Karen,
It is quite common and it is a sign that you are healing well internally. Try and stick with the fluids, make protein shakes and have a lot of protein fluids to keep you fuller longer. You probably don't need as much in the way for fruit juices now.

Hi all,
9 days since being banded and the liquids are now leaving me really quite hungry! Is anyone else finding this? Today I had sustagen in the morning, my supradyn, soup and an up and go for lunch, apple and pear juice in the afternoon, soup for dinner and several glasses of water in between.
Cheers

Shelly,
It can take some people a while to get over the surgery. Your body has been through a lot so try not to rush it. If you are concerned about the amount of pain, or if there is any redness go back to your surgeon ASAP. As for the deep breath, it may just mean you need to do some deep breathing exercises. They used to be standard after any anesthetic but no one thinks about it anymore.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi everyone,
This is my first post. I was banded on August 10th so still on the fluid diet. Difficult to take a deep breath without feeling pain around port site and still having panadol about 3 times a day, is this normal?

I have lost a kilo overnight!!!!!!!
now i am back to 14 kilo loss too.
I have put my surgerory on my site (www.jenniferslapbandjour ney.com) for those who want to know the details.
I have lost all the surgery weight too and not one bit of shoulder pain since the op, so I must have been lucky. My intial pain was lower left abdo, no where close to any of my wounds but that went after 3 days :)
I was too tired to jump on the pc, but today I feel full of energy again. Must be all that resting:)))
I plan to do some emergency teaching next couple of weeks to give me some extra money for kids birthdays and fathers day, so if its too tiring ill just do 2 or 3 days instead. |

Karren that is awesome. I am now off my meds. I have lost 2 kilos since the surgery which is pretty good so that takes me to a 13 kilo loss since the journey began too:)
Still a bit tender in the middle and the swelling is quite obvious to the left side does anyone else look like that with their wound sites? |

| Leonie, thanks for sharing that, it is very reasuring for the rest of us that might be feeling hungry or worried about gaining during the liquid/mushie stage. You sound like you are in a good routine with your eating and doing very well. Good on you! |

| Hi Nicole, i have just had the lapband done in Hobart Tas and am now into my fifth week, i found the first two weeks mentally hard and hated the straw diet, however once i noticed the drop in my weight on the scales i began to get excited and really began to feel better. my doctor advised not to worry about dieting etc in the first six weeks as its all about getting better and for the stiches around the band to heal, so i went for full cream milk and icecream smoothies etc etc! felt guilty and then to my absolute surprise have lost 7 kilo in the five weeks, now i am onto low fat, but having a bit of everything but not eating too much of anything, i feel really good, the doctor is really happy with my progress and has now put in my first lot of fluid, i still eat all sorts of food but just a lot less, so hang in there you sound like you are trying the weight loss already, just nurse yourself for now, i am surprised that i am still enjoying soups. i used to make very runny gravy with very runny mashed pumpkin and potatoe so that i felt like i was at least having a meal, banana smoothies and hot chocolate. Now i eat a weetbix for breakfast bit of fruit low fat milk, soup for lunch with bread dipped in, and a good casserole type meal with mashed vegs for tea, yoghurt or custard for a snack low fat hot choc and cups of coffee and tea, i am having a glass of wine occassionally and feel like i am still losing a good kilo per week! so it sure works. take care regards Leonie Hobart |

hi nicole,
i can easily have a full opti shake too so i think its ok. compared to what we were eating pre opti stage its really not too much. i am just 5 days out and i think all liquid goes straight to our big tummys at the moment. when we get fills we probably wont fit it all at once.

| I can have the full optifast sachet.... I feel pretty full afterwards, but not painfully so. I have just been having three optifast sachets a day with drinks of juice and iced tea in between. I haven't really been hungry. I am 3 days post op. now I am worried I am eating/drinking too much after reading the instructions some other people have been given. I might halve the optifast sachets from now on, don't want to do any damage |

| Personally I did not have a schedule. I used Optifast as the staple diet during liquid period with some soup, drinking yoghurt, and some juice in addition. I found early on that I could not drink a full Optifast in one go, so just had each one in 3 lots, otherwise I would become too full. I don;t think it really matters when you have your drinks, but try to drink a little, but frequently, throughout the day. |

Hi Simone
I was given 2 weeks off, and I am happy about that, feel it was needed. I did start feeling much better on about day 8 or so, so I hope you will feel good too by then. I am back to work tomorrow. |

I am 6 days post op and also feeling bloated at this time .....I think it has a lot to do with the bulk of my protein foods ( liquids ) being in the later half of the day. I'll reverse that tomorrow.
Is anyone feeling well enough/strong enough to go back to work yet. I know that as my body adjusts and gets used to smaller amounts to live off and once mushies come in ....I feel stronger. But I just don't feel strong enough yet - especially when I teach. I am due to go back Tuesday which is 8 days post op.

thanks Karen
i'll try the peppermint tea - the farting has slowed down now and it definitely helped to move it out - the gas to the shoulders is still a bit of a pain. My son had football today and standing up for 2 hours to watch him with some slow working seems to have worked it a bit loose - so gentle exercise must help too... |

Hi Jude
I have found that although I am not hungry really, i try to have something to eat every couple of hours, about 1/2 cup - i have been having something about 8am, then about 10.30am then 12.30pm then approx 3pm and finally about 6.30 - i have been trying not to have anything a couple of hours before bed so I sleep well |
