Faye,

You really should wait the full 2 weeks or whatever regime you surgeon has you on.

Hi all, today is day 7 post op. I am pretty much drinking a cup full at a time now, I'm hungry on and off, but I think it's more head hunger. I dont feel as restriced and am sure that the pouchband has relaxed. Have I stretched it? I dont know? How do you know? Just seems that fluids are really just passing through now... should I start to transition to mushies now? Or wait the 2 weeks...
Thanks in advance,
Faye

Thanks for the advice re: Georges. I still might write a letter. congrats to the newly band people. I have found the first 10days are rather yuk but after that things pick up. I also found for the first 5 days or so I could only drink small amounts at a time but nearly 2 weeks later I can just about drink any amount within reason. I have felt sooooo happy the past couple of days I don't think FAT anymore and I am starting to see changes which is great. Re:the shoulder tip pain yep thats a boitch it can last from 1-5 weeks mine is mostly gone know just a little twinge here and there I drink peppermint tea about 2-3 times a day and take de-gas when I start to feel tight. All in all things are great

Sorry one more bad service story...
I had a bad experience at Georges at Kingscliff - I had ordered mussels, ate one and found they were truly horrible - I think they were bad. I sent them back but the chef insisted they were fine and refused to let me choose anything else on the menu without paying for both the mussels and the newly ordered dish. On principle I then refused to re-order, sat while my hubby hurriedly ate his and then had to pay them! I was furious and have never gone back.

Re the meal at Georges (making a mental 'stay away' note)I am a big fan of 'its your money you should get the service you expect'. I am not a big fan of just letting people off on being so rude and insensitive. Ask them if they take any care for people with allergies because this is really the same thing - you cant eat food that's not suited to you and you have every right (especially seeming they got money for it) to complain if their food hurt you and you told them before hand that it would be a problem.

I think in future, be confident with these words "no that's not good enough send it back to chef please - and I wont be paying if this is what I am getting" You would be surprised at how that changes things. I have had a few bad experiences with vegetarian meals (having things like ham in them - is a pig a vegetable?) and I have immediately sent the meal back stating that it wasn't good enough. It is usually all apologies and, when not, we simply get up and find somewhere else. I really really feel for you - its hard enough at this stage without peoples service attitudes. Good luck with the complaint.

Re:liquid phase- post op (the straw diet ... Reply to this message
Hi All
Banded on Friday last week. My dietician is great, very positive and supportive though I am wondering if he has "prescribed" too much fluid? He has asked me to have (per day):
3 optifast
1 glass supradyn
100ml drinking yoghurt
120ml fruit juice
1 cup veg or tomato juice
1 cup thin soup, miso or stock
+ 3L water!

I'm not fully there yet but today I was able to fit in all except 1 optifast and 2L water. I'm scared of stretching my pouch. How can you tell when you're full? I'm still not sure yet. Is it a pain or tightness?

Hi jened97,

I would complain that is just wrong. All they had to do is pop it through the blender or ad a bit of hot water to change the consistancy of the chowder. It's not that hard. Ring and ask for the owners name and send the letter in writing as they will have to respond. Don't let it go follow it up as I'm sure they won't know about it.(You never know you may even get a free feed out of it) As for your bloated look it does go away just give it time. Try to drink a least 2 litres of water a day and you will find the puffiness will move. It will also help you lose weight. I look forward to hearing what happens.

Regards

Em

Went out for lunch yesterday down to George's at Sanctuary Cove all my friends had entrees mains and dessert all I could have was the Seafood Chowder unfortunately I think it was'nt liquified enough (1 week post. They would'nt thin it down for me I don't know whether to write and complain because I am sure they would of had a blender in the kitchen. I suffered all afternoon. So I will definitely be more wary in future. For one day the bloated look went away and I felt great but it is back again. I feel like I am pregnant again. Will the bloating ever go away permanently?? I have pushed the scales way under the bed so I can't get them lol. going off the read the blogs then might just create mine.

Reposting:
Immediately post op you wont be able to have much for a few hours, and you must sip slowly!!! perhaps 50mls at a time for a while. (everyones experience is different but this is pretty much what you can have)
anything you have must be thin enough to fit up a straw, and have NO LUMPS. if you need to water things down try doing it with milk which helps with PROTEIN .
liquid vitamins are important (IRON is essential)
immediately post op -
ice chips or water
next day- (after baruim swallow if that is your surgeons thing)
clear broth
apple juice
peppermint tea (good for the wind)
jelly?
day 2 you should be able to start milk drinks -
sustagen, up n go, tea or coffee, milo, etc
soup but still thin
drinking yoghurt
vegie juice
prune or pear juice if you are having issues moving your bowels.
Low fat frozen yoghurt in little 100gram tubs
ww custard with extra milk to be thin enough(yummm)
ww mousse
smoothies
snack pack
ice cream
Put anything you're not sure of through a sieve.
by day 4 or 5 you possibly could drink 250ml in about half an hour to an hour.

by then end of your 2 or 3 weeks of liquid you can start thickening up your things in preparation for mushy stage.

There are some fantastic "liquid" recipes in this thread, just look back through the pages
hope this is helpful!

Re:liquid phase- post op (the straw diet ... Reply to this message
From the recipe thread:

Potato leek and bacon soup- this was really awesome!
about 6 large spuds,
1 leek
1 brown onion
celery i think..
6 rashers of bacon
garlic
bacon or vegie stock cubes
cream for serving.

chop spuds, leek and celery, cover with water and cook in microwave about 15 mins
while you are doing that fry onion, garlic and bacon together,
when the vegies are finished add the onion, garlic and bacon to it and some bacon stock, cook for another 10 mins in the microwave,
blend in food processor, i added a bit of cream when serving. it was yummo. ;0

Re:liquid phase- post op (the straw diet ... Reply to this message
From the recipe thread:
Creamy Broccolli Soup

1-2 large onions, diced
2 or 3 large heads brocolli, stalks & all! (not leaves) chopped up
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
5 or 6 Ch. stock cubes, I use the Massell brand 'Chicken Style' as it's ok for vegetarians & gluten free
1/2 to 1 heaped tsp minced chilli- 1/2 & you won't know it's in there..it needs it... or full tsp and can sense slightly its in it ~ depends on taste.. I use 2 tsps ~ still only mild
1 tin Carnation light n creamy evap.milk
tiny amount of olive oil or spray

In large soup pot, put oil/spray heat a little & add diced onion till just starting to go see thru.. but half way add garlic & chilli
throw in broccolli then add enough water to cover 1-2 inches over ingredients & simmer till b.stalks are cooked thru.
blend with stab mixer in pot & add evap. milk after add fresh herbs of choice if desired & a pinch or 2 of curry powder for added taste if u want?..
..if not thick enough can add a couple of chopped potatos or cauliflower when adding brocolli.
Or can add 1 tbsp cornflour (pre mixed with a bit of water) & stir thru soup. Also, can add another can of evap. milk too, depending on quantity made and personal taste

Re:liquid phase- post op (the straw diet ... Reply to this message
runny custard, any of the runny type desserts, remeber to have as much protein as you can homemade soups with chicken blitz it well and thin it down, tomatoe soup with baked beans do the same its lovely some like it with cheese melted into it too
egg flips, protein drinks anything nutricious that you can put into the blender and thin down a bit
