Hi all, am off for my op tomorrow. I am excited and scared, especially about my new life which starts tomorrow.

Just wanted to say about the shoulder pain ... asked my son (who is an osteopath) about it and he says it is to do with the diaphram being affected during surgery. He recommended that I have a neck adjustment soon after surgery. If it persists an osteopath can stretch out your diaphram. Hope this helps.

See you on the other side

Hi all,
Well it has been 3 weeks tomorrow and most days I am still getting very sore around the port area if I do too much (which really isn't that much at all!). I can't wait to do some walking and some exercise to really get the weight loss happening. Have started eating mushies, yummmmm!!! Can't believe they taste so good. I really enjoy reading everyone's comments - it is amazing how different each person can be. Hope everyone is feeling good about their decision to get banded, I think it is probably the best thing I've done in a longtime. Bye for now, Gaye

Congrats to those who are fitting into old clothes, I have been hopefully trying on a pair of jeans which have never fit me (I bought them online) but still not quite there. Closer than I have ever been before though! lol

I'm struggling a bit with energy at the moment... I am trying to eat a balanced diet to keep my energy up but I just feel so drained. I started taking multi vitamins yesterday, so hopefully that'll help a bit.

Hope everyone is doing well and feeling better! :)

Of course you are welcome in the thread Elektra.

Isn't it great starting to get back into old clothes? I wore my size 16 Not Your Daughters Jeans (they are more like a standard Aus 18) yesterday. I ..uh..."grew" out of them six months ago so it was so lovely feeling the cl ock had been wound back.

Hi Nicky,

I did not have to sip nor did I have any feeling of restriction. The only time I felt any discomfort was just after I got home and I ate some thick lentil soup which was blended but probably too heavy too early.

I think we all vary a bit depending on swelling and whether your doctor put any saline in the band when it is fitted. I know mine doesn't so I am limiting my portions with willpower not any signals from the band yet.

Hi All. I'm an Ozzie who has lived in Godzone (NZ!) for years so can I qualify to "join" your group!!!. I was banded on 19 June by Dr Schroeder in Wellington so Day 9. Really enjoying your comments! Keep up the great work! I've "lost" 6kg since the op but 13 since starting the Optifast 2 weeks before! Yah! I found clothes I'd forgotten today cause I needed to keep warm...brrr

Hey,

I am on day 13 post band and am feeling great, I am managing to eat chunky soup (vitamised of course) after reading some posts I feel like maybe its too good to be true, I don't actually sip anything and a 440g tin of soup goes down without a blink no pain whatsoever... Is that normal, I am starting to think maybe I should be having pain and issues with quantities...

Well home yesterday after being done Friday morning. Feeling VERY sore, didnt realise it would ne this sore, but otherwise all good, shoulder pain has gone now but still cant bend or stand for too long, looking forward to moving forward, feeling a little hungry today, dont know if my tummy is growling for food or just adjusting. Well off to sip some water and looking forward to my clear broth (Mmmm) this afternoon.

Thanks so much Babs, you make a great cheerleader! :) With 30 kilos gone no wonder you are getting lots of compliments, I dont think anyone will compliment me if I lose 30 kilos mainly because they wont be able to recognise me!!

Im sorry I didnt think to mention the pillow earlier JBone.

With regards to the pillow in the car - GREAT idea!!! I was in the unfortunate position of living 90 minutes away from the hospital so i had many bumps on the way home, and that would have been an awesome idea. I feel silly now lol!

That is great advice about the pillow, I will do that as I am fond of my pillow and sounds good for the seatbelt and the trip home. I have shops very close by and also someone to shop but was not sure how I would feel so felt the need to stock up. Perhaps it is the old me always wanting food around. Thanks again - Roll on Tuesday!

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Hi all, I had so many compliments on how good I looked last night at a fund raiser- wowee I am feeling good. I just hope nothing happens to burst my bubble. Why am I suspicious? That is me I suppose.

I am pleased to hear everyone is doing good even if you slip off the rails we know the band is a tool to help us reclaim our lives, a second chance.
This is now the hardest part. We need to understand that psychological eating addiction is very hard to curb. Some require counselling, some simply need something to do especially keeping their hands busy instead of holding food start a craft. You need a good support team around you like a realistic dietician and a good GP.
Mandy considering your renal issues and the poor immunity you are amazing, congratulations. Jana- don't give yourself the upper cut over the pizza. Did you enjoy the friends company you were with? Was there anything else you could have done? I am lucky as I am only able to sniff the aromas of gluten products. Since being gluten and dairy free no belly aches, less farts, less swollen belly. If only I had all that information prior to my first band in August. There is a gluten free factory up the road that even makes meat pies and dairy/gluten free lamingtons thankfully. I am not missing out on too much.
I am starting a boot camp on the 6/7 as I want to keep my skin relatively firm. Almost 30 kgs gone and still pretty good tone. My goal is to learn how to run. I have never learnt how to run and I think that is why I have sufferred injuries. Swimming will be next but I can do that well. I just want a wee bit more time post op before I share the pool.
Congratulations to all the Juneee bandits. Keep up the good work, realise your dreams we all have the power.

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Deb you really wont feel like eating (well drinking really) much when you get home so I wouldn't worry too much about whats stocked in the fridge unless you have nobody to shop for you. I had banana smoothies mostly because I know bananas are really nutritious and milk is protein.

I don't mind the taste of the supradyn but other people dont seem to be fond of it, it is the one they recommend though and its better than fiddling with snapping vitamin tabs so you can swallow them.
I would highly recommend taking your own pillow to the hospital, it can help you sleep better if the one they have isn't what you are used to, you can use it to prop your tummy in bed and most of all you can put it between your tummy and the seat belt and hold it tight to cushion the jolts on the drive home. I put mine in a bright pillowcase so they wouldn't mistake it for a hospital one.

Jana dont kick yourself too much. We have all done this because we couldnt stick to the tiny portions needed to lose our weight without help. If the pizza didnt cause any pain it wont have done any damage so just dust yourself off and say OK well Im glad I wont be able to do that again when they inflate the thing.
I have already stated I would have inhaled a pizza yesterday as i was having a really down day...thank goodness one wasnt waved in front of my face.

PS I dont even much like pizza!

Re:June 2009 bandits Reply to this message
Hi Michelle,
Im sorry to hear your shoulder pain is so bad. I had a hiatus hernia repair with my band and an umbilical hernia repair last year. Both were caused by my large kidneys but the repair is exactly the same. Im feeling much better two weeks out except for the shoulder pain in the shower mostly and am sorry but apart from heat packs and walking I haven't heard of anything that makes it better. I have a friend who was banded 10 years ago and even though she doesn't use her band anymore (and has put back some of her weight) she still gets shoulder pain occasionally.

Hi how are you? I was banded by Dr Talbot at St George Private on the 22nd of June 2009 and have had a really rough week with the shoulder pain. It was excrutiating and nothing I read on the internet makes me feel any better. In saying this, the pain is much better today as I have found exercise is definately helping getting rid of the wind. Terrible pain though, never want to have that again!! Hope you feel better soon. I had a double hernia repair done as well which I wasn't expecting.
