriction after my first fill either.
You had your first fill very quickly, I had to wait four weeks after surgery and have to wait six weeks for the second fill.

I know its not weigh in day but Ive had a rough week food wise because its been harder to eat healthy so I needed to check this morning.
My sisters new kidney is working so far, Im looking after her kids and taking them to the hospital etc (hence the difficulty eating really well)
Ive had a constant tummy ache since Monday but no temp so I think its probably stress.

Hi Fiona

Just wanted to say congrats on the weight loss. You go girl!

All - I just had my last mushie meal (subject to normal food not causing problems tomorrow). Yippee.
I don't know how much weight I've lost since weigh in last week (deliberately no scale at home), but the suit I'm trying to get into almost fits, whereas it didn't last week.

My operation sites are still tender (they are right on my waist band which is not ideal)and I feel like I've got a ring constricting my throat in the morning, but otherwise doing OK - unless I stay bent over for too long.....not good.

It's great to hear everyone's stories and journey.

Sweetheart- it is indeed a terrible empty feeling not having the band anymore. I too had a torrid journey but you need to be positive of what you have learnt and weight you have lost over the 2.5 years.
I only had my band 4 months but I was determined to be in control of my food and health.
It takes time to get the head in the right spot and only you can find it, it may take time.
I was rebanded 3/6 was very scared but I am doing OK.
No failure -you have just come to a speed hump. Barb

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Hi all

Things going pretty well here. Went and saw the dietician yesterday, and she was well pleased with me. Lost just over 4kg in the 2 weeks post op.

Gas was a huge issue to start with - my god the burps where massive! sounded like a bloke!! but thankfully that has all settled down.

I am eating very small quantities which is a what we all want, ay, and not getting hungry at all.

Only thing today is that the port site is a bit tender and feels very bruised. Don't know what's that from... guess it'll sort itself out in time.

Hope you all are doing well.

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Hi all - feeling much better. I am 15 days post op and have been feeling very achy around the gut until this week. I was self-injecting an anti-clotting medication (to prevent blood clots, as I have had clots before) and I think that this was slowing down the healing. Stopped injections last Friday and bruising has gone and feeling much better.
I have been very hungry, although wondering if that is just craving things that I cant have while I'm on mushies. Cruskits, which disappear in your mouth if chewed thoroughly are meeting a need for CRUNCH!
I have no trouble with quantity or speed of eating (have scoffed occassionally without thinking). Have tried to limit each session to less than 1 cup of food. Eating lots of protein to try to help with feeling full.
Off to doctor & nutritionist tomorrow - looking forward to moving forward.
Haven't lost any more weight, but haven't put it on either.

Hi Col,
Thanks for the tips - I would have just kept trying to force it down with water. Now I'm picturing myself like Walt Disneys Hippo in Fantasia doing the hoola-hoop thingies around my kitchen. Elegant, very elegant.
It's still hard for me to fathom that people like you can loose 50 kg in a year and that I might be able to too! Congrats on the loss. Glad you like my name - it's appropriate.
Thanks again,
Kate

Hi COW TIPPIN...WHAT A FANTASTIC NAME.....Col here from Gladstone Queensland Australia......Just a little tip...sometimes...no most times,,,drinking on top of a blockage can make it worse through packing down of the bread or whatever so my tip is to just stop eating...stand up walk around and maybe do a few hula hoop type swings of the hips...rotating and bending forward and back can assist in getting the thing to slip on through but no harm will be done to the band.Slow up eating and chew chew chew is the best though it is real easy to forget and drift back into the old habits.....it all takes time. But don't fret; there is no harm done....Col....banded May 08..and down 51kg from 153.9kg....very happy...good luck

Are you considering the sleeve as a next step? What led to the band having to be replaced?
