Hi Jim,
Im a June bandit too and bought a pill cutter for a couple of dollars at the chemist. It cuts your medication very neatly into two or four and then they go down easily without having to be totally crushed (at least they have for me and its worth a try) I used to swallow seven tablets in one gulp but have been taking the halves one at a time and making sure I drink a full glass of water to crush them. |

It is now day 2 after my surgery and have very little pain. drinking fluids ok but my tablets taste horrible has anybody got any suggestions how to improve the taste of crushed meds. I had Dr John Copp in Brisbane and I have found him to be fantastic real down to earth and an ideal Dr for a mans man, no beating around the bush and tells it like it really is.

Immediately post op you wont be able to have much for a few hours, and you must sip slowly!!! perhaps 50mls at a time for a while. (everyones experience is different but this is pretty much what you can have)
anything you have must be thin enough to fit up a straw, and have NO LUMPS. if you need to water things down try doing it with milk which helps with PROTEIN .
liquid vitamins are important (IRON is essential)
immediately post op -
ice chips or water
next day- (after baruim swallow if that is your surgeons thing)
clear broth
apple juice
peppermint tea (good for the wind)
jelly?
day 2 you should be able to start milk drinks -
sustagen, up n go, tea or coffee, milo, etc
soup but still thin
drinking yoghurt
vegie juice
prune or pear juice if you are having issues moving your bowels.
Low fat frozen yoghurt in little 100gram tubs
ww custard with extra milk to be thin enough(yummm)
ww mousse
smoothies
snack pack
ice cream
Put anything you're not sure of through a sieve.
by day 4 or 5 you possibly could drink 250ml in about half an hour to an hour.
by then end of your 2 or 3 weeks of liquid you can start thickening up your things in preparation for mushy stage.
There are some fantastic "liquid" recipes in this thread, just look back through the pages
hope this is helpful! |

Hi Ms Healthy, there are a few different banding tecniques and I have heard of people having two, three, four and five incisions. On the fluids stage best to take it slowly and see how you go day by day. When you start getting hungry, try to increase the content of your liquids with runny custard, pureed vegie soups, up and go and see if you find that more satisfying. See Pyretta's post earlier for a comprehensive list of suggestions on the fluids only diet.
Good luck,
Cath |

Hi All
I was banded a few days ago and had severe pain when breathing so stayed in hospital for a few nights. This may have had something to do with my surgeon making only 2 incisions rather than the standard 5. Has anyone else heard of this technique? As far as I know, it's pretty new.
I was on clear fluids for the first few days but am now on free liquds. I have to say, i'm pretty hungry and the liquids aren't doing much for me. My surgeon said the I could go onto Mushies after a week if I wanted to but my dietician say 2 weeks - bit confused. What's the general concencus out there?
Thanks in advance. |

it's not that bad, and it only lasts a few days.
im not sure what fybromayalgia wil do to it, but check in with your surgeon.
i think being on opti was harder than the post op pain.
and theres heaps of meds to take, tea and heat bags o help with the pain, and if yr like me, you ll be tired and the sleep will take up most of the time while yr getting better

4mls in band and down 11kg. 14 more kg and I can go sky diving yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
I can't eat any red meat apart from mince as it won't go through hole. Is this a permanent thing? I love steak and red meat and always have :(
Any other weight loss updates? I changed surgeons at last and now see Chris Couch at my work hospital and he is great. I wish I had seen him 1st off but I see it would have cost me up to $1000 more. |

Geez Kerrie,
You are the only one I have heard that for. I must admit I didn't do much of the mousse or ice cream, all i wanted was savoury flavours. I drank litres of beef steak with veggies, mixed with baked beans and beef stock. Sound bad but was quite nice warmed and full of protein and fibre.

| isn't it funny pyretta. I was not allowed jelly, yoghurt apart from drinking, custard, snackpacks, mousee etc or icecream. It had to be a liquid. |
