Feeling rather hungry today. I've actually had to count calories so i can eat more than usual, but so it is very low energy food. I'm not sure whether my hunger stems from exam stress, and being at home studying and looking for distrction, or whether it is physical. But my stomach has seemed to grumble more than usual. Perhaps it's time for a fill? I'm working on a chicken curry with light veges at the moment. (I bought "this=that" - it's amazing for a picture guide to good and bad food choices!) Will see how i feel one ive polished this off!
Hope everyone is having a rockin' Sunday!

Lol good on ya! Glad it was a good experience!!
Yeh i eat eggs pretty regularly coz they are soft, but also because they fill me up for ages. And yes, i have ham and salad wraps all the time. Actually Ange, i haven't come across one food i cannot eat - including steak. I just have to chew that much harder for some things!
Enjoy the WII sweet. I keep wanting one... but meh never get there! hehe.

Hi Marg,
Well, i did it. YAY. Had a little omelette with cheese and a tiny bit of bacon and one slice of soy and linseed toast. Seems to have gone down a treat. Took me ages to eat it - chew chew chew. But geesh it was GOOD! After 6 weeks to have some toasted bread. Can you manage eggs? Have you tried ham? Sorry, so many questions - hope I'm not being a pain. Thanks
Off to buy WII active game - heard it's great and can really help get the fitness routine started.
Enjoy your day. |

Hy Ange,
Eggplant had skin on. It's a dish my dad always used to make - spaghetti sauce made on tomatoes with onion, garlic and basil and eggplant either fried or grilled added to it. It's really yummy. Just another way to have pasta rather than just bol sauce all the time.
Yes, yesterday was the first time ive eaten bread that wasn't toasted. I'm ok with toasted bread, and have that most morning (although i have to go very slowly because it's so dry - always try to have avocade or cottage chz or something soft and gooey on it to make it easier). Yesterday i had soy and linseed bread - 2 slices of it. It wasn't any harder than toast actually. I definitely didn't like the crust as it seemed to bulk up and hurt a little, but the bread was fine otherwise. I think it was easier than toast because it was moist after all the chewing. I find i can chew toast for ages but it still tastes dry. I had two half sandwiches.
Toast should be fine - dont worry!! Just have something mushy on it - i wouldn't recommend vegemite or peanut butter.
Much love,
Marg xox |

Hey Marg,
Was reading with interest your food diary. Yummo i love eggplant. Can I ask, did you take off the purple skin? Also, you say it's the first time since banded that you have eaten bread. What type of bread. How much are you eating of it? Half a sandwich or full sandwich. I so hope I am like you and can managed most things. My dietician wants me to try toast today (not white bread) this week. I am a little scared but will try it. Paranoid aren't I?
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Ange, sounds like you're the one!!! I think you are being very wise just going slowly and listening to your body. Much more sensible than my suck-it-and-see attitude that sometimes gets me in trouble. As long as your weight loss isn't too drastic and your well hydrated you should be ok.

| I forgot to say I too don't have a fill for nearly another 3-4 weeks. I am not looking forward. I am so worried about what I won't be able to eat after the adjustment. My dietician thinks I am not eating enough. I am so paranoid about being sick I am not pushing it at all. My husband thinks I should eat more. I am waiting for that full feeling but not sure what I am feeling. This is probably why I am still slowly losing thus my fairly good numbers. She thinks I may still have swelling (4 weeks on monday) and that I will probably get really hungry soon. Who knows. |

A meeting in Melbourne would be great Marg. Maybe we should plan it for our first bandiversary! What do you think? When is your wedding?I'm happy at the moment to be staying where I am and not gaining because I'm eating a bit more. One whole month til I get a fill. Feeling pretty good though. Luckily I'm not bored with healthy mushies and the odd bit of real food.
Off to work now. Late shift on a Sat, yawn.
You're going great guns Marg, keep it up

Cath,
I'm pretty good. Uni exams this next 2 weeks so im actually attempting to study as opposed to my last 5 yrs of "cramming" habits! Ugh - hate exams!
It's lovely that you two go shopping together! I have fond memories of doing those sorts of trips with my mum, and of course, the disagreements we had on points of style and what's "too old" for me! lol. Wish i could get her interested in planning my wedding! Blah - flat out refuses to help coz she reckons she's not really into that. Makes it blardy hard for me who is clueless about the whole wedding bizzo!
Congrats on the weightloss this week! I'm glad i have a slow and steady partner to measure my losses against. Sometimes i look at some of the numbers other people are pulling and really wonder why im not losing as fast. I had another dietician appt yesterday and im under strict instructions to only eat when hungry, no snacking etc - even if that means i end up with only 1 or two meals a day. Oh and i got into trouble for my inability to remember to take my multi and drink my water allowance! lol. So today, im drinking like a fish! (And feeling like a drowning one - too much water!!!!)
Hey, i reckon we should think about a meet up next yr sometime. Ive never been to Melb... (hint hint!!!)
Much love,

Hey Marg how are you?? This morning I had to be out of the house early fasted for a blood test.(they took about five tubes, its a wonder I'm still standing).Anyway my 14 year old daughter came with me and we went shopping for shoes as she has a formal party to go to next weekend. I really don't know where I got her from, she's right into clothes, makeup and all things girly. At her age I wore desert boots, flannel shirts and tore around the neighborhood on my bike. Luckily we agree to disagree and manage to meet somewhere in the middle. The next decade is going to be "interesting" with my two teenage daughters!

Hi Karen & Kath
I've been seeing a Psychiatrist for a number of years for a number of issues including being overweight. She is with me 100% with the banding and I'm looking forward to seeing her soon. I think it's really important for us all to have some sort of mental health professional to help us thru this banding journey.
My Nephew was really cute the other day - he is 17. He said that he didn't want me to have the operation because he was scared I would change and he loves me the way I am. I said to him that it would only be my body that changed not my inside person. That person has always been nice and slim it's just the outside doesn't match.

Karen,
I would have to agree with you about sorting out anything in the way of stressful issues. For most of us, obesity will be tied to emotional eating and it is really important to address these issues at the time of losing weight with the band. Some surgeons require an appointment with a psychologist before surgery but in my case this was only a very basic screening and I wasn't about to disclose much in the 40 mins she gave me. I have found a really good counsellor that I see monthly and she has been a wonderful support through the pre and post-op phase.
If anyone thinks they would like to talk to a clinical psychologist see your GP for a referral so you can get the medicare rebate on session fees.
Take care,
Cath |

Hi May Banditos- i figure we are all pretty cool, so thus my nickname for us.
I just thought I would add something about stress.
one of my girlfriends who has been incredibly supportive of my op has recently undergone hypnosis for her weight problem. next will be banding if she feels she needs it. she is also going through an incredible stressful situation with her business.
this happened to me over 5 years ago. when I went into my business, I was a fit trim 70 kilos. With the stress leading to time contraints, terrible eating choices, little or no exercise and depression.
I wasnt always thin. I have yo yoed since I was a young child, with low self esteem and anxiety a constant background noise as I grew up.
The last time I lost weight, I did it with weight watchers, weight training and heavy cardio- I would run 10 ks most days and pump weights 3 times a week.
admitidly I am not married, have not children and live in a different state from my family. So I understand this is easier said than done for some.
What I have realised is that the stress creates a adrenal situation where the body is in survial mode and holds onto every asset (if you can call it that) and will not let you lose weight. when stressful situations are dealt with (with the help of a support team and/or medication) weight loss becomes so much easier. It has taken me 4 years this time to try to loose the weight- which has increased every time when I have regained. I now feel positive, laugh every day instead of crying, and look forward to fitting into all the little clothes I have kept.
My Point is, to deal with any other cr ap which is holding you back, and only fix 1 problem at a time. As my pyschologist explains, If you imagine all your issues as beeing held in shopping trolleys, you can only push 1 trolley at a time.
I hope someone might find this helpful, much love, Karen |
