Re:May 09 Bandits! Reply to this message
first two days - I had pressing pain just about the breasts - this was under control with pain killers - tummy area tender (still is) - also pain in shoulder and neck - this is caused by the gas they pump into you during the operation and will pass in another couple of days

thankfully I did throw up after drinking - and didnt have any giddiness - (but I understand other have had this)

welcome to being a bandit

when you jump on the scales you will see that the initial pain is worth it

What a wonderful story I hope that all us May 09 Bandits are as successful. Cara congratulations I was operated on the day before you and today I can see a huge reduction in the amount of swelling, so hang in there. Good luck. Kim

Re:May 09 Bandits! Reply to this message
Hi May Bandits, well done to those newly banded. Cara, the port sticking out is normal, that wound is had the most disruption and will be swollen for a while. My port is still tender but now not quite so swollen (18 days post-op).I went back to work on the weekend and am quite tired. Had a busy shift yesterday and had to go to bed after dinner. I have been getting shoulder tip pain on and off for the past few days, quite annoying. It comes and goes.
The scales are remaining static at the moment but at least not going up. People at work noticed I had lost a bit. I just said I had been unwell.
I am eating a mixture of mushies and some normal food but had trouble with chicken and vegie rice last night. I need my food to be moist still.
Keep up the posts May bandits, its great to read everyone else's experiences and to feel not so alone with this band.

HI Cara
Kasey here.. I was banded on 25th May.. so definitely know your concerns.. everything is normal..well so i have been told.. still dealing with many of your symptoms myself. Anyhow the worst for me was the constipation..but thankfully that has now cleared..as i beleive that most of my pain was due to this..its only 7 days post op now and i am starting to feel normal again.. if you know what i mean.. i do have some dissy spells and nausea.. but im hoping that will all pass in the next couple of days.
Good luck with everything and chat soon.

Re:May 09 Bandits! Reply to this message
Hey guys, Cara here

Well, I was banded on the 29th ( A may bandit) and am currently day 3 post op. I have suffered with the wind (but no shoulder tip pain thankfully) but also my stomach is SO bloated.. it feels really horrible. Like its majorley stretching out or something.. very uncomfortable. I'm assuming this is normal due to the gas, but how long should it last before I can wear something other than stretchy pants?

I am getting all sorts of twinges in my tum as well. Are these normal? I am trying to drink plenty of fluids: for liquids today I had a V8 250 ml drink (got it all down in about an hour.) about 300 mls of water, a small espresso size cup of coffee with skim milk no sugar and for dinner a chocolate sustagen (high in protein) Does all this sound ok?

I am stressing about this port of mine. I can definitely feel it, and its poking out a little from my bloated tummy. Did anyone else get that? Some advice would be appreciated.
Cara

PS congrats May bandits.. we made it. Congrats to everyone on your weight losses so far :) I am 8.7 kilos down as of today: I went UP after the op and finally am coming back down again. I have lost 400grams since the day of my op. Hopefully, this continues :)

the shoulder and neck pain disappeared after 3-4 days. I managed it with pain killers that the hospital gave me -

Hi Holderkim,

I didn't have the shoulder tip pain...but from reading the posts on the forum its pretty common.

From what others say...(including i think Cat & Margs advice) heat packs help, walking/moving around, De Gas pills, peppermint tea (i think). Hope some of this helps you. But i'm sure you will get more detailed info from some of the other Maybandsters : )

PS - COngrats and welcome to being a Maybandit : )

Hi All, (Please excuse me I'm a newbie to forum posts)I was banded on May 28 and I went back to work today, around 2pm today I started having terrible pain in my left shoulder which is far worse than what it had been up until now. I know the surgeon said for me to expect some discomfort however this is excruciating pain, that is killing me ! Any ideas on how I can manage this ??

i AM taking Centrum multivitamins

the doctor at the Nutrition Clinic at the hospital recommended this

I am also keeping up fluid by eating diet jelly - when I was in hospital with aneurysm 5 years ago - the dietitian told me this

Maybe its your milk that is keeping you from being hungry.

Today on mushies I had.

B 1/2 cup porridge
L 1/2 cup of seafood mornay
s 1/2 cup of no fat sticky date yoghurt
D 1/2 cup of curried chicken and rice.

Re:May 09 Bandits! Reply to this message
Hey guys,

I love reading how we're all doing. Marg/Ange when you get the stuck feeling in your throat, what do you do?? Does it eventually go away, does anything help move the food along??

I don't have any fill in my band, but i don't seem to be having much - on the mushie stage and really struggling to eat/drink..for example what i had today was:

- milo for brekky
- coffee
- 110ml potato & leek soup
- coffee
- mashed potatoe 1/4 cup
- probably will fit in a hot choc or milo an hour and half before bed..

I forgot about water again!!!!!!!!!! I just don't feel like eaing or drinking, feeling really tired, forgot the vitamins...know this is self inflicted, but i genuinely feel like an air head when it comes to remembering to eat and drink...and i'm in such a rush in the morning that i don't take the vitamins..

Please anyone with suggestions on how you keep the water intake up and what vitamins is everyone taking....is there liquid vitamins avilable?? I can't swallow pills and don't like the smell or taste of most...whats everyone using for nutrients?

Chicky

Marg - I understand how easy it is to forget the good habits at work. The other day I had a late lunch at my desk and jumped into it a little too quickly because I was hungry. The very first bit of pasta I picked up I gave two chews and swallowed. Whoops...shouldn't have done that! I don't have any fill in my band (I don't think) but it still wasn't pleasant going down. Three weeks post op and still learning :)

Re:May 09 Bandits! Reply to this message
I'm not sure if it's a problem. It only really happens when i eat KFC chips (which i shouldn't touch anyway!!!), and they get all choked up in me, or like today at lunchtime i was eating a chicken and salad wrap, and i was doing something at the same time and was scoffing and not chewing and then i had the backlog of food and the intense indigestion feeling!! So, i guess it means we're not playing by the rules properly and we either need to chew more, or eat slower. I have, on occasion, gotten the feeling just from eating too fast even though im chewing well. It must just hit the band and need time before the next mouthful comes down.

I started exercising last week, and i think it did help to move the weight - also made me sleep like a baby, and i felt like i had more energy! It is hard to build a routine though! Oh, you wait... sitting on 100kg for a while will mean just one day you will hope on the scales and bam, you will be under by a good margin! Your weightloss has been fantastic so far! I'm so jealous of the big numbers everyone else is pulling!! hehe. It's looking like im going to be the "slow and steady" May bandit! lol oh well - as long as it comes off!

30th june will come around quickly! Are you feeling hungry now???? I'm very adventurous - i just want to hit restriction and get this ball rolling well and truly (thus the 3 fills in the last 2 weeks!).

Thanks Marg.
Do you see this "uncomfortable" feeeling as a problem. I don't think I am doing anything wrong. But who knows. I also thought I would be feeling ontop of the world by now. Not helped by colds in the family. I really need to start the exercise. Trying to get under 100kg. At 100 for nearly a week now. Arrhhh. Happy with 15kg weight loss so far so not complaining. Don't have a fill till 30th June... arhh.! My surgeon is very conservative with fills.. yay!

Ange, the food diaries are another thread - a typical day - a food diary on the front page.

I do get the uncomfortable feeling. I described it to my friend today as a choked up potato feeling. Remember when you would scoff something like potato and it clogged up in your oesophagus or whatever? I get that terrible feeling!

Normal is definitely achievable Ange! Dont see this journey as one of deprivation!

Marg.

Hi Marg,
You sound like you are going great guns. You are my inspiration. In fact, you are all my inspiration!

I don't mind giving up white bread but ask me to give up tooo much and I will get cranky. That was not ever what I wanted. I wanted eventually to get back to normal ... just smaller quanties. If this makes sense.

I am happy on mushies but still get a little bit of uncomfortable feeling.. no pb or anything but not 100% normal. Guess I need to give it time. I am eating small portions, chewing well (well, as much as one can chew mush!) and eating slowly. Oh well. I still get a kind of lump in my throat feeling. Is anyone getting that? I wonder whether it's in my head??

Where do I see the food diaries??

How's everyone else travelling?

Ange
