Hi all
Just had my first fill. Only 1/2 a mil as the GP who does my fills said that Dr Talbot had already put a fair bit in (3 1/2 mil I think he said). He thinks that may be all I'll need. Here's hoping!
I lost 1.8kg over the 3 weeks from last appointment. Pretty good given I didn't eat much for 10 days when I was sick, but then have been pigging out the last 5 days - chocolate, cheese, lemon curd tart etc. So I was pretty happy with a reasonable weight loss. I'm aiming for 1/2 to 1 kg per week.
Here are my updated stats:

Hey all,
Mandy, sorry to hear you're having such trouble.
I have been eating wayyyy too much, and the scales are reflecting that lol
Again, it's more head hunger than real hunger I suppose, but I dont feel restricted so I get in a mood and eat way too much and then regret it.
Trying to just look forward to my next fill really! Wish it wasn't so far away.
Hope everyone else is going alright, I am looking forward to the time when we all have some more fill and start dropping weight again lol
Katie

Hi everyone,
Ok well the nexium seems to have done the trick and I have no more chest pain. Thats the good news.
The bad news is I did something when I went to sit up in bed yesterday and I think Ive done some damage to my port stiches or something because I have terrible tearing/burning pain around my port. Its worse than when I came home from hospital and I cant lay on my side.
I dont think my port has much room because my kidneys are so big it sort of sits in front of them and often sticks out a fair way. I tried to sit up just using my stomach muscles and felt it "tear".
I havent lost weight for a bit...not eating much but the scales arent really reflecting that.
Hope everyone else is doing better. |

Hi June Bandits
It's been a while since I have been on this forum as first problems with our internet and am now visiting family in Perth where it all seems to have been extremely busy, busy, busy!!
I went to the dr and nutritionist on the 16th July and she said I could start on some softish solid food and build up over the coming weeks before my fill on Thursday of this week.
I think I am eating too much but have had very little problems with anything that I have eaten that has been solid so it will be interesting with the fill. On saying that I did have some trouble with a hard boiled egg that had a softish yolk and that surprised me. I am finding that even though I think my meals are too big, I am not looking for food between meals and nor am I feeling really full after eating.
One thing the dr told me was to have a small mouthful of food at least 4 minutes before your meal as it clears your osophegorous (cant spell it) of mucous build up and helps the prevent first mouthful from lodging in the band. He said even if you do this while preparing the meal it will help.
I am not at home so cant weigh myself but think I have lost a little more - here is hoping the scales reflect that same on Thursday morning. Having a fill on Thursday at 11am - bring it on!!!

Thanks Katie and Minimisingme. Feeling a bit better now - but did overeat yesterday and day before which didn't sit well with the band. Still learning how to eat.
Have a good Sunday everyone.

Well I went to see my surgeon today because I was still having chest pain. He says it is oesophageal spasms which feel like a heart attack.
So I have to go back on the nexium to minimise irritation and drink hot water to sooth my oesophagus. |

Hi Lisa,
Sorry to hear that you've been having so much trouble. I really struggled for the first 3 weeks or so, but since then I've been pretty much fine.
I have had a few times when I have felt a bit run down or tired when I was still on liquids, but I'm back on solids and have pretty much no restriction now, so I don't feel much different. And I dont think the incisions should still be hurting? I have been putting bio-oil on mine since I took the bandages off, so maybe that might help?
Hope you feel better soon

Lisa I think delaying the fill sounds like a good idea mostly because you must feel awful having just had surgery and then getting the flu!
My incisions are fine now but I pretty much have all the other problems you listed...plus I feel very weak. Ive had chest pain last night and today but it doesnt seem connected to my eating or drinking. At first I thought I was coming down with something but it doesnt seem to be developing.
My daughter was laughing at my windy stomach last night, it sounded like a storm but I dont think my fill made it any better nor any worse. |

Hi all.
Have been sick with the flu so haven't been online for a while.
I haven't been eating much the last week - supposed to be on solids since Wed last week, but yesterday was the first day I ate 3 solid meals. Didn't want to eat at all for several days. Feels like I've lost weight but wishing I would feel 100% (band and flu wise). It's over 5 weeks post op now and I feel like I should be better, not still having problems. Surgery holes still a little tender, bit of pain in my chest/throat, shoulder pain after meals, constipation, wind - giving me the ****!!
Are others still having problems and just getting on with it regardless or am I having more problems than most?
Did those who had shoulder pain/chest pain find the fills kicked the pain off again? And what about impacts on wind?
I'm considering delaying next week's scheduled first fill (Wed) given I've not been eating properly yet and am having problems still. What do people think?

Hey Kel,
You aren't the only one without restriction... I just ate 2 peices of toast with tomato on top without thinking!
I have found i have been getting *really* hungry at about 10:30-11ish every day. I have eaten my entire lunch early the past couple of days and then been hungry again in the early afternoon.
I was hoping to lose 20kg before I joined the gym, but I think I might have to step it up and join the gym early to stop myself from putting on. My next fill isn't until halfway through August so I have a long way to go restricting my intake on my own!
Hope everyone is tracking ok xx |

Hi All.
Well i got my fill yesterday, but only 1ml boo-hoo.
Absolutly no restriction in sight yet.
Another fill in 2 weeks but only .5ml from now on.
The last few days ive felt like i could eat the a$$ out of a low flying duck!! just can not seem to fill up.
The weight has stoped at 12kg. Hasnt really changed for a week. Think i might try walking every day and see if that makes a difference.
Cheers Kel. |

Kate the pain could be the stiches on your port pulling a little or a result of the, er, "unladylike" problems you have been having (like a muscle pull from strain?) but I just want to mention we need to make sure we dont always think band when something doesnt feel right.
Id take myself off to the gp to make sure its not a urinary tract or kidney infection if the pain doesnt settle.
P.S We are all here to support each other so there is no such thing as a sooky la la! |

Hi Kate
The stitch like pain can be a sign of wind. Keep up the de-gas. You may find that after loosening your bowels with the senna, you may do some further stools and as you do the wind will pass through the bowel and the pain will settle. I would suggest not trying to "push" too hard - keep the stools soft and regular if you can - harder to do than achieve with a band at times. Remember too that your band is still new and you wont have much in your bowel probably. A warm wheat pack may help settle the pain too.
If you are worried a call to your doc may help settle any concerns you have. Dont think they are silly - your doc wont either.
Cheers

| The clinical nurse who works for my surgeon recommended Duphalac (or anything lactulose based). I can confirm it works! |

Ok so I have unlady like questions... Hope we're all friends here....
I've never had wind pain in my adult life, but I hope I have it now. I've been constipated (unlady like #1)and have now developed haemoroids (sp?) & unlady like #2. So I took Senna last night and had a small bowel movement today (unlady like # 3)By mid afternoon today I developed pain in my left side & I think it's around where my port is. There is no redness or sign of infection. It feels like a stitch from running only over a larger area. Is that what wind pain feels like??? I took 2 Degas but have had not passed wind (#4 for those still counting).
My Surgen is 300km away. I have an appointment with him for my 1st fill next tuesday (1 week).
I feel fine otherwise - no temp, no pain anywhere else- not even my right side, I went for a walk but it didn't help much...At what should I call my surgen? Am I just a sooky la la wuss? I've been banded 19 days.
Thanks for any advice you can provide.

I have become quite obsessed with this forum since I started the whole researching process but have never made a post. All of the info has been extremely helpful, am finally ready to share. No fill yet (30/7) but am going OK and not too obsessed with food but is getting harder. Have posted my details at the bottom.

I hope your fill went well today Kel. I statred with four mls but have to wait six weeks for the second fill I have no restriction but we dont know if our bands are even the same size let alone the different ways our bodies will respond so you could feel restriction after todays fill.
Gaye 18kgs lost is amazing! Congratulations.
Ive just weighed myself again and can actually imagine one time in the not too distant future when I step on those scales and they only display TWO numbers before the decimal point....I think you will all hear me squeal! |

Hi all,
had my first fill last week and I too don't feel very restricted. I find myself looking for snacks in between meals. Trying really hard not to eat too much at meal times. My weight is coming off slowly too, finally made it to the 18kgs so I suppose I shouldn't be complaining. Can't wait till the kids go back to school so I can start concentrating on some exercise - haven't started yet(really slack). It sounds like everyone is going well, I am really happy for all of you. Hi all - suppose that everyone is getting on with their lives now that they are feeling better.
I am officially on solids today. I am hungry all the time! Can't wait for my first fill next week. Hopefully that will help with the cravings. I have had no physical restriction in eating up until now and have been hungry for some time. 1 cup of food, three times a day is just no cutting it!
Hope everyone is travelling well.
