I had 4 weeks liquids and yes it gets tedious. I ate a few mousses during liquids, but just melted them in my mouth first. Milo and Aero mousse are yummy. My lunch and dinner were hearty broths and eventually I pureed baked beans with tomato soup and braised steak and veg. I tested with my straw and they went straight through. I also discovered baby food for 6 months and under. Pureed tuna and rice was soooo tasty after being on liquids for so long.

Once it is over you won't look back. Hang in there!

Hi all,
well getting tired of the liquid stage (although the soup i made is actually prolly more mushy than liquid).
I am finding im hungry often and having more than i think i should. I will be 2 weeks post banding tomorrow but because of the problems i had the doctor said to count last monday as day 1 , therefore i get to do the liquids for another week sigh. I am trying to vary my diet and am having soup(potato leek and bacon atm) , jarrah low cal hot chocs, flavoured milk as a treat for morning tea this morn, optifast for brekky, and have had drinking yoghurt for brekky some mornings.

Hey lite,

How did you get on with the nausea?

Glad to hear you're feeling better.

I'm hungry too, currently trying not to OD on mashed potato. I made the best sago pudding the other night, will post recipe in recipe thread for those who are on mushies.

Meg.

Hi everyone...Just a note to those who have just been banded. It gets better!

I haven't lost much so far, but I feel so much better than the first four days after surgery. The first few days I was thinking...what did I do!? But...now i'm breathing a sigh of relief because i'm beginning to feel like myself again.

You've got that to look forward to...just thought i'd throw that in :)

HOwever...i'm beginning to feel very hungry and looking forward to feeling full again like I did in the beginning.

This forum is GREAT!

minced veal makes a lovely, thick, meaty broth. Don't forget to strain it before eating it. I survived on broths. The sugary stuff just didn't hold me over during liquids phase.

Purr,

Some people don't feel any restriction after banding. That's where we have to be vigilant and limit the foods we eat as well as trying to recognize the difference between real hunger and just wanting something because it's nice.

I made up the potato, leek and bacon soup and yummo. I am worried by the fact i seemed to have a full cup nps and even went back for a 2nd cup an hr later. Shouldnt i be eating less to feel full?

Kym,

I know that many people do choose the permanent option of sleeve or bypass. But I clearly remember in the first few post op days commenting to my mother: "imagine the discomfort and pain I'd be in if I had my stomach cut apart and stitched!". Not to mention the risks of death and complication. Give your band more time. See your dietician, get another fill. Exhaust your options.

All the best,
Cat

Re:liquid phase- post op (the straw diet ... Reply to this message
kym,

From memory you aren't that long banded. You really need to give it a few months and a few fills to see if it will work for you. You food choices also need to bit of cheering up. have a look at the recipe threads, there are lots of good foods bandits can eat and still shift the weight when we have good restriction.

Yes you would loose faster with a bypass, but there are all the other things to consider with any malabsorption method of loosing weight.

Get back to your doc and try and get fills happening every 2 weeks, which is what my doc does, to try and get the weight loss happening ASAP.

Re:liquid phase- post op (the straw diet ... Reply to this message
My husband originally convinced me that a bypass would be better and the surgeon said "ok, this is what I put in" and that's it. He never told me there were other options or which would be more beneficial.

I am regretting it now as I have still not lost any weight at all in the past 5 weeks. It is unbelievable and I am so down. I guess that I want to lose weight and would do anything for it.

I am eating only seafood mix for my meals or soup and working 12hr shifts as a nurse 4 days a week with some overtime shifts also so I am very active and so I don't understand why I can't lose anything. I am told I would lose more weight quicker with the bypass which is why I regret it.

Kym,

There are quite a number of people who have started with bands and then gone on to bypass on both of the sites listed below. I'm sure you'll find people there who are happy to offer advice. Can I ask though why, if you initially wanted a bypass you got a band?

Re:liquid phase- post op (the straw diet ... Reply to this message
this is just a personal view i researched long and hard both forms and to me i felt banding was less invasive im only in early stages so i dont know how this is going to work but feedback from thi site sounds promising at the end of the day it is only a tool we have to put in the work so i think you just have to be happy with your own decision
