Sounds like today was the day to get filled! Have just come back from my first fill too.
Extremely nervous beforehand however everything went fine (tip for those 'unfilled' - do NOT look at the size of the needle - it's not the width but the length, thankfully it all doesn't go in though).
Doc made it a fun experience though (if you could call it that). He gave me the option "am I feeling adventurous? if so he'll give me 5ml, or am I responsible?, if so 4ml". So I thought, 'responsible' (I quite like being able to eat whatever I like, just not the quantity as before). Next I was on the table, legs in the air doing a crunch and then it was all over (just a small sting, kind of like a bee sting). Jumped off the table and then doc promptly told me I've got 5ml in (with a very smug look on his face!!) Little buggar!!
Also had a list of questions for him (which he promptly took off me and started writing down the answers himself!). His response to my question "what's the best way to get rid of a blockage?"....answer "don't get one!!"
The main thing I noticed was in the waiting room looking at everyone's expressions and body language - it was obvious from looking around which were the clients who had already been banded and were waiting on fills (they appeared confident and self assured) whilst the others filling in the pre-admin info sheets looked absolutely scared sh*less and nervous!
Made me realise how far we've all come girls!!!! Congratulations to everyone on this exciting journey and the amazing results we've all been seeing so far!

Hi Marg,
is 3 ml alot? i had no idea, o well, i ll lert you know whn it kicks in.
yeah, the insurance is a personal insurance, like life insurance, but yes I run a small business, so insurance for me is a must- in the middle of a real estate purchase as well- oh well, better behave myself down at the snow. I'll show em. im going to try to loose the weight while im there. if i lost 20kg in the last 2 1/2 months, i sure can do it again, and this time its like altitude training, and i snow board about 4 times a week and well as trudging through the snow to get to the pub.
i did how ever have my first glass of red wine last night.
i checked with the dietician the other day and she said its fine. funny how there is so much inconsistency in the alcohol issue. i dont care, it tasted lovley and i was good and just had the one. not much of a drinker anyway.
i'm on a mission girls!
help keep me honest! |

Congrats on the fill Karen! 3ml is a fair hit in one go! You go girl!
That sucks about the insurance! Wtf?! I never even thought about things like that before making my decision to get banded. I even read that travel insurance is a bit hard to get too! How would they even know unless we tell them? It's a bummer that business is getting slow! Do you work for yourself?
I made some strawberry m u f f ins this arvo for my better half, and unfortunately have been picking at them ever since! My computer is right beside the fridge - WORST SPOT EVER!!! lol!!!

Hi May Bandits.
Haven't logged in for a while. I'm having a fill on Friday, can't wait. I seem to be able to eat pretty much anything I want, which is really bad for me. Last night I thought maybe I didn't really go thru all that Opti and operation I don't feel any different.
Does anyone know how much fill they usually put in the first time?

Hi May Banditos,
I hope everyone is having a great day.
sitting here with my bowl of greens and haloumi and seething.
Two no so good days, but not about the weight, business is definately slowing down, so I am worring about income now, and I have also just been to the bank to try to org an ise personal insurance.
if you have gastric banding, your premium is based on a bmi higher than someone overweight who has not had gastric banding.
this means that even when I get to 90kg, I will be assessed as some one with the weight of 110kg. they will not give me private insurance till i reach 90 kgs, even though i thought i was doing theright thing by being honest and also trying to loose weight- what an absolute f uccker, so mad right now, but so determined. so my goal is to loose 20 kgs as soon as possible. first fill this afternoon! i havent dropped any weight in the last week. crossing my fingers i drop it all by october. grrrrr |

Hi All,
Well I just had my first fill and it didn't hurt at all. I was pleased as I was very nervous. I have lost 7kg so far in the journey and am pretty pleased - although it has stopped recently so I am hoping it will start up again since I have had the fill.
Good luck with everyone getting their fills, I can't believe it has already been one month since our surgeries. Great work everyone.
Thanks,
Katie |

Hi Girls,
Trace - congrats on the fill! That's very exciting news. Sometimes it can take a day or two to feel restriction. It definitely takes me 2 days before i notice any change. So, fingers crossed you will wake up this morning or tomorrow with lovely restriction! And congrats on the weightloss!
I had a whopper stuck last night. It was absolutely terrible- i even went so far as to try the fizzy drink. I have officially banned myself from kfc - it's so not worth it! Good news is though, my weightloss is travelling well this week! I always get very excited when i drop down to the next kilo! Lol - every kilo is a milestone, because it has been so long since ive seen my weight consistently go down... actually, it's never been this consistent. So, yes - im thrilled!
Good luck to everyone with fills this week!
Much love,

Hey girls,
Well, had the fill and it was fine. Certainly didnt hurt much - barely a sting ! The bad news is that he only put 1.5 mls in and I dont really feel much difference. I will see how I go. Good news was that on his scales I had lost 2.5kg - lots more than I thought.
Anyway I will see how I go. I have another 7 week wait before my next appointment - earliest I could get- It is such a long way away. COnsidering making my next appointment for after that now.
Haven't seen much of the flu around here yet - but it is no doubt coming!! It is sooooooo cold here at the moment - More like the Ballarat I remember as a kid.
Hope everyone is well.

Marg, if you do a 5kg No.2DONT FLUSH !! I reckon you should get the guiness book of world records to check it.,
I don't think there is going to be much chance of avoiding this swine flu. Seems to infect everyone in the vicinity of an infected person. The kids schools have huge numbers away. Many more than reported because they have stopped swabbing. Most people have just normal flu but there will unfortunately be deaths in the future.

Hi Girls,
Sounds like you're all doing well - bring out the garlic and crosses to ward off the swine flu Cath! I hear it is rampant down there!
Having lotsa trouble with this restriction. Got a stuck with JELLY today! I really suck. From now on im taking a break (when at work, because it always blardy happens at work) and telling everyone don't bother me for 30mins because i need to eat. I get evil heartburn after - and quite frankly it's a little silly that i scoffed jelly and got it stuck!! lol. I guess maybe im a slow learner...
Bit constipated too i think. LOL. Sorry if tmi! Can't remember the last time i did a number 2. Im blaming the stagnant weight so far this week on a blockage! Lol Karen - got my 5kg excuse for weigh in! Bahahah
Hope you all had a good day!

Hi Everyone,
Just popping in to weigh in. Not much of a loss (barely one at all really) I am so excited though because I finally go in for my fill tomorrow!! Yey. I can pretty much eat anything at the moment (And do!!) It will be so great to get some restriction!! It feels like such an age since surgery now. Well I'm holding my breath for a good result next week.
Keep up the good work everyone.

You show offs, all those prawns and barramundi. Here in the sticks we have to be satisfied with battered flake and chips from the greasy spoon 20kms away! Which my family and I just ate. Boy you dont get much for $30 these days, barely fed the seven of us.
Marg, tell me more about that this=that book.
No I haven't started counting calories yet but so far my weight is staying stable so I will see how I go. I am a bit stressed with study so can't be bothered wasting time counting cals. I have been a bit snacky but still avoiding alcohol and other high calorie treats.
Someone at work noticed my weight loss today. I said ta but didn't elaborate.
I barely feel banded these days apart from the shoulder tip pain that continues to plague me :(

Marg that book is great isn't it? I only had a few but was still nice. I am a big seafood person and last night had barramundi with mashed potato and pumpkin. It did enough for 2 meals :)
I am having my fill done by xray this time instead of surgeon. He said they will give me a drink after to see how I go. |

Wow Kerrie, sounds like you have great restriction already!! That's exciting! 5ml will make it interesting, but im sure your surgeon will ask you how you're travelling along so far and whether you are restricted already, so maybe he wont put such a large amount in. Bands are funny little things, you may even find that by the time you go for your fill, you will need it. Who knows.
Smart idea with dividing the meal in half! I'm so time poor - i need to learn to take the time for my meals.
Hope you're having a great Sunday! The prawns sound yummy! I bought this=that - lifesize food guide a week or 2 ago, and it just blows me away the number of prawns you can eat (calories) compared to some other foods. (Eg 20 prawns compared to 1 sausage!!) I keep meaning to buy some!

What I have been doing is I sort of divide my bowl into halves. At the 15 min eating mark I know I should only be half way thru what I am eating. If I am over that then I make sure I slow down. :)
Had a lovely lunch today of chopped up fresh prawns and riccotta cheese on cruskits. Yum.
I have 2 weeks tomorrow until I have my first fill, which will be 5 ml. I am finding it hard to eat more than 1/2 cup now, so wondering how I will go then :S |

Hi Cath!
Yes, i too just shovel it in and then go "sheet what now!!" - it's all a learning curve and im actually a little wary of food with this restriction. I have to relearn how to eat, because it really hurts if i shovel. Baby steps...
Exams - meh! Had a big one Fri. It was ok. Got 2 more to go and no time to study with work etc. Luckily they are open book, as most law ones are - so hopefully i can fudge my way through.
How's everything with you? Did you end up deciding to do the calorie counting thing, or just going to hang out for the fill?
