Hi Kel,
You poor thing having to go on liquids for 4 weeks!! I am nearly 6 days post op and the liquids are beginning to do my head in...not that I would do anything stupid but I think you are brave and unlucky to have to be on them for 4 weeks.
Good to hear that you have had no problems post op, we are nearly bandit twins! Take care, Amy
P.S after losing the weight I put on post surgery I have now lost another one so all is good, just another 39kg to go!!! |

Hi Bron and welcome!
One week will fly, and you will be a bandit before you know it.
Your last two years sounds like my whole life!! lol
My weight has never stopped me from doing anything, just made it a little harder or slower!!
I was banded on 4th june. Had a really good experiance, no pain as such, and my incisions are healing really well.
One week, the count down is on!! lol
Take Care

Hi everyone! My name's Bron I'm from bunbury WA, i'm being banded on 17th of this month- 1 week away today YAY! I'm very nervous about the surgery itself- I've never really been in hospitals. Im going up the perth (about 2 hours away) to have it done so I'll have no family with me.
Optifast hasn't been too bad on me- the first 3 days are always the worst on ANY diet. But I've been on continuous diets since the age of 7, so I'm pretty disciplined in how I eat, but still the weight piles on. for the last two years I have said- I don't care anymore- I'm not living the rest of my life on a permanent diet of shakes and pills, so I've eaten whatever I wanted for 2 years in the lead up to this- it's been great. Now it's time to knuckle down and change my life.
Are any other Lurkers out there being banded on june 17th by stephen watson in murdoch?
today-June 10th, 102kg, 166cm

Thanks Amy, thanks Kel!
I'm not too nervous yet but when Mum left for work today she started crying so that was a bit sad haha Poor love.
I just finished my uni assignment which was keeping me distracted, and I had my breakky opti and its total fasting for the rest of the day.
I should have stayed up late last night so that I could sleep the day away I think lol
Anyways, thanks again for the kind wishes girls! I'll be keeping you posted :)

Very good weather to be at home....still in my pj's, love this recovery thing, although nearly have run out DVD's and know all the times for the daytime chat shows!
Good luck again for today, Amy. |

Hi Amy and welcome to the "June 2009 bandits"!!!
Glad to hear all went well with your op and you didnt have much pain. Thankfully i didnt have to much the shoulder thing either, just a dull ache every now and then.
I have read that it is common to put on a little in the first few weeks, you would wonder how eating so little, but it does happen.
We have just got to remember the first few weeks are not about w/loss but about healing properly, after healed, then we can go hell for leather with the w/loss. hehe
Lucky you, only another week or so on liquids!! i have anothe 3 weeks of it!! doc orders!!
Take care.

Sending good vibes out to you Mandy, I'll be thinking of ya today before I go in :)
How is everyone else feeling? The weather is pretty miserable in Melbourne so I'm kind of excited to get this over and done with and have a legitmate excuse to stay inside by the fire and watch dvds for a week! (always need to find a silver lining lol)

Hello everyone, had my band done on 5th June, have been reading all the messages and some of the info has been really helpful. Its really great to hear from people going through the same experience. I have had no great troubles, just some pain on the op site, no shoulder tip pain. Starting to get bored on the liquid diet, but it's only to the end of next week so I can hang on. One thing that I thought was strange was that after 2 days after the op and of hardly eating I put on 2 kilos!! Has anyone else had this happen to them? Now it has gone and hopefully I will start to see some real results.
Good luck to everyone going in for their surgery's this month!!

Just thought i would put what i have been eating/slurping hehe
B - 100ml thin custard
S - 1/2 cuppa tea
L - 200ml spag bol, blended and water added to thin right down
S - 100ml choc sustagen
D - 250ml chinese wonton soup, everything blended, vegies noodles wontons, only took out the pork, added extra stock, was YUMMMMMMY
I really have to get the water into me. Have not been drinking much at all and im nowhere near my 2lt of fluid a day.
Not feeling hungry so that is good but makes it hard to be drinking all the time.

Hey Mandy,
Dont stress about the gas, even if it does not come back on tonight, you should have time to shower at hospital before your op.
Glad your throat is ok.
Tut tut 1/2 a chicken breast!!! haha only kidding.!
Im sure it will be fine, its not like you had a pig out on KFC or some such!!
Well, best luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you and katie.

I was very naughty tonight.
Downright WICKED!
My husband made me a homemade chicken stock for when I get home (from scratch!) and the smell in the house just about killed me sooooooo I had half a steamed chicken breast for dinner with my Opti friendly salad.
Wow boring old steamed chicken never tasted that good before.
I dont think they will cancel my surgery for one small piece of organic free range steamed chook.
My throat feels ok which is great but the streets gas is out and our hot water is run on gas so now Im hoping it will be fixed in time for me to have a shower in the morning!
I hope you dont go too crazy tomorrow Katie...and I hope your operation goes incredibly smoothly and you feel so great you are home quickly. |

lol kel, well hopefully if they are healing you will be back to wearing all your undergarmets very soon!
sounds like everything is going really smoothly for you, its reassuring at this stage haha
24 hours to go now... my 2000 word essay is nearly finished, I might take a break and do some in the morning (to keep myself from climbing the walls). |

they are looking good, just waiting for the sterie strips to fall off. a little itchy, they say that is a sign of healing.

Mandy,
I didn't really notice the shakes tasting different... I liked the box of strawberry ones that I had but since we had 2 big boxes of chocolate ones to finish I have just been having those and I just drink them as cold as possible and as quick as possible!
Hubby is right, I will be so listless tomorrow. I've left all my packing until tomorrow, just so I have something to do!
Even if you've forgotten something, it sounds like you have a supportive hubby to take care of things that might pop up!
Kel, I hope the incisions start to heal up quick, not wearing a bra would be hell for me so I hope you're going alright :) |

Maybe you could get one of those soft sports crop top bras Kel, Id think you would want to avoid your bra for ages if its going to rub and sometimes its hard to go without. I hope my incision ist there as I wear underwire and they usually end up poking me by the end of the day.
I told my husband you had to wait until that late Katie, he thought it would suck and you will be walking in circles all day tomorrow just wanting to get it over with.
I keep thinkinbg Ive forgotten to do something important and its doing my head in, Im fairly sure I havent though.
Katie have you ever noticed the shakes not tasting the same one box to the next? I ran out of strawberry and the new box I bought tastes really funny I thought I had done something wrong and threw the first one out but the next one is as awful! |

hi all.
i think i read some where or was told at some time that the internal stiches where they stich the band on ? port on? to the muscel can take 27 -29 days to heal completely?? dont quote me on that,
but i think that is why one month, to be very sure everything is attached properly. as u say katie we can only take the advice of our docs,
i have another feeling, that im on mushies for about the same time too! hehe
my incisions are looking really good. only minimal bruising, which is great cos i bruise very easy, so they must have been gentle!!lol
havnt been wearing a bra cos one incision is right between my boobs where my bra sits and dont want it to rub.
(i know not a good look but hey, you do what you gotta do!!!)
chat soon kel |
