Sorry to hear you are feeling terrible Taz.
Keep up with the pain killers, if you are taking the soluable panadol its terrible and I found the liquid a lot better, it still tastes like cough medicine but isnt as awful. Make sure you are adding benefibre to your liquids so you dont have any problems with the plumbing from your painkillers. My dieticioan said NO metamucil as it forms a gel.
I used a wheat bag a lot for the first few days but I think you are meant to avoid putting it directly on the wounds.
Also try to sleep with a little pillow to support your tummy when you are on your side.
If I had to go out in the car I found the rough roads hurt so held my port wound so it wouldnt bounce around.
I hope you are feeling better in a couple of days.
Mandy

Hi everyone.
I am starving and fixated on food today...its driving me crazy.
I have eaten 6 strawberries with half a no fat honey yoghurt
1/2 small tin of spc spaghetti with half a slice of low fat cheese
2 cruskits with low fat hummous
So all in all so far not too naughty however I feel like knawing my own arm off!

I have been rubbing vitamin e oil into my scars and most look ok apart from the port scar which is rather ugly.
Most of my pain is gone now and I even slept on my stomach for a little last night. I dont seem to have shoulder pain except when I have a shower and then it hits me on both sides and is really awful.

Apart from the two drinks and two maletesers I had last Saturday I havent cheated and eaten anything unhealthy or over my allowance for five weeks now but I really am feeling my willpower wavering today.

Hi Everyone,
saw my dr yesterday 26 days post opp. I had my first fill, no pain at all. He put in some fluid, then made me have a small sip of water but that wasn't able to go down, so he then withdrew some fluid. Now all is good, I think he put in 3 and a half mls, just had 1 weetbix and all seems ok.
He said the band doesn't really work properly on mushes, it works better on solid food, so I am to start eatting small normal meals finally. Cant wait but also very scared.
Hope every one is well.
Deb

Mother in laws can be quite funny can't they Kel? Just think, you've motivated her to live a healthy life! lol
I have had a similar situation in that my sister and one friend have really decided to get healthy since I decided to have my op, only theirs has been in a supportive, loving way haha

Mandy, I thought about the gum thing at work the other day when I was sitting at my desk and was about to swallow some gum, then I thought about it getting stuck and decided not to lol

We didn't get any rain down this way (geelong), it was sunny and warm all day so I really enjoyed my day off!
I went to visit a friend and we went to a cafe that we go to regularly, it felt weird to not order any food (no point paying $12 for a bowl of soup that I can only eat half a cup of lol).

GO Kel!! Arent people funny, I guess she is used to telling herself that she cant look that bad because her daughter in law is chubby. Id just let her kill herself trying and dont even worry if she gets to a size eight because its the way you look and feel you care about, not the way she does!

Katie Im doing ok but Im certainly not doing mushies quite as carefully as you. Ive been having a fair few cruskits with smolked salmon and Ive had some refried beans with guacomole, salsa and a little grated cheese. Tonight my daughter is making bolognaise and I will eat the meat but not the pasta. I think Im starting to get hungry but Im not certain if its my head and tongue or my stomach that needs the food :)

Danhalv unfortunately the bad breath comes with losing weight because its the result of your body burning stored fat. It's probably a little worse at the moment due to the anaesthetic and pain killers and will also get a little better when you are on solid food. Some people chew a lot of gum to try to make it better but some dieticians will tell you this makes your stomach think food is coming and increases your hunger, plus its not meant to be good for a lap bander to swallow gum.

Hi All.
Well Katie that beautiful day has just turned to cr@p!!
Got caught in heavy Heavy rain walking to supamarket with the kids, thank god for rain covers and unbrellas!! lol

Danhalv, I remember someone talking about bad breath after the op not that long ago, sorry i dont remember the details but maybe if you ask on the general chat someone may be able to help. (have not looked if u have already done this!)

Hows this for funny, after about 2 weeks banded and i had lost about 7kg, my mum-in-law has decided to join contures, she is about a size 12ish, ,-thats not the funny part!!- this is the funny part- her reasoning was that if im going to be skinny she has to join the gym and lose some weight, her round about way of saying, "you cant be skinnier than me". I think she is so use to being the thin woman in the family she just may feel a little threatened by me!! LOL
God forbid im thinner than her!!!!
Anyway, its given me a real goal to aim for now!!
TO BE THINNER THAT MY MOTHER-IN-LAW !!!!! LOL

Anyway, good luck for tomorrow Jess,Len, Mel & Tanya !!!!!!
Cheers Kel.

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Katie,
I continue to use a teaspoon when at home for all my meals. This controls how much I put in my mouth and ensures I chew. When out of course I use a fork but mindful of the size of food on the fork.
I just used a small bread and butter dish at home for my meals so I am assumming the lap band plate is about the same size.I think the teaspoon and small plate helped when I didn't have the band for 6 months to keep my weight to +/- 2 kgs.
If you still hunger for ice cream try sorbet (gluten free. The mango and lemon are especially soothing & tingling to the palate. Less fat/calories to ice cream. Alas I too have had to cut down my banana smoothies in the name of progress :)

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Yeah good luck to everyone for tomorrow!
Mandy, how have you been going on mushies? I started last night and had some rice bake blended up... it was so nice to eat with a fork finally! lol
I have cut out all the ice cream I was having, and did a little exercise and FINALLY lost a bit this morning.
I feel like I'm back on track for the moment which is a nice feeling after 2 weeks of not feeling that great.

I'm also trying really hard with portions... I think I was having a bit too much when I was on liquids because I was so hungry.
I bought the lap band plate which should arrive by the time I'm onto solids, so I hope that will help with getting portions right (at least to begin with)
How is everyone else going?
To those in Melbourne, I hope you enjoy the sunshine today!
Katie xx

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Hi everyone

I'm on day 10 and feeling better each day ... but the thing that doesn't seem to be getting any better is my breath! My husband is making jokes about it and pulling faces but I'm getting worried as I have to go back to work on Mon. I'm drinking plenty of water (1.5 - 2 litres/day) but my tongue is furry and my breath, I'm told, smells like a bear sh@t in my mouth!! I've tried brushing my tongue when I do my teeth but it only slightly improves and it seems to come straight back. Seems worst after having the Opti shakes which I will be ceasing this weekend (thank the lord!)but even on days when I've skipped the Opti it's still bad.

Is anybody else having the same trouble?

I'd be grateful for any suggestions!

Thanks

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Wjana, I went to puree day 10 for two days then stepped it up to chopped and minced over 5-7 days and then day 18 I was instructed to try a normal meal prior to first fill the next day- last Monday. Sunday I also exoerienced extreme hunger for the first time so I was ready for real food.
Now I must state this is my rebanding experience so I already knew the rules: no fluids prior and for 30 minutes after, chew chew try the different textures.

You must always follow your surgeons/dietician advice as everyone is different- different bands, some have already fluid in the band, surgeons operate different in how they put the band on and then there is yourself. Some don't chew, some rush their meals or get distracted whilst eating- all no-no's. You must be free of distraction to concentrate on your chewing when you start the foods.
Some foods work some don't but I am also not eating bread- none since July 08. I am having relatively soft foods like lamb shanks with gravy and rice rissotto but I had a small chicken & chips from Red Rooster.

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
My dietician called me for a phone consult today and said I can start trying foods when I start to feel more hungry and Im only on my first day of mushies. She said to just take it really slowly and chew well and that she would rather I move on than increase my mushies portion. I hadnt said I was hungry because Im not really yet. I think every team has different recommendations and its best to go with what your team advises.

Hi All.
Been having a few internet problems, working one miniute then not the next!!
Sounds like everyone is doing well, lots of newys, its great reading through everyones posts.
All good here. Still trying to stick to 1 - 1/12 cups.
Went for another walk today, decided to walk for 1 hr every 2nd day and do the wii fit every other day,- just to mix it up.
Dont recall who was asking about exercise, but im 3 weeks banded tomorrow, and although i have walked to the shops/safeway everyday, about a 1/2 hr round trip, very casual walk too cos my 2 1/2yr old wants to walk everywhere now - and he is SLOW!!lol only just started the "serious walking" - building up a sweat!!- a few days ago.
Good luck to everyone having surgery in the next few days.
Wishing you all a fast recovery.
Cheers Kel

Mandy, yes Jonathan is in prep and loving it! Six is such a good and fun age..it's a pity they have to grow up.

I'm going really well. I've been very lucky with no pain and no vomitting. I was banded on May 16th so I'm almost 6 weeks and 12 kgs down.

I use to wake up during the night and have to eat cause I was so hungry so it's possible you're having hunger pangs. Don't worry they will go away, it's just means the swelling is going down.

Hi Blodinger welcome to the June 09 bandits!. The first thing I noticed after my small weight loss so far was that my knees arent yelling as much, its a great feeling isn't it!

Kellie so far I am doing ok with my band, the pain is definately easing off although I did wake up with a stomach ache last night and was wondering if maybe it was hunger.
How are you going? Im sorry I cant remember how long you have been banded. Are you glad you did it?
Is Jonathan in prep? I used to love teaching that age as they are so enthusiastic and fun.

Mel good luck for Friday. I think we are all nervous about the adjustments we will have to make to let the band work for us. i think this is why this forum is so great because it lets you know you are not the only one feeling that way! For starters I really did not think I would be able to shake my diet coke addiction but so far so good.

Jana I have only been on a couple of walks and was done a week before you. I definately do NOT think you are being too lazy just yet.
