Hi Girls,
Well, I'm excited to report im over the half way mark! 19kg down, and 17.4kg to go to hit goal of 55kg! It's really quite exciting. My weightloss was going pretty slow this week, then just fell off in the last 48hours. I was actually panicking that i might have to hit the gym! lol. We have set a date for the wedding - Aug 7 2010, so in order to go dress shopping i need to be at goal by Feb at the latest i think! So, it's all positive thinking from me, and lots of fingers crossed!
Hope everyone is travelling ok this week. It would be great to hear from Cath and Trace if you're still checking in - miss you girls!
Much love,

Thank you so much Gem. I will try these things. I have never found exercise to work in the past, but I will give it a go - things are different now.
I really appreciate your support and I will let you know how I go.
Thanks again,
Katie |

When I've hit a plateau, here's some tips I've used:
* change to 5-6 small meals a day (keeps your metabolism high and I need it for energy levels)
* exchange 1-2 meals a day with an opti shake or 1/2 opti choc bar (I still do this more so due to time restrictions in the mornings)
* ensure every meal contains protein. Also eat the majority of the protein before the rest of the meal too (helps with supressing appetite sooner...apparently)
* eat carbs only before lunch time if you can, eg I try eat my pasta/rice/starch vegies at lunch, protein & veg only at dinner
* increase water intake (I'm dreadful at this so can't really preach this one!)
* exercise in the morning rather than evenings to keep your metabolism higher throughout the day.
* vary your exercise routine (differing cardio methods each day, weight bearing activities). I'm also dreadful at keeping to this one too!! lol
* Swap snacks and drinks with healthy alternatives (eg I've swapped my 2 daily lattes made with 1 sugar each to green tea - boosts metabolism with no sugar or calories)
* I love spicy foods (made with chilli, ginger etc) which apparently is also a metabolism booster...bonus!!
* recognising we retain fluid at different times of the month...and not to beat myself up about not loosing, or even gaining especially when I've been doing everything right.
These are just the tips that are helping me Katie, other's may have different methods or suggestions. I'm not 'dieting' but am more focused on getting the nutrients with each meal and re-educating myself on portion sizes. Hope this helps, we're all here for you and look forward to hearing how you're going.

Hi Katie
I read your email this morning and must admit it's been on my mind all day. It's vital to discuss your concerns with your surgeon and dietician. They'll evaluate what you're doing and look at different options. Although we often feel like we're on our own, we forget we have a 'team' involved in this journey that can guide and support us.
I can feel your disappointment though and can only encourage you to not give up, we all loose at different rates.
I'll jot down some of the tips I've been using to get me past 'plateaus'..... |

Hi Katie,
I'm not sure! If you are doing everything right, then i really dont know. Are you exercising? I'm not sure if that will make a difference because im not really exercising at the moment either - but it's different for everyone, so maybe exercise will kickstart the weightloss? Perhaps you need to speak to your surgery team/dietician, and see what ideas they have?
I'm sorry i can't help much, but i thought i should at least respond to you, to offer my support. I know there is a PCOS thread on this board, so perhaps you could ask the question of others with PCOS, and see whether slower weightloss is typical?

Hi All,
Well I was so excited about losing 1kg last week, and now I have put on 1/2 kg.
What is going on? I have only lost 6kg since banding on the 18/05/09.
I am really upset, I am watching what I am eating, only good things, small sizes, what is going on - why can't I lose weight like everyone else.
I do have PCOS and am wondering if that is slowing me down? Is there anyone else that is really slow at losing weight, because I am thinking I am the only one.
Thanks,
Unhappy Katie |

Awesome weight loss this week Marg - WELL DONE!!! I'm off to Adelaide to see my sis for a few days so will be interesting to see if there's any changes to my band restriction from the altitude.
Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend, looking forward to hearing how we're all going!!

I so want to be like the rest of you all and lose the weight fast.
I think everyone has been doing so well I am jealous, but here is hoping it will start to catch up.

Sorry Marg, forgot to mention - I'm having the same problem re the taste of water too. I'll be lucky if I manage .5 ltr a day (bad bad, *slap on the hand for me*).
I've been having lemon & barley cordial (from Coles). I've also been drinking my own lemon lime bitters blend (bitters, lemon cordial, dash of lime juice and water).
Cold peppermint & ginger iced tea is also a favourite. |

hi marg
I've been comparing my stats to yours too!!! LOL I have to admit I was very jealous when you went into the 70's!! Your progress has been amazing!
Spot on re the compliments - I just don't see much change at all when I look in the mirror. I know the scales and my clothes are telling me different however I still feel the same (albeit with more confidence than pre-banding) but still have the same inner demons.
Hope everyone else is doing well and you pop in to say hello soon.

Yeh, i can relate to the compliments thing Gem. I find i cannot see the difference in my reflection at all. I'm still fat - so i dont understand why people say anything! lol. Oh well.. im sure it's just something that will "click" eventually. You're doing really well with your loss! Our stats are pretty close, so that's great for me to see im on track in comparison. Sometimes i have a quick squiz at the june or july threads and always feel a little bummed that they've all lost more than me already!!! Ah wells, i spose we're all different.

Hi girls
It's been a while since I last posted and yes, have noticed we've all been a bit quiet lately. Hope everyone is doing ok???
I've had my ups and downs too. Felt very disolutioned and depressed for a while there where I'd plateued for nearly 6 weeks after my first fill (5ml). Could (and did!!) eat everything with no restriction at all. Had my 2nd fill which shocked me back into 'banded' life, the difference in 1ml was amazing, couldn't even eat mushies let alone solids! Had .5ml out and now have restriction after solid food and my appetite seems to have decreased too.
Whilst I've had my ups and downs, I've never regretted my decision. The hardest part I'm finding is trying to replace emotional eating habits. I am also finding it very hard to take compliments from people about my weight loss too. Strange eh? Is anyone else finding this??

| Hi Marg. There is a really nice low cal lemon cordial i get. I can't remember what brand it is but it is in a glass bottle, not a plastic one. I don't have any left so i can't go and have a look. |

Hi Girls!
Gee, we've gone a little quiet in here. How are you all going? I can only hope we are quiet because we are out living our new healthier lives! I hope everyone's weightloss is progressing steadily. It would be lovely to have an update from you all. :-)
Well, i finally beat obesity yesterday! I'm now officially "overweight" according to my bmi! Woot! It was a very exciting milestone! Now it's a case of 60s... here i come!
I have found i have some really pitiful weightloss weeks, followed by a good one. I have fairly good restriction, im happy with it, and dont think i will be going back for any more fills in the foreseeable future. My diet, however, really does need some work! I'm usually too tight to eat in the morning or early afternoon, and prefer as smooth option for dinner - so i eat a lot of custards, milk, stuff with a more mushy consistency as i havent mastered the art of chewing before swallowing yet! And then there are some days when i can eat "normal", like today i just had a tiny piece of crumbed very average grade steak! I hardly drink any water though as i find it tastes terrible post-banding. Speaking of which, can anyone recommond a low cal really yummy cordial??
I measured my waist yesterday for the first time since banding and have lost 22cms i think. I'm now 84cms round! lol! Almost to that "healthy" 80! My clothes are ridiculously loose on me, but as im busy saving for a wedding, i think its silly to waste money on "interim" clothes. So i will swim amongst the folds of fabric that used to almost choke me, for now!
Well, that's my little progress report for now!
Much love,
Marg :-) |
