Thanks minimisingme for the words of encouragement back on 11/08.
I'm just back online after moving house. That was interesting - shoulder pain kicked in big time with the exertion and stress on move day...first experience of something getting stuck and something coming back up...oops - know not to eat when I feel like that in future.
Working on geting control of my emotional, boredom and other non essential eating (chocolate and peanut butter - eek) - making a bit of progress but still a challenge.
Cheers to everyone going through the adjustment processs.

Hi all,
Just reporting in after my second fill while I still have the details fresh in my head!
Apparently I have a 4ml band, and now have 3 ml inside it.... but they can actually hold upto 9ml.
Beats me how it works, but the lady giving me my fill would not be swayed to add any extra lol
Last time I got 2ml and she said that was lot for a first fill, and had no restriction. Now she added 1ml today, luckily she could do it in the drs office and I didnt have to go to the hospital again!
Now I have another appt in 3 weeks, and one a week later. so hopfully in a month, after 4 fills, I should be seeing some results!
I wont know how this is going for 24 hours because I'm back on liquids which is fine, less opportinity for me to snack!
Hope everyone is going well, I've been really busy on teaching rounds so haven't been thinking much about my standstill until the dr told me I'd only lost 1kg since my fill....but she did say its common to put on in this stage, so I feel ok.
Hope those in Melbourne have been lapping up the bit of sunshine we've had today!

| Hi Fellow June Bandits, I'm just updating my progress, now 99.5kg. Not really exercising apart from dashing around at work but great to be able to wear some old clothes and a few cheap new bits. One thing heaps of people are commenting on is that my skin is looking great! Must be all that healthy food. I've only had one fill-took seven weeks before I had it!! Now have 4.5ml in a 10ml band. Look forward to hearing updates from the rest of you. It really had become a lifestyle now. I think of it as the diet you can't really go off. |

Just wanted to drop and and congratulate everyone on their losses!
Not much else to report, I'm still able to eat wayyyy too much (and as a result of this, I am eating wayyyy too much haha)
Not long till my next fill though! I'm getting so nervous because I cant feel my port at all, and I'm scared they wont be able to do my fill at the Drs surgery and I'll have to go back to hospital...
Ah well, not a lot I can do about it I suppose haha

Hi all
Have added my progress below and am feeling OK about my progress. I am not feeling hungry between meals but think that I am still eating a bit too much for my meals. When I eat less I still feel hungry. Am not sure whether this means I should get a touch more fill when I go to Dr's in 2 weeks or whether I should eat smaller meals and have a snack between meals. I dont feel the weight is disappearing that fast but I am losing! Any suggestions?

You're right that was said a bit flippantly. What I should have said was last 1.5 weeks nothing.
But have been for an hour walk today and off to aquafit tonight so maybe things will start moving again.
But you are correct I am quite happy with the overall result! |

Hi lisa,
Ive been having a really stressful time recently as well althout its a totally different stress to what you are going through and I fully agree it doesnt make this band buisness any easier. I was getting osophageal spasms because of it and it felt like I was having a heart attack.
It is hard to stop eating when you feel hungry and dont really have any restriction yet. I havent been intolerant to anything yet and dont want to be pbing all over the place either but really am hoping a bit more fill will make me less interested in food. So far like you I just feel like Im on a diet.
The only thing I can say is that the band has helped my willpower a bit because I think this time hopefully anything I lose will be gone gone gone. Better than when i used to tell myself what did it matter if I cheat it always comes back anyway.
I really wish you luck in your job hunt...this "economic downturn" sucks in many ways! |

Yeah you're right about the cheese mandy, but I am talking snacks of cheese and bikkies haha
I'm trying to just not worry too much, in reality I am eating a fair bit less than before, and it all becomes relative. Before I would have been feeling bad about eating half a pizza, now I feel bad about eating cheese and bikkies lol
Just trying to stay positive, remembering that it isnt a magic tool and will actually take time haha |

Hi All
I haven't been on for a while.
I've been wanting to eat ALL the time. My appetite came back a week or two ago and I just want to eat, eat, eat.
A smaller meal than pre-op IS filling me up, but I don't feel 'satisfied' like I did when I was on mush (go figure). I'm grazing because I want different tastes and want to feel 'fuller' more so than because I'm really hungry. Worried I may be stretching the stoma though.
I'm trying to be kind to myself tho - I just sold my house and move out this weekend (tight job market has gotten the better of me), just found temp new rental digs last Sat and am job hunting as well - so I guess a bit of emotional eating is natural.
I really want to give credit to those of you who are managing on willpower and those who have upped your exercise.
I'm considering getting a bit more in the band next consult (2 weeks time) but I REALLY don't want to be intolerant to too many things (Only white bread, cakes etc are a problem so far). I'm trying to only hungry eat so I know if the band has enough or not, but it just feels like being on one of my old diets, rather than getting the benefit of the band.
All thoughts welcome.
Lisa
PS> Guys also struggling - hang in there. |

| Katie it will be great when you can use the treadmill. Dont worry too much about the ocassional slip up...by the way I would call cheese a bad food like hot chips or twisties. I have a small bit of cheese quite often - light philly or a little cheese on a sandwich, grated cheddar sprinkled on bolognaise. Im not talking huge amounts or every day but we still need dairy. |

Gaye I think I would go for your second fill, pehaphs even call and see if you can move it forward a week or so. Then you will have a month to see if you have restriction or not. You may feel even after your second fill that there is not any real restriction yet and if there is and you think it will be too awkward for you in Fiji you can have a little taken out.
I dont think you are silly at all because my DH and I are thinking of going to Europe and I dont intend to go with restriction but will have a fill lined up for the minute I get home! |

Hi Kel,
Well things arent moving fast but they are moving. Like I thought my 102 on the scales at home translated into 103.5 dressed at the doctors but Im still claiming 102 at least in my head!
I got my second fill today, another 1.5 mls. The doctor asked if I had any restriction so i said No "I feel nothing" to which he replied "My ex wife used to say that to me all the time!"
He he...gave me a good giggle anyway.
The fill hurt more this time as it took four goes to get it in without hitting the plastic rim...ouchy!
I asked about the tearing pain I had when I used my stomach muscles to sit up in bed and he said there are three hooks into the muscle wall and that they can tear a little and may even bruise but that this wont happen after the scar tissue develops well in about six months.
I also got a script for some cream to help my keloid scars.
I had to wait six weeks for my second fill and a month for my third so i guess my doctors are a little more conservative than yours Kel...although I did get 1.5 today which Im happy about. Ive no idea whether it has made a difference or not yet. |

Hey everyone,
Gaye, you're not being silly, you should just try and be comfortable for when you go away. I imagine it would not be that easy to get a doctor to take fill out in Fiji, and it could be costly if your insurance company doesnt cover the band (I know plenty of people have trouble with getting travel insurance).
I have been avoiding the scales, since my little loss I have had - hot chips, twisties, cheese, and toast with butter. Not heaps of any of them (nothing like what I would have had before banding) but I still feel like I will burst my own bubble if I see how much weight I've put on lol
Only got about 10kg to go before I can use my sisters treadmill and I really can't wait! Winter does nothing for my motivation to get moving lol
Katie :) |

Hi Gaye,
I am not a June 09 Bandit, im actually an October 08 bandit.
Firstly, I would like to say no you are not being silly :)
I would suggest you get another fill because at the moment it sounds like you have barely any restriction (which is highly common with only one fill).
I think it took me around 3 fills to find I wasnt still hungry a lot of the time,I often hear other bandits also saying it takes a few fills to get good restriction.
I recently travelled overseas with 5.5mls in my 10ml band and had no difficulty, but just keep in mind that everyone is different with restriction and how much it takes to get them there.
I would suggest going back to your clinic and getting another fill, even just going there to discuss your options with your surgeon and explain about going away and not wanting difficulties.
I hope this has somewhat helped :)
