Rhiain,

I too, was hungry a few days post op. I think some people just bounce back quicker than others, and hunger is a sign that you are healing. I even had 3mL of fill in my band at that stage and found myself ravenous! I can definitely understand. I think, be very sensible. Try and stick to liquids, or at worst, mushy food. Kerrie makes a good point about carbs - make sure you try to have a good amount of protein and see if that satisfies you. Looking at your food diary for yesterday, i can't see anything really wrong with it. Good on you for limiting the maltesers! Well done!

Best wishes,
Marg :-)

Hey Ange,

I'm eating all foods. Havent tried fresh bread, but dont eat it really anyway. I can eat toast without too many problems tho. I just have to take it a bit slower when food is dry, otherwise i get that whole blocked up indigestion feeling.

I'm definitely feeling satisfied. My intake is way smaller. Starting to post on food diary when i remember, so have a quick peek there if you want an idea of what im eating exactly. Most foods, however are quick and convenient choices - im always busy!

Congrats on resisting the chips! I have a weakness for them - so i can understand what an accomplishment it must be to be in front of them and not feel any desire to eat them! Good on ya!!

Rhiain, another suggestion is to ring your dietican. Tell him what you have been having and he can give you ways to stop the hunger and a healthy eating plan :).

Rhiain be careful not to stretch your new stomach while it is healing. Also remember that carbs give you hunger. I found that the only time I got hungry was when I had chicken and corn soup blended but it was only 1/2 cup amount.

Another tip is when you have something have a drink just prior and then don't have a drink until 30 mins after your soup etc. If you have water it washes it thru and doesn't give time for your brain to say "I'm not hungry"

Like I said I had 3 optifast a day and had 125mls chicken noodle soup strained if I felt hungry. Also had to still have the 3 litres of fluids.

OOh i forgot to say, we changed my dressings tonight, and they are all healing really well! I'm allergic to most dressings, but we have found one (duo derm) that seems to be okay so far... cos i cant have steri strips, they are a little wider than normal, but looking good! when i can have the whole lot off, i'll make some steri strips from the duo derm to help pull it all together... *smiles*

Re:May 09 Bandits! Reply to this message
Hi,
I dont have any problems with movement (#2's) though mum (who is a nurse) said that the barium that you have for the barium swallow can really block you up so we brought some laxatives to take just in case... seems i haven't had a problem with it but its good to know the are still there..., i'm getting a small amount of diaphragm pain when breathing deeply, so i'm trying to do that as much as possible to help stretch out the area. I only barely survived on optifast the first time around, i dont think i could do another 2 weeks of it now!

todays food...

B (10am): 250ml drinking yoghurt
L (1pm) : 1 ladle of Chicken & Corn Soup (from Chinese shop)
S (3pm) : 6 large malteasers
D (6pm) : 250ml homemade Chicken, potato & leek soup
S (7pm) : 6 large malteasers
S (10pm): 250ml Orange Juice

depending on how much longer i'll be up for I may have another 250ml of drinking yoghurt...

Do you think this is okay?

Rhiain

Rhiain I had to have the optifast still on the liquid part and had thin soups with that and found I didn't get hungry.

Re:May 09 Bandits! Reply to this message
Hey Girls,

Well I think I'm being very very bad! I'm really struggling with the liquid post op stage, i've been having some reasonable thick soups (Chinese chicken & sweetcorn - not blended & mums home made chicken and veggie - not bleneded) and last night I had some bread dunked in the pumpkin soup I had and I had a choc top at the movies (didnt eat the cone).... i'm only 4 days post op, but am finding myself reasonable hungry. I'm still only having small amounts when i do eat, but finding that I need to eat (drink) every 2 - 3 hours. Does anyone think this is doing me damage?

G'day Maybees,
Last day of May, didn't our month go quick?
I feel a bit sore this evening because my overweight lab, Hazel rolled in dead roo and we couldn't stand her smell any longer so Milly and I had to lift her into the bath and scrub her clean.Think I overdid it.
Also had way too much food at my daughter's confirmation lunch today.I don't think I will have much luck keeping my portions down til I get a fill in July.
Bit tired after going back to work last night, how have you all gone back at work?

Re:May 09 Bandits! Reply to this message
Well...i just had my first blockage! Not a pleasant experience believe me!!!! Had my head over the sink to see if i'd pb but no, my body's instinct was to continually keep on swollowing in a panic which of course made it even worse!! Wow this is certainly going to b a learning experience. I'm on mushies but up till now have had no problems with any food. My band obviously is punishing me (home made moist carrot cake minutes from the oven...it knows i shouldn't b eating that type of food to reach my ideal weight - smart little bugger too!!!). Fantastic news marg re the dress! My clothes dryer is my new best friend (shrinks clothes enough on hot setting so they're not hanging). Can't wait to go shopping for new ones!

Re:May 09 Bandits! Reply to this message
Well done Marg! That's great. You must be so thrilled about the dress - hehehehehe. The new challenges hey??

What sort of food are you eating. Is there anything you can't eat? Do you feel deprived or are you feeling satisfied? This is my one concern - even if I not hungry that I will not feel satified... however... I did have an episode the other day that was just fantastic. I had the correct amount of lunch (I'm on mushies) and the whole afternoon I was not interested in food at ALL! I looked at the chips my kids were eating and i had absolutely no desire to have any! This is a first and boy did I feel in control. Wonderful.

It's great to speak to you all - we all seem to be going thru the same thing.

Ange

Re:May 09 Bandits! Reply to this message
Hi everyone!

Congratulations to everyone on your weightloss! That is an amazing result! You are an inspiration and a motivation for me!!

Just spend the weekend in FNQ for bridesmaid dress fittings for my friend's wedding. They couldn't fit me because the size they ordered for me is way too big now, and if i continue to lose, then they would have to take it in again anyway! So that's exciting!!! Woot!

The scales are continuing to move downwards since my last fill. This fill is definitely working very well. My intake is so very small, and i don't feel hungry at all. Im finding i even have to sip water rather than gulp it, as it needs a second or two to go down. I havent had any pb or stuck episodes so far though, so im really happy with that.

Hope you all enjoy your Sunday!

Much love,
Marg xox

Hey deb,

Good luck for Monday, am sure all will go well. I;m not sure if your Dr recommended a 'pico prep'....your on fluids two days before surgery and then you drink the 'Pico prep' (you can buy this from a chemist - you need to discuss with pharmascist first...no prespcription required, but they keep it behind the counter). It clears your system completely....more so than laxatives..Dr recommended this to me to ensure my system kept working post op and it def helped...

Agree also with Benefibre, i dissolve mine with apple juice...you really can't taste it which is great and it did keep things moving.

Hmmm....things to have, all types of soups provided you make it quite runny - just add milk/water/stock... Make sure theres no lumps etc and the liquid goes up a thin straw...Milo, diet hot chocs, diet cordials, consomme.

Jelly and diet ice cream was also fine, i generally had the Shake meal replacements which kept me quite full...

I found that i wasn't necessarily hungry, just really miss chewing and texture of foods.

Just stay positive, its not easy, we've all had some ups and downs, but we're going to make it and so will you : )

Take care, pop in and let us know how things are going post op.

Deb, my dietician had me on benefibre. It has no taste and you just add it to your optifast shake - 1 tablespoon to each of the three.

You can then take it afterwards as well :)

i am getting irritated - I am not hungry but I am craving the taste and sensation of solid food - today walked past chicken store - and the smell of roast chicken drove me crazy - no hunger but the smell and the feel of it in my mouth

Hi all,
I have come over from June 2009 (almost bandits) for a visit and some advise.

I already suffer from constipation and are concerned about what I can take post op. I currently take ford pills if I need to but not sure if I can still take these after op.

I would also like to get an idea on what you all drank whilst on liquid stage, I am going out tom0morrow for final shop and would like to know what to stock up on.

I am so scared and nervous at the same time, due to have on on MONDAY!!!!.

Congrats on all your marvelous weight loss, you will be a hard act to follow.

Hi all. I was banded on the 12th May by Dr Ian Martin at the p.a here in brisbane. At the moment my port is so sore but I think that's because my jeans where kinda tight, but even if I'm not wearing jeans, just baggy pants I get some pain so I'm gonna ring the nurse on monday and see what's up with that. Other than that doing pretty good - On mushies and had a small potato & gravy from kfc today for lunch and it was awesome lol.

and for some reason, I have totally lost the taste for coffee (a usual 2-3 strong ones a day!)
and enjoying peppermint, camomile and all sorts of lovely teas. i tink that is a great thing,

for all those antioxidants I guess!
