This is pretty much how I was feeling before my last fill a bit over a week ago.
I have noticed a huge difference since the fill last week and I am now eating much smaller meals. I am having more food getting stuck but have found that it is more to do with the haste and not chewing enough. I think I had developed bad habits before my last fill where I could eat most things without chewing well.
I am now getting used to eating slower and chewing well and less food is getting stuck and I am feeling fuller quicker.
Good luck with the fill or non fill whichever way you decide to go!

Hi all
Wow - sounds like people are starting to get some good wins.
I've got a question...request for input. I'm tossing up whether to get a fill or not tomorrow and would welcome people's input if they have had experiences like below. Will seek drs advice too, but wondering what your experiences are.....
I've been eating too much - need 1 1/2 cups or so and am hungry again every 4 hours, plus not feeling satisified easily. I find my throat starts to hurt and argues for stopping eating, but I don't feel satisfied at that point. That is, my hunger is gone, but there isn't that feeling of satiety.....and definitely don't feel 'full'. Plus, I'm 'circling the fridge' a lot. Part emotional/boredom, but that wasn't there the few weeks after banding.
But then several times food has gotten stuck and caused really really painful spasms. Normally this is when I am eating in a rush/when anxious, am overhungry or stuffing food down without thinking. Twice I've regurgitated. Bready food is a problem, but otherwise I can eat most things as long as they aren't dry.
To fill or not to fill - what are people's views???

Congratulations Kel! Another one back into the double digits, how exciting!
Good luck with joining the gym, I know that's something I really need to do, but I'm just not ready yet. As you say, it's that feeling of being the one at the back who really can't do it haha I'm sure it's more psychological than anything else, but there it is haha.
Looks like a few of us are stuck trying to hit the 20kg loss, I have been hovering around 18.9 (gaining and losing from this point) for weeks... Hoping my fill on monday will kick start a bit more weight loss!
Hope alls well with everyone else, hope you enjoy Fiji Gaye! |

Hi All.
Well as of this mornings weigh in im 98.4!!!
Its been about 5 yrs since ive been under 100kg, so im happy with that. Total w/loss is just under 17kg. I have a brothers wedding in 4 weeks so trying really hard to crack the 20kg by then.
Ive had a treadmill on loan for the last month, did really well till a few days ago, now im over it so i goined the gym were my kids go to occasional care. I have to book their spot 3 weeks in advance si i fugure if i have a commitment with then in o.care i have to go to the gym at the same time!! Actually really nervous, i will be the one gasping for air in the back row of pump class!!
Went through a really slow few weeks were i only lost about 500gm, hoping that plateo has passed.
Got hubbys 30th next weekend and im going to see my mum and some family and friends for the first time since the op, will be interesting if they notice my missing 17kg.lol
Another fill in 2 weeks, im happy with my eating, i can still eat everything but i get full a lot quicker, if i over eat a little i get a pain in my left side and a little shoulder pain. good reason not too.
It will be interesting if this next fill will stop me being able to eat certain things, we will see.
Well, i need my beauty sleep!! have a great holiday Gaye, and take care everyone, keep truckin! Cheers for now Kel. |

Hi all, just been to the doctors today - he is very happy with my results so far and has agreed to not give me my 2nd fill until after Fiji. Couldn't be happier, now I can go on holidays with ease. I have made an appointment for a fill the week after I get home. Seem to have gotten stuck around the 20kgs, I will have to try my hardest to stay on track and lose some more weight before I go. Only 3 weeks away now!!
Bye for now, Gaye |

Hi all,
Sounds like some big wins on the "War on Weight"! Congratulations all - it seems like a "winnable" war afterall!
I have had my second fill and am amazed at the difference - am now eating sooooo much less and the weight is starting to shift! I am managing between meals without snacks and at meal time am having small meals which I am finding to be satisfying.
I think I am finally feeling how I am supposed to with the band and can see a light at the end of the tunnel!
The walking is now getting easier each day and surprise, surprise I am starting to enjoy it too!
For those that are struggling, persevere with the fills and get them to a level that suits you.

Fantastic to be going to Europe and to break the tonne! Congratualtions.
I have flown a fair bit the past 4 weeks and my band hasn't been too bad. More my emotional state affects the constriction. I had to fly to NZ to be support to my Mum as her sister died. I noticed that my band had narrowed. I am hopeful it will relax once I am on the road to the Birdsville races Monday.
Being in the outback will be more of a challange as I am totally gluten and dairy free in my diet. I am making sure I take nice wine as only slabs of beer are served out there! I hope to have a good time relaxing.
My BMI is now down to 29, from 40 and I am in size 12 pants and 14 tops. St Vinnies are a great place for good gear to wear. I have had to go from Queensland heat 37c to NZ cold 14c so I have had to find a few extras recently. I have invested in a belt to hold the jeans up a wee bit longer as well. Biggest problem has been underwear. Thankfully Myers have had a few Bonds discounts but I only get a few at a time. I haven't resorted to running in side seams as I have found the entire body shape has changed- shoulders, sleeves etc. Barb |

Hi all
Miss Katie - Thanks so much for your words of encouragement after my last post. Yes, shoulder pain has subsided...just seems to be triggered by exertion and stress. It's amazing how much more you recognise non essential eating hey!!
Sueneill- Yeah, it can be discouraging when it is not working. Hang in there though. I was surprised to find out I already had 3.5ml when I went for my first fill. Turns out some doctors fill it and some don't, so everyone in here will have a different experience.
Minimising me - Europe - yippee! That will be awesome. And super congrats on breaking the big 100. Opp shops are great for winter clothes - lots of jeans and coats. Are you in Sydney? If so, I might have some things you can borrow (I lost 40kg a few years ago so have a range of smaller clothes.)
Re band on plane - suggest you talk to doctor. I fly a lot but haven't yet with the band. My doc said it would be fine. I found taking Optifast drinks/bars with me on travels really helped (even before banding). Great if there is no food around (eg. hungry at odd hours), at airports, on plane, or when the available food is bad/expensive.
Debhyam - Congrats on all the walking. WOW. Have you measured yourself. I'm betting you've dropped size, but added kilos as you've built muscle.
I'm meant to be having a fill Monday pm but am thinking of delaying it. Too hard to know if I need more or not given everything that has been going on. One minute it is too tight and I can't eat. The next I'm hungry as hell and eating lots.
Will keep you posted. :-) Lisa |

Congratulations Minimisingme! Wow 2 numbers - I dream of the day that I too can scream with delight at reaching that milestone! And a trip to Europe thrown in too - You will be so much more comfortable on the flight with the weight loss. I am looking forward to the day when I fly and the meal tray will sit down flat instead of on my belly!!! Have a great trip and dont worry too much about winter clothes as it should still be mild in most parts.
My weightloss has been VERY slow and today I was given another half a ml so think that brings it up to 4.5mls. I am hoping for a big change with the additional fluid.
I havent been eating rubbish, rather my meals have been too big. Walking about 2 hours a day so weightloss should have been better than it is. Anyway here's hoping for better results this month!
Good luck everyone!

Wow how exciting for you!
The whole lot, breaking 100 and going to Europe!
Where abouts in Europe are you going? It shouldnt be too cold over there, they are just heading out of summer. Depending on where you're going though... Spain and the south of France will still be really warm, while Irelend is never actually warm lol
My 2 cents on the fills issue is that I would leave it as is (don't get anymore before leaving), or have some fill taken out as a precaution.
My reasons for that are -
1. If you are comfortable where you are, and can trust yourself to eat sensibly then you should be fine, but getting more before you leave my leave you with issues.
2. Getting some out would be another option depending on how you went getting travel insurance to cover you? If you aren't covered for your band on your travel insurance, it could be extremely difficult and costly to have some fluid taken out (do you know how to say 'gastric band' in spainish? lol).
If you got travel insurance to cover your band, could you share the details because I have noticed a lot of people saying that they haven't been able to get cover.
My main concerns would be, will there be someone who is able to adjust my band in an emergency, and will it be very expensive.
Anyways, those are just my opinions! So happy for you breaking 100 and can't wait to hear more about this trip :)

Hi Everyone,
Sorry its been so long since I posted but life around here got a bit crazy and to cut a long story short my husband and I are now going to be going to Europe in THREE weeks!!!!!!
aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh
I have no clothes because for the first time in my life they are too big!!!
It will be cold over there and where do you even get winter clothes this time of year?
And I would LOVE some input on what to do about my band/fill. I am already going to have to carry an esky with injections and lots of other medication with doctors letters etc....so I really dont want hassles with my band. At the moment I can pretty much eat what I want if I chew well but I have never tried more than the half to one cup. I did have one uncomfortable stuck feeling after some white bread. I dont want to put on weight while I am gone but I do want to be able to enjoy meals out etc.
Is it true the band can swell on flights??
Oh and my big news if you didnt already hear me scream....I BROKE 100 this morning!!!!!
YAHHHHHHOOOOO
99.6
I thought I was NEVER going to get there as my weight loss has seriously slowed down.
I hope everyone is going well! |

It's very quiet in here lately!
Lisa, hope the shoulder pain has since left you, and hope you're doing well with stopping the non essential eating. That's the part I am really struggling with!
Since my fill I have actually felt restriction, which makes me happy. I can't wait to get another fill actually. For the first time in weeks I feel like the band is doing something for me, although the scales might not agree (been to scared to weigh myself lol)
Hope that everyone is doing well, and that the quietness in here is due to everyone getting on with their fun and exciting lives haha

Thanks minimisingme for the words of encouragement back on 11/08.
I'm just back online after moving house. That was interesting - shoulder pain kicked in big time with the exertion and stress on move day...first experience of something getting stuck and something coming back up...oops - know not to eat when I feel like that in future.
Working on geting control of my emotional, boredom and other non essential eating (chocolate and peanut butter - eek) - making a bit of progress but still a challenge.
Cheers to everyone going through the adjustment processs.

Hi all,
Just reporting in after my second fill while I still have the details fresh in my head!
Apparently I have a 4ml band, and now have 3 ml inside it.... but they can actually hold upto 9ml.
Beats me how it works, but the lady giving me my fill would not be swayed to add any extra lol
Last time I got 2ml and she said that was lot for a first fill, and had no restriction. Now she added 1ml today, luckily she could do it in the drs office and I didnt have to go to the hospital again!
Now I have another appt in 3 weeks, and one a week later. so hopfully in a month, after 4 fills, I should be seeing some results!
I wont know how this is going for 24 hours because I'm back on liquids which is fine, less opportinity for me to snack!
Hope everyone is going well, I've been really busy on teaching rounds so haven't been thinking much about my standstill until the dr told me I'd only lost 1kg since my fill....but she did say its common to put on in this stage, so I feel ok.
Hope those in Melbourne have been lapping up the bit of sunshine we've had today!
