Hi,
Kel are you around? Just wondering if you are feeling any restriction since we had our fills?
I don't think I am but one weird thing has happened and that is it hurts my throat to swallow one half of my largest pill...I used to swallow six or seven tablets at a time so I'm not understanding why half of one should hurt my throat.
I'm not feeling very well at the moment...very weak and yuck. I felt better when I was in Sydney but I think its because I was eating more (and put on 2 kilos in three days!). I think its going to be a really fine line between eating enough to feel OK and little enough to lose weight.
I don't know if anyone else is feeling the same or if maybe its my kidneys etc. I don't feel great on the best of days but this is just really debilitating. |

Hi all
Thanks for the suggestions re mushy food everyone.
And great to read all the updates.
I'm still on mushy for another week (Banded 17/6). I've had the occasional bust out to flat bread, chocolate, cheese etc, but my shoulder pain tends to flare up.
I've found the dishes below filling. I'm only allowed 1/2 cup of food but it seems to hold me for a few hours, so may be worth a go if you are sick of the other food options.
Spaggetti bolognaise - veggie mix, spag bol sauce and mince cooked then pureed. Add taco seasoning to make it spicier. Very satisfying. I didn't add any spaggetti/pasta but if you are getting light headed, you might like to add the carbs in.
Chicken casserole - mushrooms, garlic, onions, asparagus, poached chicken, rice, 1/2 small tin of light condensed milk plus a bit of chicken stock. Cook, mush up, put in pan, top with extra light/slim cheese (Bega Super Slim I find good)then bake at 180 degrees until cheese goes golden. Yummy! I'll eat this even when I'm on solids!!
Chicken Paneer (Indian spinach dish)
Look up a palak paneer recipe online then use cottage cheeses and/or chicken instead of the palak. I added a bit of rice as well to thicken it up.
Tuna (in brine not oil) mixed with low cal mayo. Good for lunch. Add some puree fruit (eg. banana, mango, strawbs) for dessert or veggies on the side to round it out to a healthy meal.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Katie,
I too was banded around the sametime and I have been sick of the mushies so I have started to eat more solids. I have been eating some scrambled eggs, braised steak with potatoe & veges (yummy), have had a little chicken, a piece of toast, crumpet - all seems to be ok you just need to remember to really chew well. I think I need to also slow my meals alot more though. I get my first fill next week so I suppose things might begin to change than. Anyway, goodluck with trying different foods. I hope everything goes well for you.

Good morning everyone, saw the deitician yesterday and had my sting cut off (ha ha) all good.
I am on full mushies, she recommended still having one opti shake but NOT as a meal as well as maybe an afternoon or morning snack as it is full of protein to help with energy levels and light headedness.
So I am going to give this a go, went and did a huge shop yesterday, and yeah I have all the ingredients for those souffles, might do a bit of cooking tonight.
Just finished my sloppy oats. So yummy.
I am also starting my exercise routine today, I have been to sore until now,(and too tired) but feeling fantastic today, what a diffrence some sloppy food makes.
I was also told dont be suprised if I dont loose or even put on at this stage, it is just the body adjusting.
Which we all know but REALLY dont wan to happen. So we have to hang in there.
I also found in the health food aisle some sugar free low GI (fake) white, dark and milk chocolate.
I broke off a little piece last night to suck and O M G.
I felt like I was having real chocolate. I highly recommend it. I think you can also get it in some good larger chemists with the sugar free lollies.
Have a good day everyone and I hope we are all big losers.

I have made a shopping list for the salmon souffle - that is my dinner tomorrow evening and looking forward to it!
No I didnt see the dietician prior and in fact no mention of seeing either, nor did I receive an 8 page document with some eating information. I think I really could have done with it! Never mind, I will see her/him next week!
I have made some of my pureed food a touch thicker to try and combat getting hungy so quickly and this has helped a little.
I am off to Perth for a couple of weeks on Friday and am hoping that I will be able to manage the eating easily without having to puree food.
Take care and hope your recovery speeds up!

Hi Deb H.
Thanks for your note. I am seeing the dietician on Thursday as well as Doc Talbot. I did see the dietician prior to surgery, did you? She gave me an 8 page document which had ideas for post op eating.
BTW the salmon soufle is one of my favourites!

Hey everyone,
Just wondering what everyone is eating at the moment... it's 4 weeks since I was banded and now feel that I can eat a lot more solid type food but I'm scared.... I have eaten some well cooked scalloped potatoes, and some bread with dip. I feel really flat at the moment because I'm really hungry and I'm not sure where I'm at in terms of what I should be eating...
well, hopefully my appt tomorrow night will give me some answers and i can come away feeling motivated again!

Thanks for the recipes - I have been looking for foods that I dont have to puree but where I can still get sufficient protein! Mind you I have taken a relative liking to pureed chicken curry as bad as that sounds!
Sorry to hear that you have not been great since the op- I have noticed a big improvement in just the last 2 days. Prior to that I would often feel light headed when out walking or drinking too fast but I dont seem to now. I have also found my energy levels increasing but like you I am getting hungrier much faster that I did when I came home even though I am eating small amounts.
I lost 2kg in the first few days but have lost very little since so hope that is only temporary.
I am counting down the days until I can eat real food instead of baby food and even "soft" food is not seeming quite as inviting anymore - I am hanging out for a salad which I am missing more than anything!
Do you see the dietician as well as the Dr next week? I think by the time I see the dietician on Thursday I will no longer need them - I think some pre and short term post op advice would have been quite beneficial so am not sure why the dietician visit is so far down the track.
Take care and hope you feel better real soon!

Hi all - I am 10 days post op. I have been hungry but have restricted myself to 3 meals a day of 200ml each. I have made salmon soufle, ricotta & spinach canneloni and today I making Lentil curry (all mushed up of course!) Oh for something crunchy!
I am still achy around the incisions, especially since I removed my dressings. I had three busy days and felt the worse for it. So now I am walking for 1 hour each morning with my dog and them spending the rest of the day curled up in front of the heater on the computer. Dont feel like I am ever going out again!
I dont seem to have lost any weight, however my digestive system is only moving normally the last couple of days, so things may change soon. I am enjoying being looked after by my husband! Lots of cuddles and coffee. |

Hi Minimisingme - Don't worry. My doc said today it was normal to go up and down with the band over time...and even to plateau for a while. The dietician also said that post Optifast, people sometimes gain weight even if they don't lose much.
I managed to lose 0.9 in the last week, so I'm happy - One more week on puree.
I've updated stats below.

Lisa I wish I had that much drive usually..the three hours walking a day was because we were on a short holiday in Sydney so I walked all around the Rocks and Circular Quay one day and then Paddington Market etc another day and then walked from Newtown to my old house in Enmore and back.
Didnt help me much though, I still managed to put on weight and we didnt even go out for dinner! |

Well off to the Dietician and check up tomorrow, will be interesting, on my left side one of the small incisions is a bit red and inflamed and I have a small piece of fishing line sticking out (probably a small internal stitch) I thought it might be a bit of left over and attampeted to just pull it out, but oh no It was attached. OUCH. But not a big deal and no problems otherwise, I am starting to get a bit more hungry, one mushy weet-bix for brekky this morning. YUM. I am still only eating tiny portions but I am hungry an hour or two later.
Took my kids to McDonalds yesterday and was SO SO SO proud of myself, I heated my soup before we left and ordered for the kids and sat with them and drank my soup. If anyone had of told me 6 months ago that I could do that I would still be laughing, but I did and not even tempted to have my usual Big Mac, large fries and choc shake.
Ha Ha Maccas looks like your profits are going down this quarter.
Am teetering between 8 and 9 kilos lost, I am so desperate to get to that magic double digits. Hoping to get to the 10 kilo mark in the next week and a half.
Well have a good day everyone, I just love getting on here and sharing my stories and having the priveledge of sharing yours.

Hey All.
Thought i would share something i did to keep myself motivated.
I went to savers - an op shop - and brought 2 pairs of size 12 roxy jeans, 1 pair of size 14 & 1 pair of size 16 jeans. They only cost about $8 a pair and i love them.
So this is my goal, to eventually get to a size 16 then to 14 then to 12!!(after i get out of the size 20s and 18s!!LOL)
Im going to look at them every day and guilt myself in to exercising! LOL

Hello everyone!
Well I had a fantastic time in Sydney. I tried to make good food choices (just sharing a little of my Dhs lunch etc) and walked for at least three hours a day for the three days but still managed to put on 2 kilos! Grrrrrrrr. In the past it would have made me give up though and this time Im hoping I can ignore the gain and just get back into it.
I had a fill today too Kel! I was chicken and didnt look at the needle. It was not at all as bad as I thought it would be, the injections my husband has to give me every week hurt more. Its just a bit of a sting then an odd feeling. My port has been a bit more obvious and protruding this evening though which was a bit uncomfortable but a heat bag seems to have settled it down. I had myself convinced my port would have van ished and it would be a major drama to have a fill but the doctor found it first time, so if you are getting close to your first fill try not to freak yourself out.
I only have four mls in and have to wait six weeks for my next two ml fill. The doctor said I wont notice anything at all untill I have between six and ten ml in so I guess its back to the willpower.

Miss Katie - Congrats on the ring size change. Yippeee!!
I'm with you on having to learn to deal with things differently (eg. comfort eating, celbratory eating etc).
I treated myself to Indian on Saturday night (mango chicken and korma veggies - pureed of course) to celebrate getting a good price for my house at auction that day. It was SOOOO yummy even thought my dietician would probably not approve of the high cal choice of dish.
It was only afterwards I thought - wow...celebratory eating...I'll need to choose another way to celebrate.
Maybe a manicure or other pampering next time!!
I'd love to hear people's ideas for rewards other than food that are inexpensive.
Lisa
PS> Off to see the doctor and dietician tomorrow. Will update my stats afterwards. |

Hi all,
Fi, I am so paranoid of losing my engagement ring because I can feel it getting loose.. it swings around when I'm driving. I would freak if I lost it lol
Today was pretty average - i had 2 little hash browns and a big m. such wasted calories. It was the epitomy of comforting myself with food and it hasn't stopped since I got home, I still had some cheese and cruskits.
I also had a couple of good moments when 2 different ppl told me I looked great and have lost a lot of weight.
I need to put a stop to the comfort eating pronto though, it's a slippery slope to putting on weight and hating myself for it!
I think I'm really ready for a fill on Friday, I hope Dr Nottle agrees...

Hey Everyone
Had a fill today, a breeze, no pain at all. Is a big needle though!!!
Only 2 ml went in, another app in 2 weeks for 1 ml, 1ml 2 weeks after that then 1/2ml every 2 weeks after that till i get to my sweet spot.
Hoped on the scales and after nearly 5 weeks of banded life---- 10kg lighter!! woohoo.
DOB 115.5 CW 105.5 Still can not feel much difference, maybe a little thinner in the face.
Bring on the next 10kg!!
Cost me $130 for the appointment but got $110 back through medicare, they put it through there and then and the refund went straight back into my account.
Hey Fi.
Even though the freak out of lossing your ring would be bad, the reason for it is fantastic!!! weight loss!!! definatly classes as a NSV!!!!!
Sounds like everyone is going well.
Keep up all the good work.
Cheers Kel. |

Hi all
Funny thing happened this morning.... my wedding ring went missing during the night!
I had been saying to hubby that it was getting a little loose last week, and this morning, just as I was about to leave for work noticed it was gone! I totally freaked... luckily I knew it had to be in the house somewhere as I hadn't gone out in the last 24hrs. I ended up finding it amongst all the bedding -- it had slid off whilst sleeping!!!
Does it count as a NSV??? hehehehe

I found your post interesting re the reaction from the ladies at dance. I am only 7 days post op and already this afternoon I have been asked by one of my thin friends to meet up with one of her friends who is having a battle with her weight to explain the lap band. When she told this friend about me and she was eager to chat with me cos I have had it done even though I am in the very early stages.
I have not regretted my decision to tell people about the lap band and the positives have far outweighed any negative reactions. Most friends have been glad as they have been worried about the effect of my weight on my health. It has also been so much easier during this puree stage and the optifast stage.
I was very lucky pain wise - I had very little pain and stairs in our home were never a problem. The wound sites are a little tender now I have removed the dressings but not too bad. I wouldnt say my pain tolerance is particularly high, rather I think I was just fortunate for what ever reason.
This forum has assisted me a lot and often I read posts from early June bandits to get answers on things I have not been sure of. |

Hi Guys
I am now 11 days post op and I know what you mean Fi, I was in la la land for the first week, very weak and could not concentrate, also not to scare you prettyinpunk but I was a bit shocked how sore I was after surgery, I have a very high pain threshold, 2 kids and NO drugs, and boy I could not get off the couch for 3 days even slept there as we have a 2 story house and there was no way I could get up the stairs, also as we were saying the lack of energy and concentration might be too much with little ones.
But a big good luck to you, it really is worth it.
A bit more of a ramble, I also was very sheepy with who I told, it was more that I was embarassed that I have failed at EVERY diet and didnt want to admit to people that this was my last chance, but now I am down 9 kilos and starting to feel really good. I was as my daughters dance class yesterday and someone said "you look like you have lost weight Mel" well I shocked myself.
I jumped up and said I am glad as I had a lap band put in last week, the silence was defening.
"You did not"
Oh yes I did and pulled up my shirt to show my scars.
WHAT THE. . . . .
I just felt so liberated telling people, I then had 3 or 4 ladies come over and ask me all about it and a few are even considering the surgery, I now have my own little support group there who I can say sorry not for me girls I had a fill or even not having a good day and can have a winge to.
I am in the beauty industry and see many clients every day and dont really want to go over the whole story 10 times a day so will not keep it a secret but will not advertise the fact either, but believe me it is FANTASTIC to have someone to share it with. Other than my imediate family and friends.

Hi Peter
It's tough not having something to chew isn't it!!
My clinic's dietician stressed that the band and tummy need time to heal - even if you can physically eat normal food. The risk is that if you stretch your stoma, or upset the band there is a chance you will have to have surgery again. She was reading me the riot act because I had some bread and cheese - which went down fine at the time. I had bread once after her advice and it got stuck - so lesson learnt.
Every doctor and clinic is different in terms of their advice so check with your doctor/clinic.
Hope that helps
