thanks for that axtradexil. Today was my first full day of food since I was tightened.
Breakfast was about 1/4 cup of porridge. I was stuffed with it. I also know what you mean about eating for hunger or other reason :) |

Kerrie
I am like you, I feel the restriction straight away, it may feel a little tighter the next day but if passes. I went to a forum recently and the surgeon said that it takes about 4 months to work out the right amount of fill as all patients are different.
I have had about 6 fills now over nearly a 2 year period, I rarely feel hungry. As for me I have to decide whether I am hungry or whether I am eating for some other reason.

axtradexil, I have read a few times on here that people say it takes a week or 2 for the band to kick in after a fill. I suppose what I am asking is what they mean by that.
I felt my restriction straight away. So I guess I am wondering if over a week or 2 it gets tighter and thats why some take so long to feel the effects of it. |

Date of Banding: 27 May 2009
Date of 1st Fill: 29 June 2009
Total Weight Loss 13.9kg
2nd Fill: 10 August.
OMG, what a saga to have the fill...surgeon couldn't find port so had to go to Radiology, who was able to do it under X-Ray...2 to 3 mls in as instructed.
A also had a Seroma above the port: A seroma is a pocket of clear serous fluid that sometimes develops in the body after surgery. He was able to drain about 20 to 30 mls off.
Goal now is to lose a kilo a week before next visit.

I am not sure that I know what you mean. Do you mean how do you know if the band is working? Are we feeling restriction? |

| Just a question to those that say its a week or 2 after that the band kicks in. When you say that, do you mean that when you had the fill it didn't trigger you were full after only a bit and now it does or what do you mean? |

Hey Jan - congrats on the double digits! That's awesome! Make sure you celebrate it! It's a great achievement.
I'm finding my food intake is almost nothing these days - which worries me a little. The weight is falling off at the moment, but i feel a little sheet. Bought some more supplements today - some more multi's and some calcium chewables to try and perk me up. I have to consciously make a decision to eat, otherwise i dont. My hunger pangs only happen once or twice a day and go away quickly if i dont address them. It's really odd.
Anyway, i have my fingers crossed to be in the 70s on Friday for weigh in! I can almost smell it!
Much love,

Hey everyone :). I had my 3rd fill yesterday after going back to see my surgeon and complaining that I felt I had no restriction after my fill only a week ago. He put another 1.5ml into my band bringing it up to 5.5ml. Finally I feel like I am on my way .. this morning I could only eat half a banana before I was wayyyy full. I am also very pleased I managed to still lose 1.1kg over the last week even with being able to eat much more than I would have liked. I've finally broken into double digits ... 98.8 on my scales this morning .. woooohoooo!!!!!

I don't think I have another fill now for 3 months unless I feel its not working. |

Glad to hear the fill went well Kerrie! 2 hours sounds very intensive! But worth it in the long run! I have my fingers and toes crossed that you find great restriction now!

Yeah I know what you mean. Sometimes I forget I've had the banding and I go to skull a drink and it's not long before I remember to slow down lol
I am due for my 2nd fill on 24th July, I wish it were sooner. I'm going to ask for another 1.5mls. I have 2mls in at the moment. I feel restricted but not enough.
Just think of all that weight you're losing going to the toilet!? lol just kidding.

today the toilet has been my friend. The gunk they give to watch it go thru the band is like epson salts to me. I could also feel the band filling which was a bit weird.
I am on liquids for 2 days atm and not having too much trouble but having to drink it slower otherwise it seems to "catch" if that makes sense, but still goes thru. |

| Kellie, because of my weight. The next one will be done the same until I am down to about 130kg I think it is. Then the dr can feel it to be able to do the fill. :) |

Hi kerrie, I just read your blog. It sounds like you went through so much just to have a fill. Just curious as to why you had it done under ultrasound?

Hi Girls,
Trace - lovely to hear from you! It's hard without fill - it's basically like being on a diet, and none of us want to be doing that! Don't worry though - Aug will come quickly and then you will be losing losing losing!
Good luck with the fills Rhiain and Kerrie! 5ml does sound like heaps, but im sure your surgeon knows what he's doing! Hopefully the scales will start to move for everyone soon! I know it's really hard to stay positive! Especially when we all want to be skinny yesterday! hehe. Our time is coming!
Much love,

Hi Girls,
This whole weight loss thing is such a struggle. I had such great expectations, so am very dissapointed at the moment - am totally with you all. I have barely any restriction. I did find though that I was trying to have tiny meals and so would be hungry in an hour and then want to pick. I have upped my meal size so at least I'm not eating bad snacky food (As much) I was really hoping for a kg a week, but have been platoed now for weeks. I am hoping for another 4 kg before my daughters 5th birthday which would have made me the weight I was before getting pregnant. No sign of a fill though until 4th August. GGRrrr!!! My 1 ml is very lonely!!
Anyway - school holidays now - which I love. Nice to have the house buzzing.
love Trace |

sorry Cath, dont want to alarm you, just lending support, guess i was feeling a little 'usa' that day.
i am looking forward to my next fill, the weight is going slowly but, i 'd like it to be faster...would nt we all.
I've been so good not eating any c r a p*** , but last night i had the hungrys, and after soup and salad, still needed something, so some apple crumble and cream did the job. i'm going to get a big walk in every day this week to hopefully kickstart some more weight loss, and also some weight training. I'm definately booking in for another fill when i get back to Sydney, i can still eat and not feel too full, and this one has to be at the radiology clinic as both doctors are away when I'm back. crossing my fingers for 2 or 3 mls. that should make a difference i hope.
so thats in 3 1/2 weeks, gotta be tough on myself fo the next few weeks, lucky got heaps of distractions here.
how's everyone else going, and may 09 nsv's??
im into some smaller bras, so thats good. but i wouldrather say, i have walked an hour each day!, i hope i can say that at the end of this week.
in 2 months time things will al hopefully have settled down for all of us.
have a great week everyone, cross your fingers for some snow please, xx karen |
