sorry Cath, dont want to alarm you, just lending support, guess i was feeling a little 'usa' that day.
i am looking forward to my next fill, the weight is going slowly but, i 'd like it to be faster...would nt we all.
I've been so good not eating any c r a p*** , but last night i had the hungrys, and after soup and salad, still needed something, so some apple crumble and cream did the job. i'm going to get a big walk in every day this week to hopefully kickstart some more weight loss, and also some weight training. I'm definately booking in for another fill when i get back to Sydney, i can still eat and not feel too full, and this one has to be at the radiology clinic as both doctors are away when I'm back. crossing my fingers for 2 or 3 mls. that should make a difference i hope.
so thats in 3 1/2 weeks, gotta be tough on myself fo the next few weeks, lucky got heaps of distractions here.
how's everyone else going, and may 09 nsv's??
im into some smaller bras, so thats good. but i wouldrather say, i have walked an hour each day!, i hope i can say that at the end of this week.
in 2 months time things will al hopefully have settled down for all of us.
have a great week everyone, cross your fingers for some snow please, xx karen |

Thanks everyone for the kind wishes. They definitely give me a lift. Bit worried about you Karen though, just exactly how often are you rooting for me??
My eldest son turned 19 yesterday. Seems like such a short time ago that he arrived, tiny, three weeks early and very blonde. He's a big fella now and I worry that his tendency to overeat is so like mine.
My closest friend is overseas so I have an extra two boys, seven kids to feed this weekend.
Great to see progress with the weekly weigh in. I promiose to join in again after my fill.

Hi Everyone,
My weigh in is after food and drink this morning, which is exciting! I must admit though - my overfill last weekend was the biggest contributor to my good loss this week! Can't wait to crack the 10kg mark! Fingers crossed for next week!
Hope everyone is doing well! I'm finally back home, which is just lovely. It's been a crazy week.
Much love, positive thoughts and kind wishes to all of you!

I know what you mean. I had my fill over a week ago and I feel no restriction and I am not losing any weight. I was hoping for 1kg a week and I am losing nothing - not happy. What do I do? Do I wait until my next appointment in 3 weeks time? HELP.

Chin up girls! If you aren't feeling so great - you can share. Perhaps we could give you a lift, rather than you "bringing us down"! I'm always here to listen... (or read)!
I'm just popping in from Brisbane. Had a crazy full on week! The food part was interesting as we had alternate drops for dinner each night and set lunches as well as buffet breaky! lol. Actually, reading about the drinking whilst eating thing - ive been instructed to do the no liquids 30mins prior and after, however, in the interest of avoiding a public blockage whilst eating with lots of people this week, ive been drinking a little with meals (lots of champagne included in this!) - and i still get full just as quickly!! So, im not sure if it makes a huge difference once you get really tight restriction. It was an interesting discovery for me, as i naturally thought the drink would flush the food through, letting me consume more. Apart from the copious amounts of alcohol i consumed two days this week (!!!), ive managed to eat pretty well away from home. Hopefully the scales reflect this tomorrow when i weigh in. Speaking of which... no Friday weigh in guys??? Let's keep it all going so we are all motivated and striving to do better!
Miss talking to you all daily!
Love,

Sorry Nonny, no you definitely don't smell. I reading but haven't felt much like contributing because I feel down and didn't want to drag anyone one down with me. I feel like I'm back at square one, overeating, luckily not gaining but just doing nothing and no fill for a few more weeks.I have had a few people ask me if I'm losing weight and I just feel frustrated. Sorry.

THE GOLDEN RULES OF EATING AND EXERCISE
1. Eat three or less small meals per day
2. Do not eat anything between meals
3. Eat slowly and stop when no longer hungry
4. Focus on nutritious foods
5. Avoid calorie containing liquids
6. Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day
7. Be active throughout each day
8. Always keep in contact with us
The book I was given (The Lap-Band Solution a Partnership for weightloss by Paul O'Brien MD) contained the 8 Golden rules (as copied above) and none of them mention drinking while eating. So after everyone saying things on the forums here about drinking before during and after meals I had to ask my surgeon when I saw him.
He told me to feel free to drink before a meal and after one but never during as it could wash food through the band faster and mean that I consume more.
Well I am soo happy with this as I generally sip sip sip all day. I have managed to not drink when eating but I am definitely ready to drink something when I am finished my meal and I am allowed to.
This just highlights in my belief that we need to communicate with our surgeons on these matters and not blindly accept what we are told on the forums by others. It can be something simple like this or it could relate to something more important. Always check!

Gem, unfortunately I will have to repeat as it was an assignment worth 70% and I applied for special consideration due to medical grounds and they knocked me back. I think the surgeon ticked the box that said my op would have moderate impact on my ability to study instead of severe impact. I should have appealed but just couldn't be stuffed. Oh well back to the drawing board.

Hi banditos
I hope everyone is well,
wow Fairy, mad with all those fills! you are so expereienced, you '' be like our fill guru.
im sick with tonsillitis, so not eating much, and away from scales here in the snow, but im working hard pysically already and my pants are falling down, which i a totally not bothered about.
i dont think i am feeling my restriction yet, but im being careful with everything i eat still. even though i did have a couple little squares of dark chocolate last night, and that was enough amazingly.
lots of green tea here as well to help boost metabolism - im using all the tricks i know that have been up my sleeves for so long to help along the way. my g friends up here are very suportive and halpful, so wonderful days . cant wait for a slide!
love and hugs

Deb yep it is so you don't wash the food thru and feel hungry. It was explained to me that the 30 mins gives the body signals and you won't want to eat then for at least 3 hours.
I was told to drink in the 10 mins prior to eating, take 30 mins to eat, then wait 30 mins and drink again. :) |

Hi Deb, glad to hear all is going well..
From what I have been told the reason you shouldn't drink with meals because the fluid will basically break up any food and push it down through the band into the lower stomach not causing that full sensation which would defeat the whole purpose of having a band. I think of it as like a funnel. I hope I've helped, I'm sure someone else could do a better job of explaining though. I'm surprised your dietician didn't tell you this.

Morning all,
I was banded on the first of June and all is good and getting used to my band. Just a quick question, I have read and been told not to drink with meals. I think the rule is nothing to drink 15 mins before, nothing during and wait till 1 hour after food. Can someone pls explain why?
Thanks so much.

| Glad to hear you're feeling better marg! That must have scared the c rap out of u. Had a dreadful day today. MAJOR blockage from only 1/4 cup of food. Took over 4 hours to clear it (and over 10 pb's!!!). Scared I've done some major damage but it was my own fault, too dry food and eaten too fast. When is my brain going to remember to view eating and food differently???? Sorry to hear about your exams cath. Can u use your op as a reason to resit?? |

Hi Cath,
I can sympathize with you about the subject - but that really does suck about having to repeat. I struggled with my exams because i missed a bit post-op. Just hoping to s c r ap e through. 4 fills since banding i think... and one little itty bitty unfill hehe. And im already hungry! Maybe the reflux wasn't that bad... haha

Hi Marg, sorry to hear about your overfill. How many fills have you had since banding altogether? You live and learn with this band don't you? Well I never did get my assignment in so I will have to repeat that subject next year. Bummer! I think having the op really stuffed up my motivation to study this semester. Have fun in Brissy.
