| Hi there. New to this forum (any forum for that matter!) I am planning on having lap-band surgery on June 8th in Mexico. Has anyone else done this in MX? Appears professional and the contact people have been wonderful. Although, I have to admit, I am getting cold feet as I am imagining the worst. Thanks for the warm welcome. Should I post this some other way or does this start a "thread?" |

Hi Catherine
Welcome! You will find that you will get more response if you post messages/questions in 'General Chat #2'
I will try to answer your questions here anyway....
Life after surgery for most means a bit of pain for a few days maybe a week, but if you keep on top of it with pain relief youll be fine. For the first week or so its liquids only, then you move onto mushy foods, and eventually normal foods. Everyone is different, but most cannot eat bread or tough meats like steak anymore. That is something im ok with if it means I lose weight! Dont be nervous about eating or vomiting....before youre banded it all sounds so bad, but really its not! Basically if you dont chew something properly or eat too fast, it can get stuck and cause you some pain. To relieve the pain, it usually has to come back p, but its not like vomiting, more like spitting out food that you have chewed mixed with a bit of saliva. It doesnt taste all vomity because it hasnt been in your stomach and mixed with the acids etc.
You will learn really quickly what you can and cant eat...
I havent had any health issues since surgery...things have only improved! So dont stress and we will all be here to help you if you have any questions!
Cheers
Jem

| I am new to the Lapband Forum and would like to ask those of you that have had the surgery about their lives after their surgery was done. I am scheduled for my surgery on April 24, 07 and I am nervous about eating problems and if vomiting is a big problem for most patients? Have you had a lot of health issues after surgery or problems feeling ill? Please write and let me know what to expect! Thanks. |

Hi, this is my first time here; and I just wanted to share my banding experience...I was banded almost 2 weeks ago and can happily say I am surviving the fluid diet (just)..I am having my fill this wednesday and am looking forward to the next stage..so far i have lost around 5 kg (mystarting weight was 93) and feel great...
I am very motivated and on track, but worried about losing the motivation and skill to eat properly....
I still have a long way to go, but hopefully this will be the best thing i ever chose to do. |
