Hi everyone, haven't posted for a little while as things have been rather hectic, finally the chance tho to sit down and catch up on the posts and see how things have been for everyone!
Well I am 18 days post op, not quite sure if I am doing well or not???? which probably sounds strange! I am actually finding that I am getting quite hungry, I have a tub of yoghurt for breakfast and another for lunch, omlette or fish and potato or something similar for tea. Sometimes an extra petit miam inbetween. I have lost 4kg's since the op but haven't lost anything in over a week so wondering if I am having to much??? I have no prob at all eating a tub of yoghurt, occasionally get reminded at tea time to slow down or chew better with just a bit of chest discomfort. How does this compare with where everyone else was at this stage? Opinions would be much appreciated!

Hi Vicky,
The scales are still jammed. I had lost 24.7kg's until I went on mushies, but during that time I put on .5kg which brought my weight-loss to 24.2kg's. This brings my curent weight to 95.8kg's. I had my first fill of 2ml's in a 14ml band on Friday and hopefully it will give me some restriction...however small. Dr D said he was delighted with my progress but he said I still had some hard work ahead and he wants to give me another fill on Nov 28th. At the moment I do not feel much, if any restriction, but I'll be careful with portion size etc and eat healthy until the next fill.
Cheers

Hey Brian,
How's your weight loss going? Can I ask how much you've lost now that you're a few weeks post surgery? Still in awe of how well you did before you even got to surgery!

| I really dont want to leave this the way it is..I apologise if I have hit a raw nerve with you however I wont apologise for my feelings I have my own issues at the moment I dont want to argue geographies with you, i dont wnt to argue full stop but if there is going to be any animosity on here from now on I think ill remove myself from this website. I have been told how to feel and what to say for most my life, and i was taken aback that you focused solely on my not liking kal rather then the reason why. I just didnt think you had much right questioning me without knowing my situation fully |

thanks for that info I dont want to ''indear'' anybody really i am simply entitled to an opinion.this is a sounding board and ill use it. my partner is a born and bred kalgoorlie man and loves the place and has been underground all his working life.I too love wa and will never go back to vic to live So to those who think i am some city slicker from melb bagging the place think again we along with many other born and breds we mix with are saddened that with all the money that we generate in taxes here there isnt a great deal to show for it. My intentions were not to offend anybody and im sorry if i did I am simply frustrated that time and time again we are treated like 2nd class citizens because we are from kal and it makes me angry that kal DOSENT provide services that it SHOULD especially when the industry we all work in here plays a massive part in keeping the country going. So yes as a future mother, as the wife of a miner, as a mining worker myself and an obese woman in need of help it makes me angry when things that should be at hand arent.
not liking where im living runs alot deeper than just that believe me. I have no intentions of hurting anyones feelings i am simply entitled to my opinion and in a way resent being pulled up on it. have a great day |

Kim,
Once you see Dr. D he will send you off to get blood tests, have a liver scan and to see his anaethetist. You will also see a dietician and attend a pre-administration clinic before the op. This all happens much closer to your op....about a month before. No use getting bloods done soon if you have a year to wait.
He doesn't require you to see a psychologist like many in the Eastern states do in order to know if you are mentally prepared for such a huge lifestyle change. He certainly lets you know what lies ahead as a bandit. In fact I actually asked for a referal to a psychologist...I knew 150% that this is what I wanted but I felt I wanted to sort thru some other things. But he couldn't help me so I just went to my GP.
vikki
PS Know you were having a disappointing day last week being told that Dr. D couln't do your op thru the public system....but you won't indear yourself to the WA crowd bagging Kal. Please don't be offened by this comment..... I just want to give you the heads up so to speak! We pride ourselves on being very supportive and friendly to all on this site! |

Hi Michelle
Good to see you back - stop being so hard on yourself - you were dis-railed for a while but now your back on track. I thinking doing optifast is a good idea and you will see results soon. My loss is good but not as fast as i'd like but that is my fault as my portion sizes are too big. I did optifast for 2 days last week to get it moving again - might do the same thing this week to. I hope my next fill on 20th November will make a difference. I hope you can come to Joondalup for our catch up session! I'll be down from Gero for the day and flying back that afternoon.
Think positive!

Hi Linda
Now if you are up to see Vikki chatting then its you vics that are burning the midnight oil as it will still only be 9.30 here while its 12.30 there!
Hi Ali
Welcome - we all felt like you do now! Congrats on a date, make sure you post it over on the Surgery Dates thread. I loved bread too but don't miss it at all now. I use a very thin pitta bread to wrap up ham and salad. I woudn't even try giving bread ago and I have had a few blockages and know hoe painful it can be so I'm completely scared off it lol.
Lots of pros and cons to the op - Its weird to say I miss my eating but part of me does - but stoked at 8.3kg loss so far.

Thanks Brian!
Your info is a great help to me. I too will possibly make the transition a little earlier..as I did with moving into Mushies. I feel ready and I look forward to some Chicken and salad...might start with Salmon steak and salad. And I will dig out the Lean Cuisines I have.
So Dr. D is going to make you work for your loss! Gosh I hope he doesn't say that to me!
I can well imagine you enjoyed those few glasses of Merlot...mmmm Good for you! I bet you enjoyed them more than ever.

Hi Vikki,
Dr D told me not to expect too much restriction and that there was still a bit of hard work required of me. I am on fluids for the next few days which is ok by me. I had a TF Field Mushroom soup for tea and it was yum. Not sure if I was full, but I really did not feel like anything extra. I had a glass or three of Cabernet Merlot tonight also...a bit naughty I know but I had an hour on the treadmill and for brekkie I had 2 rice thins with light philli and lunch was cup a soup.
Regarding the transition from mushies which I started 2 days early. I had Lean Cuisine Cannelloni, Seafood Salad, poached Snapper, Thin Rice Crackers, tinned Red Salmon, Sardines, Chicken Korma a couple of small pieces of vintage cheddar, cabbage, Cauli, Broccoli. |

Glad to hear the fill went well. 14ml band... I haven't heard of that size. No wonder you had no restriction. So are you on fluids for a few days now?
Still want to know what you have been able to eat coming off Mushies....salad etc?? I've decided that my weight "stand still" is the result of a week of mushy high carb food ( cereal, rice, pasta, potato etc ) so I can't wait to have some more protein and salads and see it I can move my scales.
Well I'm off for a walk with my hubby. I've decide that I need to 'up the ante' and have felt more than up for some exercise this week..just haven't done it!
Jane so happy for you that you have your date!!!

Well done, Brian...your at the next goal post !! Wind for me was pretty usual after a fill...and should be fine after a good walk to clear the air (so to speak). Your new restriction is just adjusting, and you might be sucking in a little more air (tiny gulps) when you are drinking (being cautious with the new adjustment)...I know I was a little scared how it would feel and react when I had a fill.
It will pass - lol - Brian,

Had my appointment with Dr D today and he was surprised and delighted with my weight-loss to date. he told me I have a 14ml band and today he put 2ml's in and I have to go back in 4 weeks for another fill. He said I will feel a slight restriction at this stage, but he prefers to fill in 2ml increments to be safe and reduce the possibility of vomiting. The fill itself was a piece of cake with no pain at all. I did feel a strange sensation in my upper chest, but that's all. He suggested a drink before I left the surgery and I thought he meant a single malt or something similar. Anyway gave me a drink of water to make sure it went down ok, which it did without any problems. He said it was ok for me to have a "drink" but to watch the calories. I had a cup of tea when I came home and now feel a little windy. Has anyone else experienced this?
Cheers

Oh, the Optiyuk, Brian...well I have become quite creative, you know (and cheat a little) !! I blend about 6 strawberries in my vanilla shake in the morning, tolerate my choc shake with salad (and a bit of tuna/cheese protein) for lunch, stirfry mash my veggies (sort of pretend bubble and squeek) and put a fresh passionfruit in my choccie mousse at night....and (I hate to say) actually enjoying it.....oh did I mention the 6 Maltezers....mmmm....need ed to treat myself. Going ok, though.
Cheers

Today's the day of my first appoint with Dr D following my op and I hope he gives me a fill. The past two weeks have been really hard since going on mushies. My appetite has really returned with a vengeance and I have put on .5kg. I have been really diligent in measuring portions and exercising and I am pretty disappointed to find that my weight has increased. Anyway, today will tell.
