Hi all, hoping someone can help. Had my banding thursday, dr also found and fixed hernia. all good.
My question how to space the liquid food over the day.
Has anyone got a time line with the food and when its taken. I would really appreciate any help.

| Ring the surgeon if you are worried. I did have some discomfort also, but I think in my case it was apple juice. So I have stopped any juice now, except for prune juice (which I take every day (a small bottle last me 3 days) so I don't become constipated). If you have problems after just water, then I would contact the surgeon, or hospital. |

| Yes I am the same with Supradyn, but I water it down a fair bit so it is not so strong and drink it over quite a while. But if it does not get better, make sure you mention it to the doctor. By the way, I have also had my gall bladder out many years ago, and sometimes I get the same sort of pain that I had then, but it is my stomach as it eases if I drink milk or warm water with a bit of milk. Not very pleasant. But any pain that worry you, ring the doctor. We might all have similar sort of things happening, but could be totally different reasons, so just follow your own instinct. |

Karen, I had apple juice at the hospital, and then later on at home, and it really did not agree with me, got the worst pains. I don't drink fruit juice anymore, except for prune juice (just to keep the nr 2's going :). I have had stomach problems in the past with an ulcer and also inflamation, but according to the last check prior to surgery, my stomach was ok. But I think the apple juice just was too acid and made my stomach revolt...
If it is really bad, then contact the hospital/surgeon, and like Pyretta says, keep up the painkillers, I took them every night for a week, and sometimes during the day (as I felt the need). |

Karen,
Did you have this pain when you left the hospital? are you taking your painkillers regularly? are you only sipping clear fluids?

qui,
Make sure you are getting protein. an egg flip should keep you satisfied for a while or baked beans blended into tomato juice or stock.

| I think I am hungry... having a chicken cup-o-soup, nice with something salty, but it is really a bit too salty. 4 days until I see the dietitian, hope mushies will start after that. A soft boiled egg mushed up would go down well right now :) |

I am on day 8 today, and still struggling to get down the required drinks. I think I have been overdoing it too, as today when I had my second Optifast I probably had it too quickly, and also not long before that I had a glass of water with the supradyn. I got quite unfomfortable and ended having to lie down for a while. I did read again that we should only drink a little, see how it goes and if feeling full, to not drink anymore until that has settled. I guess old habits die hard, and I am glad this has happened on the drinks only, I can imagine that if it was mushies, the feeling would be so much worse.
So lesson to self: Do not serve up more than about 1/2 cup of drink at the time... and wait and feel before having some more.
I am still so full that I know I will not have my third Optifast today. This is a journey of learning, that's for sure. |

hi all,
I was banded on 3rd August and am still only getting thru 2 optifast shakes, a glass of water with supradyn, a cup-a-soup for dinner, a glass of V8, water, and half a coffee. Last night i was craving something naughty and yummy so i went and got some gravy from KFC and had that instead of my soup for dinner. It was awesome, and went down without a problem. I did take it VERY slow, but was filling and did the job a treat. It's amazing to think I have gone from dusting down a dinner for two without flinching pre-band, to struggling to have a tub of regular gravy (not even potato and gravy, JUST gravy) post-band. I'm off to the dietician on the 14th Aug and must say i can't wait to get on to the soft food stage. I'm a little over the optifast now.
Best of luck to everyone.....I think we are all amazing for taking this brave step :D |

| Me too Qui - tonight I decided to boil an egg and puree it to almost liquid with a bit of skim milk and marg ( teeny tiny bit), I sipped it off a tiny teaspoon and couldn't eat it all - I definately started to feel full half way through. Then had to leave the rest - a difficult thing to do - my psych said that is one of the hardest things for us to do - leave food and I did, I could't have fitted another sip in......wow. |

rkf,
You may still have some swelling from the overfill and "vomiting". It should settle in a few days, just start back slowly onto foods.

I just had my second fill 2 days ago. They actually overfilled me and I ended up vomiting and hiccuping for 3 hours. I then called and went back and they took some out. Ouch!!! Anyway, I am 2 days out from that, and am still very sensitive. Is this normal? I can only drink liquids (optifast shake, tomato soup, coffee) and eat mashed potatoes. I bet this is normal, and everything is fine, just wondering your thoughts on this. I didn't have this with the first fill, but, I assume that is because it was the first one and it wasn't really restrictive yet.
Thanks. |

| I definitely must have some restriction. Went to IKEA yesterday and hubby wanted some meatballs, so I looked to see what they had that I could have, and soup of the day was "good old pumpkin soup". It was very thick, and from normal habit I filled the bowl (!!!). I ended up having to scoop some out so I could water it down. After about 1/3 of the bowl I was absolutely full. My husband could not believe it. I definitely am not ready for mushies just yet. |

| I think I definitely feel some restriction also, but maybe it is my mind playing up on me. I would not want to eat anything too thick just yet, I think I would get very full if I did. |

I had Pumpkin soup tonight too (thinned with skim milk) and it was so nice. Its the first time I have had anything other than shakes, clear broths and drinks. It was gorgeous - but also I think I may have felt some restriction - I am not sure but I think I did, because I am feeling a different feeling to anything I have had so far - fullish. I had about half a cup, probably not that much, very slowly, a little bit at a time off a teaspoon. Anyway whatever I felt it is different.

I am definitely not having any more Apple Juice. Had some watered down apple juice yesterday and got the worst stomach ache. It lasted for ages, and I ended up having some bicarb mixed in water and stirred it until all the fizz had died down, and that finally fixed it. I think my stomach was too acid. I did have it checked before surgery but was told it was ok, but I sure did not think so last night. Had to take a pain killer before going to bed as I was really uncomfortable, but I had a good sleep overnight, probably the best night since the operation.
Other than that I am feeling ok, had pumpkin soup today (watery), and it made a nice change to all the sweet things I have had. |
